Does anyone know if its a straight swap (apart from the wiring) from the 4AC to the 4AGE using the 4AC gearbox?? If not can you use the 4AGE head, internals etc. on the 4AC block? Thanks

An engine change is always full of tricks, but the 4AC to 4AGE swap can be one of the simplest, depending which 4ag you start with. I reccommend visiting Bill Sherwoods site, as he has heaps of info on this.

NO, you cannot swap the 4AG head onto a 4AC block.

4A-C block is not at strong as a 7rib 4AGE block. Don't be cheap just go buy a proper 4AGE

Medicine_Man has a quick information guide on the swap on the rollaclub.com wiki

You will find you have problems lining up the timing belt and water pump etc etc..

I also beg to differ: the 4ag head can bolt onto the 4ac bottom, but theres a smaller power gain.

While we are on this subject, are the engine mounts for the 4ac the same as the 16v 4age?

Cheers

The only reason I was wondering about using the 4AC block was to keep it simple and if the engine mounts & gearbox were different for the 2 blocks. Im planning to buy a 4AGE, or a wrecked corolla and put that motor in.
From what ive read it looks like I can just pull the 4AC out, leave the gearbox and drop the 4AGE in ya?

Correct.... but make sure u know whats happening with the loom. As u will be using a FWD loom.... parts of it will need to be extended for the RWD setup.

And make sure u know which lines from the fuel tank do what and go where with the fuel rail on the engine. (dont want to try pump fuel in backwards)
U'll also need to install a external fuel pump. A VL pump will do. Once again, make sure u know which fuel line from the fuel tank is the 1 that u add the pump to.

Its an esy swap if you plan EVERYTHING before u start.

Thanks for that. Is there any type of heavy duty ones on the market or just your standard ones from Kelpro, Mackay etc.

Cheers

Hey dude, I reckon if you want to put a 4AGE head onto a 4AC is going to be 3 times as hard as putting a 4AG staight into your car. it will be less time consuming and less work.

As for engine mounts. Cusco make some too. They are just identical to the TRD ones, and they are a little bit lower than the orginal engine mounts you can get from Toyota.

If you need some for your car, I am pretty sure I can still get some for you. I have just put some new one in my car... and also gearbox mount as well.
