hey,
i sourced out a t series rear end from a wreckers for $250 and im picking it up tommorow. so i have got a couple of questions

firstly how can i tell that its realy a T series just buy looking at it? (i have a bad habbit of getting conned)

whats involved with swapping them over?

i heard something about using one half of the existing tail shaft and the other half of the t series tail shaft! whats the story with that?

and also, sway bars, what do i do if i get an early one with out the sway bars?

thanks

1: A T series axle should hav 10 bolts holding the center in ( S series has 8 bolts)

2: To swap them over, its basically take out the s eries and bolt in the T series. (conditiond apply, view below)

3: You should use the t-18 rear half of the tail shaft and leave the stock 86 first half. This is so it fits correctly. Though i have heard u can use the whole stock 86 tail shaft, but it just makes things harder.

4: If u dont get sway bars u will hav to grind the original sway bars off your "S" series axle and hav someone who can weld, weld thom on to ur t series.

first off why are you swapping diffs?
is it so you can fit an LSD?
also is the T-series what came in JDM AE86??

It would be a T-series out of a T18, which although had the same basic structure and same size centrepeice, didnt come stock with an LSD and had drums instead of discs. A JDM T-series would usually set you back around $800-$1200 depending on how worn the LSD and discs are...

if your using a t-series jdm rear end or discs everyone overlooks the master cylinder, and it needs a proportioning valve

Also the T-series diffs have a fairly low ratio (either 3.7 or 3.9) so while you're there you may want to swap the ring gear for a 4.1 from a TA22 or RA40 celica.

This would be referred to as a dual circuit master cylinder http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

JDM standard equipment. I believe that people are starting to modify these from other cars to fit T series swap candiates now.

Not all t-18's hav 3.7 or 3.9...... if ur lucky enough to get a later model t-18 with swaybar mounts u might be lucky enough to get a 4.1 center in it. (Like i did http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif )
