Sorry

Ok, try and keep up...
A Trueno is the AE86 with pop up lights only sold in Japan/USA/New Zealand and some other damn lucky countries. The Sprinter is the first name of the Trueno in Japan/USA/New Zealand (ie- Toyota Sprinter Trueno) but what the AE86's were called here in Australia (ie Toyota Corolla Sprinter). AE86 refers to the model and engine code and will appear in your (i'm assuming) VIN number. The T series diff is what the Japan/USA/New Zealand came standard with, usually featuring disc brakes, 10 bolt diff housing and an option for a LSD. These are also available in the Aussie spec T18 and the GT model Japan/USA/New Zealand delivered AE86's. The S series is a local delivery, and unofficially stands for SHIT
Just Jap in Sydney are probably your best bet for finding a Trueno, be prepared to pay a bit, and to wait a while too.

Did I loose you?

maybe the shape or the cartoon is appealing to him?
But I am sure you didn't know everything about your sprinter when you first bought it right?
He has to start somewhere...

There for figuring out whats wrong, fixing, repairing, upgrading, fixing and repairing. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

But if you like doing all that, there the most fun cars. You'll probly learn alot from it (and about cars in general) as well if you do things urself.

Goodluck! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

I like 'em coz of the shape and style of 'em, the look mean and nasty, sorta the look i like? thats it. i like to have fun and i do like figuring out what the hells wrong, fixing, repairing, upgrading, hopefully no crashing though, then going over the whole process again.

you see I work in a hobby shop and i have to do the whole process over and over and over (i could do this all day if u want but im a wee bit lazy) again, it's something I enjoy... in a wierd sorta way... sorta my hobby. older cars look meaner, IMO go harder, and piss on the new cars. they each have their own kinda look, and style, and no doubt feel, (but im yet to get to the feel http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif) and i think the style of the Trueno's kinda suits my personality... but thats just my opinion.

just tryin to let u guys know where im comin from.

Hey thats cool dude, people buy cars for different reasons. i had never even heard of a sprinter when i bought mine, it was all i could afford at the time. Theyre a great car to learn in. i was just surprised that you were so keen on getting one but you dont know much about them. youll be in for some surprises im sure.

you work in a hobby shop? sweet as.

I'll see if I can break it down for your first question:
Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno
Toyota = Make
AE86 = Chassis Type
Sprinter Trueno = Model

In Australia these cars were called "Corolla Sprinter", and in japan they were called "Corolla Levin" for the non pop up models, and "Sprinter Trueno" for the pop up models. In australia we never got the pop up models, so if you want a Trueno, you have to import one. For some reason guys that import em seem to want a couple of grand extra for them than they actually cost to import. Working for a japanese importer, I can tell you that you'll save a bundle if you imported than bought one that someone's already brought in.

The spec of the car varies in japan, you get the bottom of the barrel AE86, which was the exact same as the aussie ones with a 4AGE (4cyl, 1.6L, DOHC, electronically injected) engine. The aussie delivered ones had most noticeably only 4AC (4cyl, 1.6L, SOHC, carburettor) engine and an S series diff (pretty weak, hard to get aftermarket stuff for). Japs also got an AE85, which was even worse than the aussie delivered ones.

The T Series diff came in celicas n supras n stuff, so its common for guys over here to swap em over and make their cars "Jap Spec".
