Tell that to all the monkeys that go around sayin "Haaaaacheeeeeeeeee rokoooooo" like they were sneezing in slow motion. It sounds more like "hashrok".

In fact, tell that to all the japanese who can't say truck any differently from track, can't pronounce their V's and B's n L's n R's. In fact how many times have you heard people say "pyro-tension rods" when in fact its pivot-tension rod?

Build a bridge and get over it, clearly for those whose primary language isn't the same as a word will have trouble pronouncing it properly.

Trueno is in fact spanish, its the spanish word for Thunder. Levin, surprise surprise, is a synonym for Lightning. Troo-en-noh (o pronounced like in doctor) is actually the correct pronounciation, not True-no, like some japanese man that can't speak spanish to save his life will have you believe.

i call my car a hachi all the time... if its just in gereal conversation theres no need to talk about my 'hachi-roku' as im sure everyone knows what im talking about when i say hachi...

i actually like all the different ways people talk about the sprinters... it can be amusing sometimes.... same as people say 'nis-sun' and 'toyoDa' and 'maz-duh'...

me and my mates call my car "Hachi" all the time, it doesnt bother me.

My diff whines like a bitch copping it from behind - ive been told by a reliable source that its nothing to be worried about. i have no idea if new bearings will fix it, actually, i think it has somthing to do with the main diff gear but dont quote me...

crazy86
6th August 2005, 09:56 PM
As Hachi Roku is a "nick name" for the AE86, Im sure it would be perfectly accetable to abbreviate it to Hachi, as the japanese are pretty keen on abbreviating everything.

funkymonkey
6th August 2005, 10:16 PM
you only need to abbreviate Hachi Roku to Hachi if you slurr it. Hachi Roku is said like "Hashrok" as the japanese abbreviate it, and is pretty quick to say as it only has two syllables.

In any case, argueing semantics is like winning a race at the special olympics...

I can't believe there are two pages of bitching about the proper pronunciation of the name of car. Build a bridge guys. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wacko.gif

I can't stand it when people call me "Lindy" instead of "Indi" but you don't see me whinging about it or threatening to throw batteries at them..... I just beat the crap out of them without warning http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Haha, doesn't matter now. Hoping for the weekend my 4A-GE conversion will be done, so no 4A-C drift for me http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

Also, I always call the car a "Sprinter", well aus-spec ones that is. A Trueno is a "Tree-no" and genuine Levin "Levin" (hell there's only one way of pronouncing it).

tru-eno is how they say it on option dvd's and anything else japenese, personaly i think this is the most useless thread every! as long as you drive a sprinter i could give a f#$% what you called it, unless it was negative then there would be blood... let that be a warning!

Trueno (true-no), Levin (la-Vin) not like some others that may say eleven without the e.

Japanese is funny sometimes, like why they call a gearbox a mission.

Just dont make no sense.

Anyways.

Cheers

I believe they call a gearbox, mission is because it's short for transmission. If you spoke Japanese you'd understand why they call it a mission.

RobertoX
18th August 2005, 10:50 AM
yes - mission/transmission is correct

hahaha, prolly cos its a mission for little jap arms to lift a gtr box in! hahaha

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif ahaha

just cos they say "lA-vin" (pronounced lovin' http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif ) doesnt mean they've pronounced it right, its not a japanese word after all http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif .

i call them sprinters so what am i worried about http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/huh.gif .

funkymonkey
19th August 2005, 07:56 AM
they actually pronounce it RA-BIN, but I don't see every Aussie that suckles on the Japanese car culture teat calling it that... so why pronounce Trueno how the Japanese do, rather than the Spanish, which is the word's correct language of origin?
