Ok... just a warning to anyone who uses the sprinter jacks that came factory in AE86's......

Was using mine yesterday... (definately chock your car up if u wanna get underneath ect... or use a decent jack - I coulda been reamed)

anywayz.... was using it to remove a rim ect.... when I went to lower it.. it just let go and my car landed back on earth in the blink of an eye... scared the shit outa me for a moment....

The dodgy fuckah stripped the thread of the bolt that raises/lowers it... and just slid and failed....

So yeh.... dont trust those jacks..... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

glad to hear you are ok mate. Another hachi would of taken another life http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif, The first thing I did with mine was throw it away and replaced it with a small super shit trolley jack(22bucks or something). Definately always important to use car stands when doing anything other than changing a tyre, rule of thumb. Sissor jacks are a pain in the ass.

Mines already broke... usually when I change the tyres I have my legs under the car (stupid I know). I didn't on this occasion and the jack failed... car droped like a rock

chuck those crappy scissor jacks away.

As soon as I saw mine I thought it looked dodgy so I bought a stand and trolley jack set. I used to keep the trolley jack in the car all the time but its hard to secure it properly so I still have the dodgy one for emergencies but I take the trolley jack anytime I think I might need it.

Just a tip, throw your tyres under the chassi after you take them off, this way if the car falls down, the tyre will take the weight and give enough room to remove yourself if such an incident should arise..

I bought a jack of a 92 camry, bigger and easier to jack the car up. Fits straight in where the old jack was

never work on your car when it is supported by a jack
always use axle stands even if your just changing tyres
i have seen cars fall off jacks all too often

Yeah, that happened to me with my old car (lancer) but I was actually using a VT Commodore one.
Ever since than I have always been doubled carefully when doing stuff but I can actually use ramps with the Sprinter whereas I couldn't with the Lancer (King Spring Super Lows)

Cheers

My stock jack I used to change a wheel once, jacked up, changed wheel... wouldn't come back down - stripped thread...

had to drive it off.

Don't use them! especially not if you are getting under car.

sometimes you cant even trust the ones you buy... we were down at supercheap once and they had a big product recall sign on their door saying 'x' jacks, i think they might have been trolley jacks, a range of them they had sold were all faulty and you bring them back and exchange them.. makes you feel safe 0_o
i only use trolley jacks but often the cars are either too low or the jacks are too big and cant fit under the car so you use the little scissor ones to start jacking it up till the trolley jack fits underneath.. and also leave it there as an extra support in case either of them fail the other one is there.. i never feel safe underneath a car thats jacked up though...

I "try" to be pretty careful if im ever putting my arms legs head or whole BODY! under a car, i use a good quality jack like $150 one and always use car stands and throwt the wheels ive taken off under each side too for a backup. Because not only to jacks fail but crappy supercheap stands aint exactly built fantastic either!

You should try a little JDM trick (well i first saw it a few years bak in a JDM mag)..

- Get 2 little piece of 3 inch thick wood, about 25 by 25cm wide.
- Place each piece right up against the front of the front wheels (assuming u wanna jack up the front of the car.)
- Roll or drive the car onto the pieces of wood slowly and stop the car when the tires are sitting in the center of both the pieces of wood.
- Turn off the car, pull up the handbrake AND put it in gear. (I have a drift button and if the car is shaken or knocked it may cause the handbrake to drop. Thats why i put the car in gear).
- Your car should now have raised by 3 inches at the front. Thereby giving you more room to slide your QUALITY jack under.

lucky you wernt under the car. well i dont think i wil ever be able to use one, my sprinter doesnt have a spare tyre so im not gonna have to worry about it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif and hence no tyre means i dont need one of those jacks anyway http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif
