its not a letterbox grille but it is thermo controlled (well it would be if it was plugged in) right now its in the open mode, you can close it so that its just flat plastic with LEVIN written on it

7th January 2006, 02:39 PM

20th January 2006, 12:22 PM
yeah tell us how they go
ive ordered some

20th January 2006, 06:18 PM
just like any braces they do make a difference in the behaviour of the car in corners. you will notice the difference more in faster or longer corners i think. however, i believe each car will react differently to the addition of these braces. whether the driver notices or not will be different also.

Ken (ae86hachiroku) has these fitted to his car, he felt a huge difference. ask him if you really want a run down of the effect these braces have.

22nd January 2006, 10:30 PM
I had to do a forced modification today. while trying to fix a coolant leak in the pipes the metal top pipe on the radiator broke into pieces inducing many a profanity. luckily the pieces of metal did not float down with the coolant into the engine, so that was a bit of a save http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

now that i couldnt use my radiator i had a look around and found a radiator from a CA18DET. my brothers car is in the middle of a build up so his old radiator was sitting around doing nothing.

so now i have a bigger radiator.....i suppose its worth it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

22nd January 2006, 10:31 PM
there was a fair bit of work involved, but it finally came together

23rd January 2006, 12:05 AM
nice man
i got a ca radiator in mine too
fits well albeit a bit tall
but it clears everything and i didnt have to drill any holes on the car

23rd January 2006, 12:10 AM
yeh thanks ian, im having a look at how you did the mounts. i might copy that sometime in the future. but today i was only in the mood to get the car running again http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

now i need sleep http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

23rd January 2006, 12:42 AM
mounts are piss easy to make
i just cut up some alloy sheet and drilled holes

4th March 2006, 02:37 AM

What is with 'Midori' on the title? Midori is the drink of gheys.

People who use this word in SA, especially with any relation to drift get stabbed lol.

9th March 2006, 02:08 PM
its green...its green

9th March 2006, 05:19 PM
midori is japanese for green....nickname of the car as it was the only known green ae86 in perth for a while

9th March 2006, 06:41 PM
Sweet car dude!!
How did you tint the indicators?? And did you take off the head to paint it??
I reckon it's the little touches that make the car!!!!!

10th March 2006, 01:25 AM
you can get tinting spray from places like repco, supercheap, etc. i got mine from auto 1. dunno if you have that over east. its made for spraying on lights http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif its another one of those "for offroad use only" things. just dont do it too dark http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

i only painted the cam covers so i just took them off, not the head. really simple job which makes a big difference i think http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

10th March 2006, 02:29 AM
how do you manage to paint the head without painting in the writing part, were its carved in

10th March 2006, 02:46 AM
i painted the covers along with the writing and just filed the paint off the letters http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

11th March 2006, 05:33 AM
Pfft, you mean I filed off the letters http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

11th March 2006, 06:06 PM
destroyed the front lip last night at the barbagallo drift practice.

ive stitched it back together with cable ties http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif will show pics soon

11th March 2006, 07:12 PM

22nd March 2006, 07:16 PM

looks like the car is gonna be black as thats the cheapest colour paint i could find that isnt white http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

gimme a few days http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

25th March 2006, 03:00 AM
car is black now...mostly

only first coat so its not very shiny but it doesnt really matter anyway as ill be hitting the track again soon.

looks like simon's old old 86 at the moment....same colour/finish

ive taken some progress pics but a black car at night is kinda hard to see http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif and yes its not finished so there is still some primer showing under the rear bumper and in the hatch/doors so gimme a break http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

heres a preview:

25th March 2006, 03:01 AM
hopefully i will have it complete by the end of the weekend, so expect an update then http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

http://50mb.net/~hiroko/drift2/ae86l-g3.GIF hehe....maybe

26th March 2006, 11:57 PM
finished painting the car today........

26th March 2006, 11:58 PM
also got this WICKED mod http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

apparently my suspension is too stiff which supposedly means that i will have problems cornering http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

plus oil on my sump and exhaust too loud

27th March 2006, 12:19 AM
Damn dude, that's unlucky http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

Just asfter all the hard work we done painting it and you go out and get a canary http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

27th March 2006, 12:59 AM
so a home pant job? not a spary can job im guessing?

27th March 2006, 01:07 AM
yeh it was a home job. but with a compressor and spray gun

27th March 2006, 01:10 AM
how much in total did it cost ya? and have u done it b4, or just practised on som spare metal or not at all http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

27th March 2006, 01:15 AM
umm less than $200 at a guess. black paint is cheap. white is cheaper. but yeah the cost that will kill you with a homejob is the cost of the paint itself.

i was quoted $200+ for 4 litres of silver....hence the black http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

ive sort of done it before. i leant how to do it while painting my bonnet. but its pretty easy.

27th March 2006, 01:18 AM
so how many litres 10L max?

27th March 2006, 01:21 AM
4 litres should do the trick. remember you have to primer it first too. about 6 decent sized spray cans should cover that department http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

8th April 2006, 09:08 PM
tyre let go on the pit straight at barbagallo raceway and sent me into the conrete wall.

9th April 2006, 08:52 PM

9th April 2006, 09:21 PM
engine looks ok, find out when it gets put into the next car.

chassis might be able to get fixed but not for a long time. it may come back in the future...not sure yet.

but for now im looking for an ae71 or ke70 to transfer everything into.

9th April 2006, 10:32 PM
yeah looks like you were going at a reasonable pace

10th April 2006, 12:34 AM
sh!t! holy sh!t ive been watching the progress of ur build and even im dissapointed, i cant even imagine how ur feelin'

15th April 2006, 09:43 PM

17th April 2006, 05:03 PM
the engine and gearbox has been ripped out of this car and will be going into an ae71 that i hope to pick up today.

so keep an eye out for my new project and a new thread http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

27th April 2006, 02:40 PM
holy shit were you driving w/ the kouki headlights?

27th April 2006, 04:07 PM
yes but the only thing that was damaged was the passenger side headlight.

the foglights, parkers and driver's side headlight survived.

i didnt have the letterbox grille on at the time either

24th June 2006, 02:51 AM
Wow sorry to see....

I just looked from page one to page seven of ur buildup for the 2nd time and im like what the hell and i seen it was your car......good luck with the future project.

29th May 2007, 01:31 AM

4th November 2007, 01:15 AM
is it coming back? if not ill buy it :P

20th November 2007, 12:20 AM
most of the parts from the car went into the ae71, the shell was bought by Matt-AE86. not sure what he will be doing with it.
