hey, just thought i'd introduce myself as a future splinta owner. My names matt and i currently drive a holden nova (front wheel drive http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif )

I recently drove an ae86 (4age) and have been in love ever since, so i'm currently tryin to sell my holden nova to buy a splinta.

Any recommendations for buying my new car? all advice will be greatly appreciated..this just seemed the right place to ask http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hi matt, welcome to hachi-rusto's anonymous... i mean... ae86drivingclub

tips:
buy from an old person, convince them the car not worth much.
if you find a bargain (under $1000), put a deposit on it asap before someone else offers the seller more
don't let the rust put you off... 99.99% of them have rust somewhere, even if the seller's patched up the exterior rust

umm look around in the WTB sections of relevant forums and see what spare parts are being asked for, chances are these are parts that fail commonly and are hard to source, check if these parts are working on the car you buy.

get involved with the forum, and maybe even get an AE86 owner to come with you and help you buy the car.

It will take a while to find one, but their out there. Mechanical issues can be sorted realatively cheaply, and their fairly strong in stock form anyway. The biggest worry is rust, as bad rust in structural areas will need to be professionally repaired ($$$) if you want it to last more than a couple of years, but as stated above, dont let it scare you off, cos most of them have some, just steer clear of rust in areas like Pillars, Hinge areas (door and hatch) and rust holes you can stick your thumb through.

I live in southside brissie, and also while i'm here, how much for a 4age (16v) conversion am i lookin at, i was gona do my nova and i fuigured it'd be a bit more cheaper for a sprinter as it would be a much easier job?
cheers, matt
