Just about to do a 4AGZE conversion into my sprinter was wondering about the fuel system setup.
What are some simple but effective systems that can be used when doing the conversion?
Is a surge tank and two pump system the only reliable way to go?
Any information along these lines would be great even info on how you did it etc?

Thanks

The 2 ways i've been shown to do this is this-

Use a Facett style pump to fill a surge tank (doesn't have to be bigger than 1000cc) then in inline to the engine. Use somthing that pushes out more than 40psi, most people use VL pumps, but I've had reliability issues with them. I use a Bosch 040 which is over kill, but never had problems with it.

The other is to modify the plate where the feul pick up is and put an intank pump in there, something like a Camry/Supra/Cressida anything bigger than 1.6 engine.

As far as fuel lines go, I still use the carbi ones, the 2 bigger ones for feed and return and the smaller one for the charcol canister

Does the engine lean out or anything?, will the carby lines flow enough for a boosted 4agze

Honestly dont know, ive never had any problems with it leaning out on my NA 16v/20v but as far as the ZE... how much fuel pressue does it require?

Some of the ZE guys reccomend upgrading the lines, but others say a surge will be all you need. Guess you will have to see what works. If your not chasing huge HP, then you will possibly get away with the stock lines, so why waste your money.

I would hazard a guess and say its exactly the same pressure as a NA 4AGE (maybe only a few PSI more to compensate for the blower pressure)
Its all about the flow rate of the smaller lines...

Cheers for the info will help heaps.

Main thing is trying to save unneeded spending of cash that can go else where, yet dont want to go to cheap and nasty either.

Was leaning to a surge tank as my mate makes them out of fire extinguishers (nice cheap and strong), so might try this connected to the carbie lines and see what happens.

Thanks

i've run a brass 3'8in line next to my standered lines, thats the feed line, the old feed line is now the return. for 8m of brass 3'8in line it cost me 14dollars. VL pump and a 600cc surge tank, total cost and install, less than 500, not bad seeing i'll never have to replace for bigger items, i thought it was worth it,.

I remember reading that 200kw can be made on standard lines.

yep those stock fuel lines will NOT supply enough fuel for gze. I cursed for days trying to find the problem. I just ran a rubber hose to the fuel rail no worries. I have a small supply pump to the surge tank dunno what it is and a vl fuel pump to the fuel rail never missed a beat.

i would upgrade to 8mm fuel feed line for a ze or any efi conversion. i did same as sprinter boy new 8mm feed next to my original adm lines, your adm 6mm feed hose becomes your return and the tank vent hose can stay the same.

in my 20v sprinter i used a vl external pump only!! not good!! always ran dry at 1/3 tank. in my 20v ke70 i modified the top plate of the tank that lifts out to take a v6 commodore pump which flows fine, is heaps quieter.

just remember to fil up at 1/8th of a tank so your pump doesn't pick up shit, some people say 1/4 for efi but i have had no dramas at 1/8th.

Is it hard to up size the feed line?

I want to run a 8mm feed line, but i'm a bit nervous about pulling out my fuel tank and trying to change the line. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/5/4/536981.jpg

Any tips or hints? http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

you have to modify the top plate of your tank that has the 2 steel fuel lines on it. i drilled a hole and silversoldered a 8mm fitting on to it. then just ran an 8mm rubber fuel hose to the motor. i just cable tied the hose to the exsisting fuel lines every 10cm there is a cable tie. just check them every time you get under the car!!

ahhh!!! ^^^^^^ at the above...thats not legal in QLD..but who cares..not to mention how expensive EFi fuel hose is to run 5-6M of it (going in all the nooks and crannys etc etc..i reackon your best bet you be to get a length of 8mm steel line..and a pipe bender..make it as you go..i helped my mate do his steel fuel and nos lines in his MK2 escort..it's not really that hard..and it would be 100% legal

I got a problem on my external fuel pump and fuel filter if anyone can help me,
when I was using the pump straight from the tank it works fine, only making noise when fuel level is low, but then after I put a fuel filter between the fuel pump and the tank, it starts making some noise, when i look at the filter, it was not full and I reckon the noise is because the filter is not full of petrol and the pump sucking air and make weired sound, anyone can help to solve this prob thx a lot

I cut and shut a standard tank so I could run an 040 Bosch pump in it. I used a Pintara efi tank top plate that I got from a wreck for $40. There is a procedure on toymods, look for a welding fuel tanks thread. There is a swirl pot inside, all up cost was $50 as the piece of 4" exhaust pipe welded in the tank was $10. There are 3 holes in the bottom of the swirl pot, 2 either side, 1 facing forward, 10mm diameter. I brazed the breather line to the top of the pintara top plate, the pintara has 8mm outlet/return pipes. Having internal pump and swirl pot reduces the need for 2 pumps and all the rooting around mounting an external pot, not to mention it's neater and the cops will never pick it. 040 pump will support 650bhp and they're about $300 new ATM.
Cheers
