I have always been interested in sprinters but really couldnt find one when it came time to get my licence. Anyway, since i already have a day car ive been keeping an eye out for a AE corolla which are signifiacntly cheaper than sprinters. This is the one i have bought

Engine:
a wicked stock 4ac engine

Suspension:
Chopped falcon springs all round
Sierra rear shocks
Ra60 front shocks with gt4 short strokes
sigma control arms

inside:
good old australian earl 80's styling - green dash and blue panels
momo steering wheel
sprinter drivers seat

Feet:
some random 14" rims with new tires
currently has almost balled tires on the rear that used to be on my prelude

Future mods:
4age engine of some sort
maybe coilover and such... but depends on how much i want to spend on an old car

at the moment its just a pig that i will be taking to the track every QR day and sometimes out for some urban drives http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

hopefully it will become quite the drift car

mumblezzz

Thats Chris' old car right? The suspension is the old setup out of the flat black KE70 I drove at drift nats. RA60 front struts with celica GT4 short strokes and chopped falcon springs with sigma control arms. The rear is like you said sierra shocks with falcon springs.

next best thing to a spritner. I would have bought one for myself.
ask Beau Yates for the ae86 suspension($500).
lock you diff and you can start drifting.
my sprinter drift with locker diff. well only two round.
i killed it after doing burn out on the spot.http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

it should be fun

v-tec
26th September 2005, 05:33 PM
Pretty decent, theyre pretty stiff shocks. I havent driven the car too much, as its unregister atm http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/angry.gif

Hey...

i had my car up on the jack this morning trying to see if some of my prelude old rims fitted (for track use...), they didnt.
Anyway, when i had the wheel off. I noticed the way the bottom of the rear springs where sitting:

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b280/no-v-tec/Ae71012.jpg

I know the springs are chopped, but even so, they arnt sitting right are they? Should i try fix that before the drift day (saturday)?

also i found all these and a bosch spark plug under my jack in the boot:

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b280/no-v-tec/Ae71013.jpg

These are suspension bushes arnt they? i think... im not too sure

mumblezzz
28th September 2005, 06:57 PM
Those are actually the old springs out of my AE86. They wont fall out like that, the shocks should keep them captive. Never had a problem in the 2 years and 2 different hachis that I used them in.

v-tec
28th September 2005, 08:27 PM
im a little on the uniformed side of the previous things done to this car, so are you saying that those are the exact springs that where in your sprinter? or are you saying they are the same type springs that are in a sprinter?

hey, also. i got pics of my car next to my mates ke70 this afternoon. he severly needs to get it lowered:

mumblezzz
28th September 2005, 11:45 PM
No those are the exact springs that were in my sprinter. You can see where I sprayed primer on the ends where they were cut. They're actually fairlane king springs i picked up at the wreckers for $30.

v-tec
29th September 2005, 11:39 AM
oh ok, yeah. was wondering what sorta falcon springs they were.

What year falcon was the springs for?

The smaller pair on the left of the pic are for the panhard rod, If you put them in they will reduce "squirm" in the rear as you load the car up in a corner.

The other three are for one of the four arms on your rear suspension. You need four of them for each arm, and there are four arms all together, so all up you need 16 of them. If your car already has had the bushes replaced with poly ones, then i would keep them as spares, otherwise chuck em, as there no use without a complete set.

Took the car for its first drift day today (well first time with me driving - not sure otherwise)

Farrk it was fun. 4AC power sucked ass, but i was seriously doing better than i thought i was gonna. QR is not a great track for the car i spose seeing as all the corners are fast and im really lacking in power.

However, i managed to get a few really top slides... and maybe a bit of wheelspin through the corners. If anyone was up there and got pics of my car, can you send them to me at illegal_address@hotmail.com

thanks

i took the rear seats out this arvo, i plan to keep them out eventually but i will probly put em back in before i register the car...

i love this car, its so fun just to play around with things and take them apart without worrying of stuffing something up. My lude would be the exact opposite of that http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/ph34r.gif

i'm pretty sure if you have the seats in it when you register it and then take it out and they catch you, you'll get raped for having a registered 5 seater with 2 seats...

i think... well i'm about 90% sure http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

v-tec

i beleive you have to get it mod plated or something to say its a two seater.

Thats what im gonna do tho... put the seats back in register it... rip em out, flog em off and get it plated.

v-tec
9th October 2005, 07:10 PM

plus took a few things off and cleaned up in general. Here's the before and after:

after:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/78568.jpg

its really not much, but i think its looks better not having that whole black bit at the back

hey, btw, keep a look out for me on the 29th of october at QR. Im hoping to get up there again, and will hopefully be sporting a locked diff http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

i don't think they'll care if you have mod plates in a two seater thats registered as a five seater, they'll give you a fine anyway... if you're going to have a two seater, you have to register it as a two seater... or just pray you don't get caught http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

its like if you managed to have a sprinter registered as a 5 seater and got caught, you'll probable get in trouble... or a bike registered as a one seater but having a seat for a passanger...

v-tec
10th October 2005, 05:57 PM
you sure about this? i was pretty much under the impression that you cant register two seaters and 4 seaters?

isnt it just two doors four doors and such...?

just a quick question to the people who knew of this car before i bought it...

the suspension in it, does it have the ra60 shocks, gt4 short strokes, sierra shocks, falcon springs and the sigma control arms?

or does it just have the sierra shocks and the springs?

im just not too sure... the wording that some people have used is somewhat misunderstanding so im not sure if thats what was in the black AE71 and is now in mine or if it was just in the black one and not mine

thanks

i think you'll find it has ra60 shocks, gt4 short strokes, sierra shocks, falcon springs and the sigma control arms in the front and sierra shocks and the springs in the rear.

nah, but the 4ac isnt too fun. it seems to be running really lean. the revs seem to die after bout 4500rpm... which seems slightly disadvantaged to jasons old 4ac which apparently revd hard till 7k http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/5/4/536981.jpg

v-tec
14th March 2006, 01:58 PM
nah cass, its not running yet ay

i really, really desperately need to sell my prelude to get this done.
it hasnt exactly been a real smooth ride getting all this done.

alot of things that i had to buy and such, i under estimated prices of... which probly cost me about $500-$1000 more than needed...

i also got a $300 dollar fine on the 22nd of janurary which im still yet to finish paying off. I also get my licence suspended from that, which starts tmro (YAY!!!)
I have another $300 for rego thats due from my prelude at end of this month (just doing that so its a better deal for whoever buys it, and so i dont have to unrego it b4 i sell it)

and just plain lack of work hence not much income... so its sorta ghey

I need the money to get it wired up by this fella a few drift people know, i am also going to buy one of his ECU's to run those cams cause ill have the money from the prelude when i can afford to get it wired.

I am also waiting to get a fuel pump
After that... i just need small things like a distributor cap, longer throttle cable, and i need to get a hose or something to go from the gearbox slave cylinder to the clutch fluid cause the current one (as im sure happens to alot/all 4age conversions) wont go around the extractors.

thats about it tho ay

those are the front rims, but i got bored this morning and put em on the back... they are +15 i think

Gilly

they seem to fill the guards very well as is bro!! are you sure they aren't wider than 6.5 or the offset is different, i had 15x7 + 15mm and they didn't fill the guards that well!! they look to be a zero offset.

put some pics up with all 4 rims on!!

v-tec
14th April 2006, 11:52 AM
i have Ra60 front discs soo... maybe they push out more.
The only pictures i have of the rims on are these. The rears fill em out nicely, but the fronts obviously need some flairage http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/100015.jpg

Btw, these pics are without the engine in so the front is about an inch or so lower...

i am pretty sure they are around that offset. it isnt listed on the rims, but we measured it up and looks pretty much bout what i sayd.

The car is getting wired up today, but wont be starting becuase auspost decided it would be cool to keep my fuel pump over the 4 day weekend. When that gets here, unless theres something seriously wrong it should have her started.

Gilly
14th April 2006, 07:54 PM
rims look hot as, it must be the RA60 struts that change it. my -7mm 13x7's stuck out the guards that much at the front, so the struts are the only thing that could do it that i can think of

v-tec
14th April 2006, 08:23 PM
yea

The car is now wired up. Got Sam to do it, a fella recommended to me by mumblezz and andy86. The dudes a champ, did it really well...

lol and i conform again, i woulda had no chance in hell of doin that wiring my self hahaha

Car is now mostly waiting on fuel pump and i also need a map sensor as i didnt get one with my loom http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

$45 inc postage i beleive.

... Getting a map sensor wired in tonight and just putting my fuel pump in... thats about it thats needed.

Does anyone know where you can get the braces that go between the plenum (Rwd is different to fwd) and the engine mount.
Also, what is it off? do u actually have to find a Rwd 4age to get one of these braces?
I tryed a toyota wreckers but no luck.

Also, i need a muffler like this week if anyone reads this..

v-tec
20th April 2006, 11:18 PM
ok... well turns out my fuel line that i originally put in now has to be replaced. I used a 10mm that was to be used for a oil cooler, however i decided the fuel line should have priority.
i now found out that i need a 7.5mm line in order to correctly fit the fuel pump

The map sensor is also in thats to sam.
So its just the feeder line that needs to be connected inc, the fuel pump and filter. then i just need to fill the tank up with petty http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

its gonna be cutting close, but ill be getting my exhaust done like the friday before the drift day. And i also need to get a wheel alignment to fix up the steering arms and to get my mk1's cleaned out a bit so i can actually get my wheel nuts in em lol

v-tec
24th April 2006, 07:47 PM
another post by me.... im a genuine forum ho huh... lol

all that is left now is to put in a fuel hose that im getting later tonight and the fuel filter.

Then just exhaust, clutch bleed and to adjust my steering arms... as the rack was replaced... im anyone has any spare knowledge on doing this, can u give me a heads ups as im not too knowledgable on it

oh and, put my rims on today... curtosy of dan from pro force engineering to clean em out for me

just measure (tape measure) from the same groove in the tyre from in front and back, once you get it even youre good.

they show this method in drift battle. its one of the only things they get correct.

get a helper.

you should be able to get it within 4mm like this.

Is this where you are getting you tech knowledge from ? drift battle http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

This same groove in the tyre at the lowest point really isn't a great way to do the alignment

If you can do the alignment at a higher point due to the design of the any hub strut the center is the perfect place for alignment .

But due to the ride height of that car it's not going to be posable

But since it a drift car do it the drift way most people do it at the track

Get four cans place them at the front and rear of the tyre at the side
Place two bits of alloy , wood anything flat across these against the tyre
Then from the inner points of that you can get a fat better measurement than the tyre , especially if you have been drifting on the tyres before .

The raised height gets you closer to the hub center where the camber and caster measurement at the bottom or top of the tyres is far less .

Or you can string line it if you can be bothered before going to get a correct alignment

grant
i am studying today for midsemesters that have snuck up on me!
i have no credit to reply...

so heres what you do.
1.take out the distributor.
2.take out number one spark plug
3. get a socket and ratchet to go over the big bolt that holds on the harmonic balancer
4. get a long flat blade screw driver and stick it in the spark plug hole.
5. Now, with one hand, hold the screw driver, and with the other hand, crank the engine over by hand. You will feel the piston either going down or coming up. Basically you are looking for the point where the piston is at the top of its range of motion. you must make sure that it is coming up on the compression stroke so whilst the piston is on its way up, stick your finger in the spark plug hole and feel the pressure build.
6. once you have established top dead centre, take the cap off the dizzy. Look for the electrode that corresponds with number one cylinder. Insert the dizzy with the rotor button (you'll know what it is when you see it) as close to that number one electrode as possible.
7. refit dizzy cap
8. refit spark plug and leads
9. For gods sake DONT FORGET TO REMOVE YOUR RATCHET ON THE HARMONIC BALANCER!

cheers all haha... track im not too sure when ill next hit it up.
was pretty sure on this friday drift night. but highly doubtful due to lacking of money. so hopeing for the next one... 15th or something i think. But depends if ive got it running right and again if i have money as i have:

i have to pay rego this week

have to get it to ultra tune or something to get a proper engine tune (as i have no idea why its not goin right)

buy a muffler, as its just wayyyyy too loud... lol heat6 heard me from a half a kilometer back at 3000rpm...

then i have to get it mod plated

then the entry fee etc so.. like 150 and all other expenses etc... but i should be able to make it
if not ill make an effort to at least show my car this time. haha

I need your opinion. I have that pipe there, no muffler. however will be getting one soon. it has a flange under the diff to take out that large pipe:

Should i put the muffler in so it looks like that either way, just the muffler is added into the piping. and whenever i run no muffler at track i just replace it with the original piping that was cut out to put in the muffler?

OR

Should i just get a new bit of exhaust (2 1/4" like what pretty much all the exhaust is, and just have the muffler come out as the last bit? its a cannon muffler if it makes any difference.
only reason i would do it that was is so its more subtle on the street
