im having thoughts about this as well

i will most probably be putting in a engine, right near the end of this year, or early next year. And have been tossing between the 16v, 20v and ZE...
however, mainly looking at the ze and the 16v cause (i think) the 20v cost much more due to its lack of age that the 16v and ZE obviously have. obviously you get the benifits, but im trying not to spend too much of my hard worked cash

As is to my knowledge:

16v: good all round, cheap and effective engine
ZE: way more torque and bits of more power (might be more expensive)
20v: even more expensive, but is much more newer and has all the goodies like quad throttles vvti and that... but apparently is lacking torque somewhere in the rev range

So im mainly looking at getting a 16v and putting the 20v goodies on gradually or the ze and playing round with that

thoughts?

20v is fine i think, dead below 2500 but after that pulls just as hard as 16v untill 6000 then pulls as hard as a 14yr old with a playboy, and who drives below 2500 anyway?

if you put a GZE in you will get a very torquey (sp?) street car..but you will also break lots of shit..eg gear boxes, mostly 2nd and 3rd..crwonwheel and pinions in diffs, twist/snap axles, and you need a meat axe clutch that won't slip!..when i had mine in my car everyone were gob smacked at the acceleration!

One thing you got to remember with the 20v is that it is imported. Parts are still out there but finding them for the 16v and the gze are easier. But what Mattsshop bought up is a good point. You will probably need a stronger gearbox and diff with the gze.

Cheers

Its big money upgradingor rebuilding the T50, go for a w58 gearbox and t-18 diff with LSD. Dont waste your time with the T50 i reckon dere shit dere shit!

I still reckon the GZE is a much better swap than a 20v, and far better value for money in terms of power acceleration.

^^^ how do you know t50's are shit?

have you blown one up??

t50s are light, have very good ratios, and (were) cheap to buy, with aftermarket support, such as straight cut ratios and short shifters available

they are only "shit" because people who have no mechanical sypathy try and put 3 times factory power and torque through them...

Preach it!!!

T50's are a great gearbox... maybe you guys should learn how to heel and toe and or match revs

T-50's are a great box..suprisingly smooth for an old design..best upgrade i can think of if yours is feeling a little notchy and sloppy shifting..get a new rear extension housing bush set including the little bush at the bottom of the shifter..dump the oil and fill with dextron 3 auto fluid! bring up the slop in the shifter a little with the new seat, and bush..and the auto fluid make them a dream to 8000rpm change!

but they wern't made for a supercharged 4age..the massive 'instant' torque they have simple smashes the gears..it will last for a while..but if you like drifting/racing/drags you'll find out pretty quick there not ment to be..just an idea of the kinda clutch i used to stop spinning..2100lbs TRD (built up) pressure plate, 4 puck carbide pads, with a sprung centre..all the grip of the racing clutch, only with out the harsh on off engagement.. see dougie at NPC (coopers plains, south brisbane) if your in the market for a clutch, tell him Matty with the Blue gemmie/ white Levin sent you http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif he'll look after you..he only ownes the place http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Well they are a fine box with a N/A car, but as i know CJ_Sullivan (Corie) quite well, and have seen his driving style. And with the 4AGZE swap he is contimplating blowing the box is inevitable.

No i havent blown one up, but i have sold off 2 of them and have been informed that they have been blown both in 2nd,3rd.

My bro's customer has gone through literally 5 t-50 gearbox on a project Ford Escort with a 4AGTE and the thing is driven gently. Even Corie's T50 is giving in on 3rd http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/ohmy.gif

And at around $200, i beleive its wiser to upgrade to a supra box, because they add up over time.

Anyway meant no offence http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

supra box conversion isnt that cheap, but i understand your reasoning when chasing power, but you are using a nissan box now anyway...so we can let this one rest...yeah, no beef intended mate
