Took my car into a "reputable" workshop here in canberra with engine already in and mounted, with a quote of $5500 to install and tune a haltech, intercooler and fuel lines.
They said it would take two week, it took two and a half months. and the cost blew out to $7100. Got them back to 6g when i asked why things like radiator mount (bent metal) cost $145...
I now have a car that has: A manifold leak
hunting idle
fuel system mounted in engine bay, when it was expressed to be mounted under rear of the car
Fuel pump inlet above surge-tank outlet
Faulty Charger switch
They removed my charcoal cannister without consent, which means: they drilled a hole in the fuel cap to relieve tank pressure, so when you fill it and close it, the tank pressurises and forces petrol out the filler neck
Stalls for no reason
does not have tacho connected (can be done through haltec)
I'm sure there's more but i'm just too pissed off too write anymore http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/angry.gif

Dude!!! Ouch!!! i feel for you http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif Dont they have an obligation to stick by the quote, or at least inform you if its going to go over???

$5500??? To instal and tune a Haltec, it shouldn't cost more than $1000, so $4500 for intercooler and fuel system??? dude!!! i hope that included parts!!!

sh!T thats expensive!

i'm also worried about something like this happening if i take my car somewhere for worked to be done to it. because where i get it service is like you cant have your car until the total payment is done, so what happens if they do this to your car and you cant afford it???

is there anything legal we have to back ourselves up with??

Moral of the story...do of much of things as you can and learn as you go = massive cost savings + knowledge http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

take your car off them and only pay them for what they done they are f***ing with you if so get the cops or Accc on to the and they will fix it real fast i hate people that rip you off

ACCC won't touch it because i don't have the initial quote in writing (lesson learned!) and because it is a "modified vehicle" there is not a technical standard to compare it against.
They said, I have to confront the guy, then if nothing happens, write a nasty letter, then if nothing happens, take it to a small claims court.

The basic run down on costs was $2200 *supply* and tune haltec, $1600 for PWR core and piping, $800 for fuel system (surge, lifter, pump, lines) and $900 for labour and parts.

Up until now I have been doing most of the work myself, just thought I'd leave the electrics, fuel and cooler to someone who know what they're doing would leave me with a better result....

$1000 bucks, depending on the car and engine (i was assuming its an AE86) and which model Haltec. I would recommend Tweakit in Mona Vale (Angus), or my sponsor Bel Garage in Regents Park (Ben), both quoted me about the same.

I'm with you.

You get so much pleasure out of doing it yourself and the knowledge you gain is invaluable.

Plus it's hard to fine an honest and reputable workshop now days.

On a plus side the car hauls ass even with it's bad tune!

ToySprinta

Yeah, i failed to mention that its making 120RWKW in ordinary tune, making 1st pretty much useless...
But thats due to the good components not the tuner http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

Hey man i feel for u ey... a few years ago i had a similar incident. Initial quote was "around $5000" when it was time to pick up the car...i've already paid $8000 with another $3000 to go... i took the car and didnt pay the rest... they said they were gonna sue me... lol... Whats even worse though was that the car didnt last half an hour b4 the radiator hose blew off...then the gear stick fell out... man... the list goes on...
Oh yeah...and the initial time quoted was 3 weeks.... i didnt get my car back till 9 months later....

My quote a bit too much or your price a bit to much? the quote I got is for the E8 which shits all over most resolution wise (which is what you need to run quads to atmo)

Took it back to the guy, wouldn't even talk to me, even when the car wouldn't bloody start out the front of his workshop http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/ohmy.gif
Can't be stuffed taking it further, gonna cut my losses and take it somewhere else.

BTW other things wrong:
Filter not mounted properly, rubbing on radiator, cooler pipe and fuel pump http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/ohmy.gif
Radiator mounts not insulated (took it off and there is already slight damage to aluminium rad)
coil packs sitting on top of engine (took 5mins to move to the firewall by myself)

Its now coughing and spluttering and blowing smoke. phuckers...
