i threw a small local meet today and it was the first time driving it in a while. and i must say, whiteline rear sway at stiffest setting + crappy tires in back + wet road = MMMM!! the sliding wasnt ENTIRELY intentional... haha. it just tends to breakloose/oversteer naturally. i know its hard to resist at times, but on/off ramps are fun! i was in a hurry, and it was the fastest way with the set up.HAHA

itll be sprayed inside and out. and the rest of my suspension will be going in as well.

In that picture of the front with no engine or bumper, I notice a extra round bar between the tow hooks. That must be a USA bar we never got.

I am interested in the 12mm spacers under the steering rack. I don't hear about that one much, but people often use roll center adjusters under the strut (RCA?).

isnsi
5th February 2006, 03:09 PM
actually that bar is something ive welded in so i can tow it with the tow fork we have. the usdm bar that you guys dont get are really ugly, mounted higher, and... well ugly. the 12mm spacers on the rack isnt underneath, its between the rack and inner tie rod end. it gives it more steering angle.

Fay hachi man!
hey with the seam goo thats in places... do u just weld straight into that or do u have to remove it?

isnsi
12th February 2006, 04:00 AM
youhave to remove it. i just used a sharpened chisel and a hammer. you can use a screw driver also if you dont have one. too bad that seal sealer isnt brittle like the sound deadening tar, if it was it just use a air chisel at 40 psi all day long haha

mc68
12th February 2006, 04:51 AM
hammer an chisel gets most of it off...except for those hard to reach places where toyota thought they'll double it up http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif...thats when the oxy tourch comes out, and melt that shit right out...then start welding http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif looks good man...

ive welded through mine a couple of times, and lets just say it gets messy and the fumes are not fun.

just a q, why did you chose to spot weld everything instead of running 2-3cm beads along then leaving the same gap etc etc?

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

isnsi
12th February 2006, 04:44 PM
i figured i could save my self the gas and wire and just do spots instead of running small beads. and also run less a risk of warping the metal from too big of a heated area.. hopefully im making sense. haha

mc68
12th February 2006, 05:12 PM

hopefully this weekend i can paint. im still looking for a new front bumper. i really want the full goodline kit, but i cant shell out $850 right now. so i might end up getting a used zenki front bumper and use that.

also the rear fender flares are a bit screwed up and im debating whether to fix it or cut it out and rivet on 1 inch wider fender flares. of course the 2nd choice is more expensive and will delay my paint schedual. oh boy soo much to worry about... money comes very slowly and i got by april 23rd to finish

today all i was able to do was remove the rear lsd axle and mock up the brackets next to the supra rear end.... and im doing this by myself, with a very bad cold.lol

yea i little crazy haha! well i figured the gze doesnt have as much CHEAP potential as the 240sx engine has. and what im aiming for is a good reliable daily/track car. not too many people ventured off here in putting one in the rolla. but after test driving one with a 4.3 ring and pinion ratio. its just amazing! its just torque all throught the powerband!
the stock engine mounts bolt right in and theres no banging the firewall out, and no modifying the tranny tunnel. the most work you really have to do is just cut out a hole for the shifter, since its like 3-4inches closer. a bit close to the ebrake handle but no interference when in 2nd or 4th gears. as for the drive shaft, a one peice will be made.

still debating if i should buy a new 4.3 and cryo it and upgrade to kaaz lsd or something. or just modify a supra rear end to fit. supraq rear end is waaay heavier, but i know for sure itll hold up to the power now and to maybe future upgrades :X

its just the pros and cons of having a ka24de outwiegh that of a gze. ill get pictures up once my computer is up and running again.

errrr isnt the KA24de a single cam shit thing?

like they came in utes here...good for pulling a trailer maybe, but why waste such a nice thing on such a disappointing engine.....

sexy bonnet, u got it from racespec

isnsi
15th June 2006, 04:04 PM
actually its a dual overhead cam engine. the single would be the ka24e. the potential with the ka24de is great. and cheaper to build than an sr20. you guys should drive a stock ka24de in a corolla. its insane! yea you cant rev to 8000, but so what? haha

"if your only looking for 300 hp, that is cake with a KA. Ive spent a total of 1800 bucks on mine and i have 377whp. trust me, its not that hard. just a little research and not buying all the expensive parts, because there are parts out there that preform the same but have 1/4 the price of brand name stuff."

"Ive had both, an SR and a KA. my SR cost me about 8000 bucks when i was done with it cause I did a full rebuild and turbo upgrade. I sold the car and did a budget KA project. I spent 1800 bucks on my KA and got way more power out of it then I ever did the SR."

im not crazy enough to turbo it yet. i mean, i just dont have the money http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

the bonnet was from btune here in california. www.btune.net

rebuild kit came in. ill be making the engine mounts tomorrow since i got access to the shop that day. when thats done ill fit the tranny, make the mount for that and start taking the engine apart. so far so good, progress has been slow, since its been mostly a waiting game.

well heres some pics, engine is just dangling there at the moment, took my measurements for the mounts and make some cardboard mock ups.
making them will be fun. also im removing the power steering pump and putting the alternator in its place to eliminate one of the belts.

our parts washer and media blaster cabinet came in so we're having lots of fun with those!

pics!

As said on the other page its a KA24DE. It comes out of the american 180sx, the 240sx. It's a very long narrow motor by the looks of those shots.

oh yea. fender flares are mounted up. still saving for wheels and stuff. parts are coming in to finish the stock swap.. gonna save money after its smogged to put int a supra rear and turbo it. parts are coming in from bnsports and an aluminum 1 peice driveshaft from luke longberger i havent really worked on it much due to financial problems.. as well as speeding tickets. but its all good. the project WILL be done. just you wait.
