I have just got a AE86 Sprinter the body is in good nick but the 4AC is about ready to shit it self, so i have been trying to find a good alternative. I want to stick with a 4A of some kind, but I dont know which one will be the best either the 16v, 20v or the ZE i just want it to go hard and be reasionably relliable.
thanks. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/blink.gif

the 4age is reasnobly quick fuel efficient and very reliable. the 4agze is extreemly thirsty but none the less reliable and with a pulley kit goes damn hard. the 20 valve 4age goes hard at high rpm and is also reliable dont know about fuel economy. For a streeter just go a 4age extractors maybe computer system, keep it simple easy cheapish niece conversion.

I usally get annoyed at people who say do a search without providing any helpful info.....

So... I'll say do a search.... the info is all right here and on toymods. just take a few minutes to have a look.

But in the amount of time it took me to say that.... heres 2 links to help u out which i found right here on these forums. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Easiest conversion will be the 16v, with the least work and no engineering necessary. THe 20v will go harder, but is a harder swap, and costs more in purchase and install costs. The GZE will go the hardest reliably, and is about as hard to do as the 16v (mabey a little harder) but you will need to get it engineered.

i would like to point out that a GZE gets just as good fuel economy as my old 4AGE did..maybe cos i always raped the 4AGE, and the GZE was just sooooooo street friendly..keeping up with traffic was no hassle at all and wouldn't even need to go to 3000rpm..! the torque difference will shock you..

so 4agze better than 4age in performace wise? and streetablity?[/b] I think that comes down to personal driving style. I used to get about 500kms to my tank with the 16v, im only going to get around 350km with the 20v. Either way, i still think its personal driving style as each engine offers its own difficulty.

16V- Finding a RWD manifold and intergrating the loom into the 4AC, but would be the cheapest option and no eng certif needed
ST20V- Fabricating inlet manifold, finding a DLI converter and modifing the water lines, but being a newer engine, should be easier to find a low KM one
BT20V- Finding a DLI converter, modifing water lines, really new engine, still quite pricey
4AGZE- Great low down torque, modifing the inlet pipe, eng certif needed

Is this your first car? Are you going to be using it on a track/dragway at all? 16v is pretty much the easiest swap but just remember there as old as the 4ac and most will also require a rebuild.

Cheers

unless your prepared to get a w55/56/57/58 etc conversion happening, and a G series huilux rear end or simlar..i would stay away from the GZE..mine although pretty stock (as far as boost goes at least) and only making around 220hp..i went through many many axles, a few crownwheels/pinions..and 2 t-50 gearboxes..now with takumi tax on all those parts..and the monster torque the GZE churns out..makes it quite expensive.. an AE86 drivetrain was not ment to have massive torque or power put through it..

a diff out of a T-18 with a TRD LSD cente[/b] Although a little stronger than the ADM S series, listen to what Mattysshop is saying, the t series isnt much stronger and will eat axels for breakkie, G series or cut down R31 (Borg Warner) works well

I'm very happy with my black top 20v... i think the way the power is delivered suits the ae86 very well.... it's not the easiest conversion though...

with the 4age 16v, i hear that they connect straight on the the 4ac loom
is this true?

and being an older engine, is it possible to get a decient amount of power out of a engine conversion for under 800?

G series is from a 1ggte Soarer right?.
How hard would it be to adapt the R31 diff?.
