hello forum!!

i want to one day do a 4A-GE conversion on my 86, i dont want to muck around with pumps and serge tanks and stuff...id like to do it propley. would it be worth finding an EFI fuel tank or just use the alternative pumps and stuff?

would an EFI fuel tank b expensive and hard to find?
anyone had the pleasure of putting 1 in...hard? http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/5/4/536981.jpg

Since the fuel tank would be JDM it probably will be a little tricky to get your hands onto.

there is a few ways around this.

1# i just used a VN commohore tank, cut out the pump and baflle assembly and weld it into the AUS Spec tank, this is how mine has been done.

2# VL Commohore pump, lift pump is optional as too is a surge tank, but i hear there isnt much room under the hachi for this unless you put it in the engine bay.

3# find a JDM tank which doesnt really have baffles in it anyways, only some sort of storage pot, kind of a internal surge tank of sorts. Can be hard to find undamaged not to mention costly.

Personally i like the setup on my car, more then enough fuel, easy to swap and replace if need be.

Its also recommended that the fuel inlet line be replaced with something a little bigger (im using 10mm inlet) but i have heard that others use the AUS spec gear, i know of a 20v and a 100kw motor still using the shitty arse 6mm inlet, its your call i guess.

Good luck with it all.

Cheers

jdm tank is great. very little surging
but it is not NEEDED
you can get away with a ext pump with a surgetank setp if you wanted.

from looking at the picture, isn't that be worst when fuel level is low and when all fuel in the bowl gone, fuel outside the bowl can't go into the bowl and be sucked from the pump?

no
its better than no baffle at all
at low levels when cornering there is less chance of surging

or..get a 4" piece of steel tube (the stuff you'd make an exhaust out of) about 3" - 4" tall, dril 1 10-12mm hole on the bottom of one side take your tank out, and weld it to the inside where the fuel pick up is..go to auto barn or where ever and get an off the self walbro 255 intank pump (alot better than the bosch VL ones) mount it in the carrier, wire it up..install fuel tank..easy!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

As far as i now most importers can source them if you ask nicely and pay a deposit, but if heard of 3 people that have aquired a JDM tank from SSS Automotive in Sydney.

Only 1 of those 3 tanks had a non working fuel pump.

To be honest thou, buy local, easy to replace when needed.
