Front METAL bar thingy

Hey all,

Just need some info, my sprinter been hit at the front (bought it like that http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif ) by a pole and the front metal bar thing got smack in.

Just wondering if there is any other vehicle chasis can replace the metal bit?? (dont really wanna destroy another sprinter http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif )

Anyone know the estimated cost of fixing this type of damage?

Wrap a chain around a tree, wrap the same chain around the metal bar thats bent in. All you have to do know is reverse the car.

Gotta do that soon.

Its a very important part of the sprinter, so i prefer to do it right the first time.

Id say he would be talking about the radiator support because there isnt really much else up front that is a main support.

take it to a panel place, you should get it repaired right.

definetly talking about rad spport and most likely lower tie bar

u can go to toyota and but the parts needed but ull be paying over 1000 for new parts(4 parts for the fix if bought of toyota)

or go pick up a front cut

cut the section out, and get a metal fabricator to weld in a new section of suqare steel..can even be round if you like! mine is straight..but it's kinda daggy..a few dents and bends in it here and there, but it's been straightened.. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

The top radiator support panel can still be bought new from Toyota (the one that joins the top of the centre support bar and what the bonnet closes into) for the princely sum of $130 trade, you could prolly add $20-30 for regular people. It's held on by 10-12 spot welds and is a piece of cake to change if you've got a welder. Fabricating something like this would cost you more in time than what the bits worth.

oh are we talking about the top rad support? or the chassis bit that joins the 2 rails at the front of the car!? WTF? everyones got a different idea!

replacing the part with a new one wont solve the problem, its bent so everything is probably out of line, reverse the damage, then replace if you want to.

thats what i thought..get a panel beater who has a 'rack' to pull the chassis straight..it might only be bent by 10mm..but can throw a wheel alignment waaaaayyyy off..i have bent 3 rails in my car (well 2 but fixed the other one while i was there) my rails were kindly pre bent from japan, in true JDM style...ha ha ha..only a few hundred to rack it up and pull it straight..then as said..get the front middle section (that links the 2 tow hooks, that piece is the one i'm talkin bout) remade..some 50-70mm square RHS, some welding, and a quick coat on shone chip matt black will have it looking awsome!

Heres the pic of the damage, so far the rad support look good just a bit bent. Most of the damage is on the bottom bar. The rail still LOOKS good from my point of view. The bar looks like it has been pushed back ( slow and painful hit http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif ).

Would this cost over $500 to fix??

it depends i think cos you either gotto get it cut out and replace with another but then again the joints will be weaker =\

its gone in and up, thus you pushed the rail in.

Theres no point in replacing it with a new(Im repeating myself again), wrap a chain around the damaged bit to the bottom of the tree (drill a hole on the panel if you have to wrap the chain) and reverse the car.
You dont exactly have to make it look neat.

along with alot of new stuff that just arrived that i cant be bothered listing ring up ur local toyota dealer and theyl put u on to the franchise that has em in stock
as i cant remeber what the name is but itas in melbourne

im trying to do most of the repair on the car myself, so i'll probly do the chain wrap thing, but what happens after that.

1. Find a half cut (hopefully soon) and some how rip it out (tips and hints will also be good) and weld it back in place.

2. Buy a big square metal from the local hardware and weld it straight in. (Legal issues) http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif Thinking of doing this.

3. Get some else to do the job.

Hey Mattysshop, how much did every add up to?? got any picks for reference??
