i reckon so you can do an aprenticeship or a uni degree that they pay for while earning 30k+ a year.

Plus you get to wear uniforms that the chicks dig and fire automatic weapons!

Oh and if you do engineering you can blow shit up! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I think your asking the wrong type of people, the person that can give you the best answer is a so called war hero or veteran.
If you don't know of anyone that fits this discretion watch born on the 14th of July, saving private Ryan because this will be your reality if you choose to become one.

http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2003/iraq/forces/casualties/

Dont think you get something for nothing, everything has a price.

Dude, warfare these days has nothing to do with "saving private ryan" and to make life decisions based on hollywood is Stupid.

Ian, I agree with Keni, this is probably an excellent way for you to channel your passion/aggression to be the best person you can.

these days you dont realy even see the enemy face to face let alone the saving private ryan shit!

who the f*** uses their left hand to cock the bolt on a springfield?

Fuckin seriously you do that in sniper school youd get ass raped by a drill sargent!

Thinking of joining the army, could you kill a man? If you went for a non-combat role do you want to be that close to men killing men?

I know this is Australia and we don't have wars of our own, we just send guys to poor countries nearby and wherever bush says but...
you gotta think of the exteme situation you could be put in.

You might not ride out your 4 years or whatever doing push ups and playing guns in the bush somewhere.

yeah i could end someones life if he was thinking the same way .

the army is the last choice for me Ive tried every where job after job everythink you could think of ive tried to get into but i have failed even got turned away from Mission employment (f***ed huh lol) like my prevoius alias said you ever have to be gay or of forign decent to get a decent government job (look at rail corp if you dont believe me) and everywhere else they dont care about education all they want is experience which i dont have because no one has gave me a chance to its bullshit really and Im feed up with it

Ok with out turning this into a massive 8 page reply.
only you know if the army is right for you.. if you had to choose the defence force i would look at navy or air force before hand.
When i left school i took a interest in joing the airforce, they offered soem great and exciting roles. Navy wanst my cup of tea because i wasnt too keen on hanging otu on a boat all the time. and Army, well army to me seems liek the bottom of the defence force.

Anyway i later decided that it wasnt for me, however a friend of mine was sure the air force was for him .. he rocked up and had an interview and they told him that he should come back in 12 months and apply again, as he was not mentally mature enough to deal witht he stuff you have to see, the stresses etc

I have heard that these days you have to be quite smart to get into the defence force. looking back on it now, i am smart enough to join the defence force, (even though my HSC would proberly tell you different - but thats another story) .. but i have a problem with authority, im not a sheep etc.
in my opinion if you want to be moulded into something like a robot and dont have a problem with always being told what to do and not think for yourself. then join the defence force.

If your thinking twice about it then its proberly not time for you to sign up (they will proberly knock you back anyway) .. at the end of the day dont worry about having had so many jobs, this is new day, gone are the days that you left school got a career/trade and did it till you die.
just try out all sorts of things till you find something you like,

This is just my personal opinion .. i hope its helped you abit.
and i wish you luck in whatever path you choose http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

cheers

not being a sheep doesn't purely involve having a problem with authority. you follow traffic lights, yeah?
defence force isn't all "being told what to do" etc there is some flexibility in the path you take how you approach it. with relatives in both the air force and the army and friends in the army, i have seen how it is good for some and not so good for others.
but yeah, agree with Monk, Find out which force and which direction within it is best for you but by the sounds you may have to start at or close to the bottom before they will look at you for anything due to lack of experience and paper/certificate skills knowledge. if nothing there suits then keep looking for any job so you can rack up that experience you need (i know. can't get a job cos of no experience. can't get experience of no one'll give you a job. it sucks)

trust me I am someone that does a lot off fittness and other things I have trained with army soilders, piolets and navy crew and they all liked it at first but the novelty wore off also aviod the army the army is marching ,marching and more marching and runing and that get's gay day after day after day but in the navy there's nowhere to run so I would go the navy or air force http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif but your choose but remember once your in there's no out for 4 year's so take your time
