Hey guys seeing as though the rebuild is well underway, i thought I'd show you the history of the car:

I got the car halfway through 2005, looking like this:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153651.jpg
100% Stock with JDM 4age conversion from a GT Apex
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153652.jpg
Totally clean, including "Trueno" steering wheel
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153653.jpg
Stock Ride height, crappy wheels, badly painted bumpers

Shortly after, I started changing some things like the wheels and bumper colour. Also got some suspension mods like coilovers and began stripping the interior:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153654.jpg
AJPS Coilovers etc...
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153655.jpg
Attatched Kouki front bumper, painted both bumpers black
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153656.jpg
lowered ride height, bit of camber
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153657.jpg
Cleaned up the engine bay, funky airbox
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153658.jpg
Began weight reduction through removing sound deadening
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153659.jpg
Started my sticker collection

At the beginning of 2006, I decided to start drifting at Barbagallo and entered a few competitions:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153660.jpg
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153661.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153663.jpg

By the end of 2006 I lost my lisence, and so I decided to pull the car off the road for a complete overhaul.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153664.jpg
Earned myself a yellow sticker(defect notice)
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153665.jpg
Took the car for a "john lost his licence v2 Cruise" (Second time i've lost my lisence and had a cruise for it)

Naked.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153667.jpg
Engine: OUT, Sold to Matt_AE86

I first flared the guards and prepared the body for a respray:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153668.jpg
Front guard

rear guard, you can also see the safety 21 6point rollcage that was installed

Bit of creativity by my friend "Johnny K Motorsports"
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153672.jpg
Rust like this (which caused my fueltank to almost fall out) has been repaired to an extent

While preparing the body, i've also built a motor:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/153673.jpg
AE92 smallport head, port and polished, hks 272cams, hks valve springs

Which went in after the respray:

So i got the paint for nothing and yeah my car is now blue instead...... I do the miss the red so maybe perhaps in the future it may go red again!

Thanks for that mate. I dont suppose you know what the tuning intervals (ie rpm) is on it?

Did you just grab the adaptronic because it was cheap etc, or was there reasoning behing it mate?

Sorry just doing a bit of research into ECU's at the moment and first hand information in best :)

Bustin, at first i was going to get a EMS stinger as it seemed to be cheap and effective from what i was told. When i started buying all my engine bits from kaizen garage, i had a word to anthony bout the ecu, cant member at the time i member it sounded like an interesting ECU, plus good value for money, if your really game you could tune the thing yourself, just need the program and a laptop with cable to hook up to the ECU. the programs pretty simple to use and most tuners should be able to play with it. Tuning intervals RPM wise is every 500rpm. Car should be getting tuned soon, so will let you know of its true performance til then

Car's looking very nice John.

Bustin theres heaps of info on them at the adaptronic website (http://www.adaptronic.com.au). Although theyre a "basic" ecu they can still do some pretty cool thing like closed loop boost control and run two infintely variable cams (dual vvti). BTW, tuning points are switchble between 250, 300 and 500 rpm ;)

Hey thought i'd update the status on my car.... past few months i've finnally got the car tuned up plus fitted up a 4.5 final drive. Atm the car managed 120hp atw... my tuner told me stock 4ags averaged around 85hp atw in this particular dyno so I'm happy with the result... tuner also told me we can easily get 125hp just we didnt have time to set the cams to his specs. anyways last weekend i've got back on the track (barbagallo race track) and was a heap of fun car feels really aggressive now and responsive, just the rear tires federal 535 were abit flexy so probs get something stiffer for next time. On sunday i entered the collie drift/burnout comp were it was based on single runs... had a ball and ended up taking 1st place!!!. Anyways I'm too lazy to type hahaha i'll just throw up some pics enjoy

Johnny_K
10th April 2008, 12:43 AM
Ummm some fujitsubo 4-1 (jasma) manifold... i heard they crack fairly easy.. must be due to the small flanges ?

slydar
10th April 2008, 08:23 AM
nah, just fatigue and a fairly brittle material + 1 million heat cycles. pretty much the same with all 2nd hand old jdm manifolds. get to know someone with a mig (or maybe better still tig).

still its worth it so you don't have the same headers as every one else.

Gilly
10th April 2008, 11:52 AM
sweet, i have those headers and i know you have a mig D so thats a win for me

Dave i've removed all the stickers and decided to start fresh... a mate of mine is getting some decals made and if I'm happy with the final result then i might get some for the beast... other than i've been having ideas to make my car look like yoshioka's trueno coupe when it was blue with some crazy silver/chrome decals hmmmmm

Ok thought i'd post up a few updates on my car, been a while since i have. Now that i've got myself a daily i don't drive the car as much mainly only on track days (It gets abused whenever it gets driven at least hahaha). Had a drift prac few weeks ago in the wet and was abit of a mission to handle at first (no grip!!!) but after lowering tire pressures and adjusted my shocks down the car was abit more forgiving and managed to drift the whole barbagallos course in the wet :P. Recent upgrades for the car has probs been the tokito shocks for the rear (don't worry ken i'll have money soon baka!) and spacers to fill them guards (thanks matt!) Last few pracs as well been starting to have surging issues so i plan to sort that out soon. Atm planning to get some nicer cam gears (with markings) and redo my cam timing and get it retune and hopefully grab a few more ponies.
Anyways heres some pics from last prac

Agreed, sexy car!
But i HATE the way some photographers put their tag over the entire photo. It just ruins it.

How much power are you making from the 4age?

Pics look great!

Johnny_K
21st July 2008, 08:25 PM
Atm the engines making 120hp atw (stock 4age's on this dyno averaged around 85hp atw) my tuner said the HKS timing sheets are abit on the soft side so I'm hoping to redo the timing soon and get it retuned and hoping to see another 5/7hp gain

OK some more updates. Car is starting to look more and more like a empty shell as now i've gutted it abit more such as cutting up the passenger door (now its super uper flopy) removing door and boot seals and cutting other random stuff managed bout 20kg of crap in the end, hoping to get it weighed again at the next drift comp. September was the collie drift comp (3 hour drive with loud exhaust/stiff car does hurt) which outta 34 entrants managed 4th place so im happy bout that. Got my HKS cam gears fitted up and redone the cam timing and just got it retuned last nite. Was abit stressful as power for some reason had dropped again but afta fiddling with the cam timing again managed 126rwhp on a 4th gear run. tuner said easily make 130+ rwhp if 3rd gear was used but we had problems as my chassis appears slightly bent causing one of the rear wheels to slightly lift causing abit of light wheel spin on the dyno. as well as that also had vibration issues with flat spots on the tires and knackered taildshaft bush which also affected the dyno run. Engine is alot better now pulls nicely to 8800rpm unlike last time power would die around 7000 due to gay cam timing. Anyways here some pics, will post up some more later during the week of the engine bay and blablabla enjoy

looking at the first few pics i thought that much sand runoff would be great, last picture sort of reveals how unforgiving it must be

as long as one wheel is still on the ground its all good baby....

Yeh that last one was kinda funny mattski told me to do something on one of my runs like throw a wheel onto the dirt so i did lol. didnt notice that a ditch was formed from cars running off throughout the day so my wheel kinda just dug itself into the dirt next minute i feel the car lifting from the ground hahahaha good fun
