i forgot to post this when i changed my springs last, i was reminded to when fitting my new AJPS springs (free plug Dave now you don't have to post in this thread http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif just jokes!) anyway if any of you are using non short stroke shocks (Koni's etc) you will find that when you jack the car up the front springs and rears for that matter fall out of place.

the solution is quite simple and inexpensive. in the top spring plate and in the lower spring seat there is a hole, i think its supposed to be a drain hole in the bottom, what i did was buy some fencing wire (reasonably thick) and tied the spring to the strut seats .

this takes literally 2 minutes and means you don't have to muck around trying to get your springs to sit right.

a bit dodge but mine has held together for over a year now http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

i don't have photos if any one asks, but the holes are easy to find.

Good idea! My front springs will go in next week I was wondering if it was possible to do something like that.

For a more "structural" method, take a look at some of the 4WD's with supr high ground clearance. They use a webbing "strap" to limit suspension travel. Go and see a 4WD susp. specialist, and he will be able to show you what i mean, and there will probably be something "bolt on" available that can be adapted.basically this is a fat strap connected between the chassis and the suspension component, that holds the suspension together at maximum travel.

When you use lowered springs with regular shocks, not only is it a pain when you jack the car up, but the springs can jump out of their locations if the car is "unloaded" over a big bump, which could be extremely dangerous (imagine one rear spring falling out at high speed!!!)

that still would be highly illegal and would not pass RWC or your average copper pulling you over inspection..

i beleive you can get another weaker/flimsy spring that sits ontop of your regular spring, so when you hoist your car it keeps them captive.
seen them on some hks coilovers.

Yeah, theyre called "helper springs" and you can get em for coilovers, but they wont be much good for someone using just lowered springs on standard struts/spring perches

Theyre the pink bits in this pic

Matty made a good point guys, this should not be used for a roadworthy, its just handy when you are at the track or mucking around at home. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

you wont have a problem with stock springs unless they are cut

if the springs are to short for the shock you will get free play from the spring moving around theres two holes around the bottom support just use coat hanger wire and twist them together, also when jacking up your car you might want to guide the spring in when jacking the car down
