Hey peeps,
After updating Jim's thread I realized I don't even have a thread here ahahah. My website is pretty useless at the moment. I was driving the 4AGE KE70 around for atleast a month and a half and never even got a decent engine bay photo (And trust me, my conversion had to be one of the cleanest around, everything was neat and OEM looking).

The KE70 write off...
Anyway, about 8-9 days ago, on one of me and Jim's drift excursions, I learned something... Never stick your arm out the window, mid-drift, to show off to cameras... while you are using an open diff. Came around the corner cleanly, initiated the drift, and *bang* it regained traction, threw me into inertia and my front left wheel hit a curb at around 80kmph. I bent the control arm about 40 degrees back, bent the tie rod and managed to even kink the chassis rails in two locations. The impact also broke the mounts off my thermofan, which fell onto the waterpump pulley and got chewed up quite nicely as it was thrown violently around the enginebay... *sigh* http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sleep.gif
That was once a 2degree negative camber! Also the steering wheel is actually turned a little to the left at the moment.. talk about toe in ahahah.
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/889/poscamber3yi.jpg

Anyway 3 days later I went out and purchased this nice little buzzbox. A white AE71 CS-X. T50 gearbox with perfect synchros. I was quite impressed by my find. The last few days I've done some rust fixing work, panel replacing and just sprucing up its general roadworthiness. Some time this week it will get a roadworthy certificate, be registered, and then straight away the 4AGE and all suspension mods will go in.
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/7420/stockasarock8sh.jpg

After rwc and rego I figure I'll probably make a whole new section of my website dedicated to the AE71. Start off fresh http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif.

Update:

I decided to make this the daily-driver and buy a MINT one for the 4AGTE some time in future. Anyway.

No matter the shit-ness of the rest of the car, I do pride myself on doing a neat OEM-looking conversion, with as little random wiring as possible, and a clean engine bay. The cops that pulled me over and gave me the defect didn't even realize that the engine had been changed. Hahah I remember the first thing the cop said to me: "JEEZUS, sounds like you're revving that thing to 6000RPM or something!", then I'm like "7800RPM actually sir". The look on his face was priceless...

Damn kids and their graffiti!?
Nah not really, just had a bit too much fun last night hahah.

First post updated. Ahah yeah I've been told the spoiler sucked, so it won't be going on this car, it'll stay on the OMGWTFBBQ spare parts shell http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif.

Evan: Hahah yeah sorry man, I'm a menace to ke70/ae71s everywhere http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif. That was the second write off. The first one was due to driving on a shit road on my L's (Yes the council finally followed it up and fixed the road...). And the second one being that 100% genuine JDM drift damage yo'.

Dave: Lol only the best drifters drift with open diffs http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

Leo: Yeah I have RA28 struts still sitting in my backyard from the written off KE70, muuuuuch bigger solid discs. I'll be getting these upgraded to coilovers soon.

Drift^Laurel: When I first put it into the KE70, it took around 2 weeks to get it all in, then a month f***ing around because I was given the wrong ignitor module and changed EVERYTHING else before even thinking about the ignitor.... The second time it took me 2 days from pulling out the 4ac to driving the 4age.

Others: Thanks for the nice comments http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Ok for a massive update, I'm building this car into an AE71/AE86 Hybrid. First there is the RWC to take care of, which should happen within the next week (stupid defect). Anyway, pictures tell 1001 words.

The sprinter myself and my cousin are currently *slowly* paying off. I get the front end and rear bumper, he gets the interior and most of the other shit, works out well.
http://www.ajps.com.au/kevsshit/my86_3.jpg

Trying to decide between Teal and Blood Orange for the respray colour after the hybrid is complete, votes anyone?

http://www.ajps.com.au/kevsshit/disp5.jpg

The things I do for RWC omg...
http://www.ajps.com.au/kevsshit/upd2.jpg

Ooooo shiny http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif (Not finished yet, still more sanding and polishing to do. The TVIS badge is just sitting on there for testing purposes, not glued on yet.)
http://www.ajps.com.au/kevsshit/upd1.jpg

Even though this is the best performing stock 4AGE I've ever felt (180,180,180,180 compression, etc.), I'm gonna clean the inside of it a bit more while its out. (Sanding down the letters on the cam covers very carefully at the moment).
http://www.ajps.com.au/kevsshit/upd3.jpg

And another shiny thing I got delivered today.
http://www.ajps.com.au/kevsshit/strutb.jpg

More updates veeeery soon.

Edit: Almost forgot the quarter panel test-fit pics *slaps head*

This is all taken with the quarter panel slightly forward. All I would have to do when I get my quarterpanels is to grind down the top area a bit and it will slot in perfectly http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif.

Dom AE71 braces fit the front fine but rear braces are different

tuf_rolla

May I make a suggestion with the front end swap? Don't try and fit the whole panel as it doesn't line up. Do like we do in minitruck land and graft the panels together to create one new panel. See the picture below. Once you have cut this section off your ae86 panel do the same to the ke70. Then combine the top section of the 86 to the bottom section of the 70. Hope that makes sense.

Dom: Yes AE86 front strut braces fit KE70's/AE71's perfect. Did a test fit on the day that I got it and it fits like a glove.

Tarmac: My first thoughts were along the lines of doing exactly that, although it gets complicated trying to weld 2 panels together.. wouldn't they warp under the heat of a welder? Or even if they didn't, would you be able to sand them down so they look relatively... nice? I think grinding down the top right edge bit (just to the left of the fox sticker), and slotting it straight in is a much better idea, the shape of the panel is almost identical, and I'll probably fill that valley to the left of the W with bog and smooth it out, then cut the little ridge into it so it lines up nice.

Kev.

To weld 2 panels together you need someone who is experienced at welding. If you take your time welding the panels together and only do small welds at a time the panels won't warp. Also by doing it this way you can retain the ke70 swage lines and not have to worry about bogging up the ae86 ones.

After being welded together you grind the weld marks down and then run a small amount of bog over them to smooth out the weld marks. If you grind too hard and too long you can warp the panel just like welding.

I am sad to say that during the night, Kev was in a fatal car accident. I don't know the details yet other than he had a crash while driving my Corolla and passed away.

As his room-mate and being one of my best friends I am struggling to even write this. I can't imagine how his family must be feeling. He was someone who showed the most potential out of anyone I knew and it's such a waste that's hes gone now. He will be sadly missed as both a fellow car modifier and as a good friend.

I thought I would also give a bit of an update, I didnt previously because I wanted to make sure it was apropriate. From what I hear from his brother and my dealings with the police, Kev was driving along minding his own buisness when someone from the oppersite direction overtook over double white lines, they went over a crest and found Kev right infront of them. A car that was behind Kev also hit into him.

As for me it looks like I can get anything out of my car if I chose to but otherwsie it will be crushed. I am happy to never see it again because I don't want to haunted by the memory of it. Kev was worth more to me than any amount of parts.

In a way I am happy that the car he was driving at the time was mine and not his because now we have something to remember him by.
