Ok, next question...

I have just bought a notebook, and am wanting to connect it to my desktop so I can drop all my files onto it.

How do I do it?

Can I run a net browser from it?

Do you have a network card or anything link that in your computer?

or do you have a router?

If so you can either just use a network either cable, or if you want to sent up a wireless network you can get a wireless access point and run it off you router.

If you do this you can then share into, transfer files etc

that you mentioned you recently purchased your new lappy.. and if dont mind going with network cables..i pressume that gadget of yours has a onboard / intergrated network cards (usually situated next to the 56k modem port if it has one..)

used for network connectivity but less mobile...

a wireless network card for lap tops can damage you a starting @ $90, but if you happen to have bought the super dooper ultra combo deluxe laptop with built in Wifi... well its already laid out for you.. by default the windows does the scanning for you..

but yes u do need a wireless router for the other PC in order for them to talk..

as for local p2p all u need is a simple cross over cable, if only 2 pcs are involved..

From memory Kev told me his old desktop doesnt have a network card.

So you wont be able to network the two via router or network due to this.

Only way, get a cd burner and start burning your data to cds and then copy it to the lappy.

pay someone to do it
most wireless installs take 2-3 hrs after you redo everything properly and install all the protection you need anti spy and virus bizzo

you'll have to get someone to come in and set it up for you... as it can be a tricky excersize... or you need to read the book...

pretty much just find out the default IP the router starts up with, plug a blue cable into the back of it and the other end into your lappy, open internet explorer type the IP with a "http://" infront of it. have a look around and see if you can put a "WEP" key on it and see if it doubles as a dhcp server.... go to your laptop and scan for new wireles networks, when it asks for a wep key put in and presto...

but it's easier to get someone in... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif

Unless there is some kind of hack out to do it, i doubt it. There ARE ways to do it, it's just complicated and hard to find a program.
