vote away people.. just getting an idea of what people think about the different companies. i hear a lot of different things from different people abt how "shell is shit because its not smooth" or "shell makes my car run smoother than the others" or mobile is "more fuel efficient" http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/huh.gif

i seem to get more k's when i use mobil..but i guess its probably where u drive and how u drive that makes the difference. im using extreme now, seems to run well..and i dont see any problems with vortex. ultimate is good..i dont see any difference in them..however i noticed that extreme made a difference.

is the extreme the 100ron optimax? i always wanted to try that but has e5 ethanol? boost 98 was alright, but had more ethanol...

i also prefer ultimate over the others but if i can't find anything else i will use optimax http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif
are they selling vortex 98 yet?

I reckon BP ultimate is the best, but only because thats what others say.
I always use it though, but then again, i still cant tell the difference between optimax and normal fuel and even caltex......
But yeah, ill just keep using BP ultimate becasue its so close to me!

in perth the only real hi octane fuel we have bp ultimate (98).

the highest octance fuel the other companies have are normal premiums (96) :S

bp monopoly over here

A few years ago my parents had a jeep wrangler and they put shell in it and it made the car stinky.. Not like normal petrol stink either, really really bad stinky. So I am too scared to use it.

smell = sulphur...

many cars particularly older ones with new engines.. people forget to upgrade thier fuel lines.. thinking the olds ones would suffince.. lots and lots of cars have come into my mates workshop ( grease monkey) with bad fuel leaks.. all of a sudden.. the shell optimax appears to have eaten the old rubber fuel lines.. even one case stuffed the fuel pump.. i know alot of it is hearsay.. so i think if you can consistantly use a particular fuel it would be better.. just like a particular oil.. shell is too inconsistant for me.. up to 98.. bullshit.. BP garuntee in the little books no less than 98 octane!

kev laughed at me when i told him i always put high octane in my car. i use shell (mainly for fly buys).
my dad thought i wouldn't know once when he put the regular stuff in it but the car ran like absolute shit. i haven't noticed too much of a difference between the different high octane but i think this is where kev laughed at me - my thrashing is not exactly a propoer manual street or track thrashing and if any of you know me, i am the one with the 78 auto civic - (does that make my vote void?)

heheh my dad did that once too pen....put 91 in my other car...got 200m down the road and said, why did you put regular in it? (as it was detonating like a pig)

but yeah, bp ultimate is the only one for us.

I use BP ultimate cos the truck company I work for buys all it's fuel through BP so we get a discount http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

however these supposed horsepower gains that come with using ultimate/optimax etc. will only apply if your engine is tuned for high octance fuels.

I saw a report on it on 5th gear (pommy car show).
They dyno'd a renault clio, a volkwagen golf and an my05 STi. both on Ultimate and regular.

only the STi showed a difference on ultimate, of about 10HP

well hey guys / gals,

you all enjoy your premium up there with the 98 ron rating, some lucky enough to get 100ron. Well down here in tassie we get 95 ron :@ its f*#king stupid, also at the moment that 95 ron costs us just about $1.40 a litre, unleaded is $1.31

I am considering just going back to bikes http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

where do you buy extreme in Brisbane?

anyway the problem with optimax is it "goes off" if its fresh stuff it will 98, when it sits around it deteriorates. ultimate is the better fuel overall for sure.

Shell Optimax EXTREME is 100 octane. In brisbane, u can get it at the Shell near Garden City or at the Shell on Compton Rd near Stretton. The pump handle is silver, not blue like normal optimax.
I think Ultimate is better than Optimax... But after i tried the new Extreme... i think its pretty good aye... hard to say which ones better...

BP ultimate is the ONLY thing we use in a race engines,

after talking to others in the pits as well other gemini racers have found the shell just doesn't perform like the ultimate. we also asked around a ski club in regards to ski racing, and they said exact same thing, the also believe premature breakages had shell fuels in them.

I filled up with Ultimate today for the first time in my 4ac and i can say i did make slight improvement.
Or is it just in my mind ?

Does it make much diff to non race engines? ie 4ac?

Anyone know how Vortex 98 compares to Ultimate? BPs are out of my way

usually find myself prefering to fill up with BP Ultimate, Shell Optimax is next preference.. Ive tryd 100 extreme once or twice... not worth the extra $$$ and its not very abundent...
If Im running empty then I will get Vortex If I have to... personally I think all the premiums are pretty much the same shit, I dont notice any differences between any of them...

JDM 4AGE 16V ---- being the drinker... hasnt complained yet or notified me of any preferences tho... my pref is BP tho... I think I just like the look of their servos more than the others or something...

it doesnt matter what you use. if you nees get an octane booster and injection cleaner

DRFT - 86
24th June 2006, 11:21 PM
Tip for anyone who may think about putting injector cleaner in your tank.......>

If your petrol tank has never been cleaned I would advise against putting this shit in the tank....
sure it does a good job cleaning the injectors... but it also does a top job of cleaning your tank of all the shit that has built up and deposited in there over its life time............ this shit then gets pumped through your fuel filters... turning them to junk... and if the shit goes through the filters it couldnt be any good I would imagine either..

Just a warning...................

I'm not sure about actual power gains but it certainly made a difference when I had my 4ac. I never really depressed the pedal fully when going from a standing start (at the lights or something) because u get the lagz0r of unresponsive death but premium makes it feel alot more responsive. Down low it just felt smoother and felt like it revved up a little faster and thus more enjoyable to drive.
I found myself pushing the pedal down harder because of that though so for the first couple of times I was getting the same or worse mileage http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

for my 4age the best fuels i have found so far in my short ae86 driving history are;

1. BP ultimate
2. Shell V Power
3. Mobil Synergy 8000

definately stay away from
1. United 98 + ethanol (shittest fuel ever)
2. Caltex vortex

these 2 made the sprinter run like absolute poo with an extremely noticable power drop

Stupid question as i just fill up any where, whats the difference in 3 octane?
:S

just googled http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif : "the octane rating of gasoline has nothing to do with the power of a fuel or its ability to clean an engine. It is just more expensive to make."

"The octane rating (or number) of a fuel is a measure its ability of to resist ignition under pressure."

goes on to say if fuel ignites under pressure before spark causes ping and can damage engine over time but you all knew that http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

I just run race fuel all the time.

Not really. When my '86 is on the road it'll be getting Ultimate 100% of the time, just like my SW20 did.

For those who didn't know, there's a rumour going around that ethanol kills turbo's, so stay away from that shiz. Well, that's what one of my Silvia buddies reckons his mechanic said. Another one of his mechanics said he can run 27psi through a stock CA18 on a stock turbo, so yeah, that's why I'm saying it's a rumour, lol.

I hope we get 102RON one day just like the japs. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif 105 would be better though.
