Just realised I could host pics here!!!
so I thought Id redo the first post as seen below:

Well I thought it was about time to do one of these thingys for my car:

I bought the car off shiri and no offence dude but I am suprised it was still going after looking at some stuff in detail...

First off this is what the car looked like when I bought it:
[attachment=2365:attachment]
[attachment=2366:attachment]
(Note cooling hoses unsupported... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/blink.gif )
[attachment=2368:attachment]

By the end of the first day of having it it looked like this, lol:
[attachment=2369:attachment]
(Note that the signal line for the fuel pump had been run under the carpet, under the rear seat and under the spare wheel...)

Anyway with the car stripped a few things became apparent rather quickly, for one the clutch master cylinder had let go and clutch fluid had stripped the paint off both sides of the firewall underneath it. The ball joints on the front were both rooted, one looked like a wheel had come off on the move as it was roughly grinded to the top of it, one of the drum pistons had also let go and let drips of gunk on the inside of the drivers wheel.

The 'little bit of rust in the hatch' actually ment the hatch was a right-off and so was the rear passenger guard as pictured below:
[attachment=2370:attachment]

Anyway, we also notcied that the heater box did not contain a core at all and in order to keepo rego happy we wopuld have to put one in, so I bought one and we soon realised that the engine still needed a little more clearance from the firewall... in other words it was looking more and more like the engine was going to need to come out.Hence the call was made that it would and while it was out we would respray the engine bay black as it would match the bonnet/hide oil and other shite from rego people in days to come.

While scoping out the possiblilty of pulling the engine and gearbox we noticed that there was actually no front swaybar at all and that the mounts on the T18 diff had been welded on by someone who really need to go to the toilet or something cause they were somewhat sub-standard. So we re-welded the mounts, I bought a swaybar from KE70 20V (BTW he was awesome and sent EVERYTHING and really cheap and quickly too http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tup.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tup.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif ) So after some new eurothane bushes and some black spray the front was swaybarred up and looking good too.

Then we pulled the engine and gearbox and managed to spill gearbox oil all over the driveway.. (my bad, lol) anyway here is a before and after shot of the gear box:

BEFORE:
[attachment=2371:attachment]
AFTER:
[attachment=2372:attachment]
Well on a more serious note it seriously looked horrible and i am going to assume the 4A-C blew up all over it and it wasn't cleaned before the 20V went in...

Anyway pics of the engine:
[attachment=2373:attachment]
(note black marks on exractors were loose electrical wires and clutch line were melting from contact with them)
(also note how god damn sexy they are!!!)

FIRE ALL CONNONS!!!
[attachment=2374:attachment]
Anyway, here are some more pics of what it is looking like at the moment after huge delays... (was hoping for it to be registered by now sad.gif)
Its a little ugly cause I had to sand the engine bay to prep it for the paint this weekend!

New 'Improved' clearances

Anyway Ill leave you with a panaramic view of the garage as it stands...
[attachment=2380:attachment]
BTW that silver frame you see is quite the project itself...

Jesus, I had no idea of how bad the rust was, i never pulled off the rear bumper and only assumed that it was just surface rust and paint bubbling. When it got resprayed I would of assumed they would of fixed such a glaring problem, obviously I was wrong and I am greatly sorry for it. The 4AC didn't blow up when I owned it, and to give you some idea of how bad it was, i spent 2 hours making the gearbox slightly better, it was litterly black with tons of shit layered on it... it was much worse.

My mind is blown from what you've done to it... i'm speechless but i'm greatful that my old car has gone to someone who is unleashing the true potential that it does have.

I apoligize for anything that has gone wrong...

Are they off the shelf extractors, or custom?

JoshKE

Im affraid you'll have to ask Shiri that one, but they look pretty damn optimised to me

More done today...

Primed the engine bay and gave it a light coat of black:

Here are some pics of it primed up...
[attachment=2395:attachment]
[attachment=2396:attachment]
[attachment=2397:attachment]
[attachment=2398:attachment]

Unfortunately it was too dark for me to get any photos with black, so prehaps tomorrow, then engine in and back onto that wiring http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

BTW, geeeeez it looks tuff with the guards off, shame we can't run it like that all the time!

7th April 2006, 10:51 AM
hmmm...
you wanted to run a heater box...
so you... removed the engine...

you cleaned your gearbox? http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif

JoshKE
7th April 2006, 11:30 AM
well, I wanted to run a heaterbox, bash the firewall more, redo the wireing and paint the inside of the engine bay...

so I removed the engine...

and eveything that has come off I have cleaned... i don't think its that odd...

what throttle body trumpets are they??

Shiri
7th April 2006, 07:18 PM
I'm glad that Andrew is continuing on my desire to keep this car as practical as possible. I don't think that cleaning a gearbox and running a heater is unreasonable, in fact it's admirable that he's not going with the dori trend and completly stripping the entire thing and not caring about damaged panels. A 2KG heaterbox is hardly going to hamper the performance of this car and will at least let him do mountain runs in comfortable conditions.

Custom extractors and Custom Trumpets.

7th April 2006, 07:40 PM
Mate, top effort you're putting into this little monster! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tup.gif

Keep us posted on how it's going and the final result

BTW Is that a Recaro bucket seat. I think my one is exactly the same!

JoshKE
9th April 2006, 09:48 AM
Yea seat is recaro bucket seat, probly the same, mine has a couple of small tears in it so I have a seat cover on it for the moment till i am done with rego, only problem is those seats REALLY aren't suppossed to have seat covers on them... the dont fit all that great!

Anyway, on to the last couple days:

Well painting is pretty much done, here are some photos of the engine bay while the black is drying...
[attachment=2426:attachment]
[attachment=2427:attachment]

Paint sorta looks werid in those photos for some reason, anyway its done and looks the goods.

So we're back onto putting things back into the engine bay now and curses to my camera as it can't take photos in the dark so I am unable to show you photos of the underside of the bonnet (now black), or any of the stuff that we have already re-fitted into the engine bay.

I can show you pics of the heater core and radiator that we got back yesterday

The ends of the heater core looked to have been pressed a bit in the post, so we sent them off to mech'o to get them fixed up while he was finishin off the radiator, and not only did he fix them up but he off set the angles so that it would be easier to get in! Champ, ill leave his contact details in a later post for all the guys in the region that want custom radiator work done, this guy does great work for a very reasonable price and to top it off he's a champ too..
[attachment=2428:attachment]

now on to the radiator itself...

[attachment=2429:attachment]

haha, narh Im gunna wait till its installed so I can explain the whole lot in one go, but I can tell you it looks great and once in will look factory
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

righto guys well today's project is to put the engine back in and plug most of the shite back together, then the main couple of challenges left will be:
A ) Wiring
B ) Rust repair
C ) rego

Hey there Kids, time for another installment of gold/poo coloured levin...

Last couple of days we've done a bit more... First up I forgot to post before that AJPS helped us in our time of need and sent up some new rotors for the front express so that we could move the car out of the garage when the other lancer got back from the shop (getting the evo rear-end welded in). Anyway the story goes I go and get the old rotors machined and when i come to pick them up the nasty old brake man doesn't let me have them because they were already well below the legal limit... (whoops) anyway heres a pic of the sexy looking new ones in place...
[attachment=2474:attachment]

So yea, thanks AJPS for your prompt delevery of the required parts!

anyway back to the present...

THE ENGINE IS IN!

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/crazy.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/greenbounce.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/cool.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wub.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

We put it back in on sunday but yesterday we had to play with it more in order to get the heater pipes not completely crimped...
But anyway hopefully it will not have to move again *fingers crossed*
here is a pic of it on sunday after being put in...
[attachment=2475:attachment]

Thats with all the wires and crap all over it...
and heres a couple from last night with the covers on and the injector wiring in the rail so that it doesn't look so bad...
[attachment=2476:attachment]
[attachment=2477:attachment]
[attachment=2478:attachment]
[attachment=2479:attachment]

BTW we also painted the underside of the bonnet from that horrrible stock metallic brown to black as well as pictured below

[attachment=2480:attachment]

So now onto the wiring and the replacement of the interior, then with a bit of luck the next big adventure... driving it on the road legally!

how is it pointless?
it looks like it will be street driven often.
make it easier to rego with one too.

if the engine temps rise.
turn the heater on and watch the engine temp drop.

Sorry for the long gap in between posts been on a combat survival course for the raaf...

that course sucked hey, i spent the last week in the jungle, firstly running from a bunch of troops looking for us having to make contacts with civillians and special forces for extraction then we set up a camp for a few days in a group then they leave you by yourself and you have to start from scratch again...

the worst bit is they also don't feed you or supply you with water, gotta figure that out yourself, lol

anyway all done now http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tup.gif best bit is i never have to do it again!

anyway quick hachi update:

Wiring done!
Interior done!
rust repair done!
rego is now waiting on tuning, im hoping to have it done tomorrow (wed)

Haven't got any pics for you right now, but should have tomorrow or the next day...

I have taken it for a quick spin, first one was horrible, it was only running on 2 cylinders! could barely get the thing to 60! but then we re-checked things and it was very apparent the problem was just the spark plugs so I replaced those and the ignition leads aswell now she's back up to standard, but needs to be tuned cause she's running rich as a mother-father! Won't pass EPA at the moment and it is apparent in how it is running as well so she should be even better come the end of the week... and the best bit of all is that it should be sporting some registration plates!

bad news... tuning can't happen till next tuesday and I won't be home until the week after to do the paperwork http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif I was hoping to have taken the car with me on that trip but sometimes these things are unavoidable...

As for the heater issue its a bit of a case of listening to rumours. I had heard that you had to be able to direct hor air to your windscreen for defog in order to pass a rego check, we got a fair way through it and found out that that wasn't the case and so we said screw it we've done this much, lets finish it.

Im not super dissapointed as we were going to do 90% of what we did anyway and i am a big whimp so having a heater suits me. As far as extra weight goes..... seriously guys.... i mean I have kept the sound insulation and have carpet right the way through and am putting my old sub and amp in the back. If you want to talk about weight any one of those things is probly equlilent to (or more than) a heater box.

didn't get any photos last night but these things happen, maybe this arvo!

Well EFI Hardware called me today and said despite the scourching abd lifted tracks the ECU works and should be working...

This means less money, but believe me we tried everything else before saying it was the ECU, so we have about 2 really weak ideas left and then we're stumped. I hope this thing starts tomorrow when we get the computer back...
