Universal Pictures has secured sponsorship rights for the opening round of the 2006 Toyo Drift Australia Series.

The event which will be held at Mallala Motorsport Park in South Australia on May 27 & 28 will be sponsored by Universal's soon to be released movie 'The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift'.

“It is very exciting." said Drift Australia's Wayne Boatwright. “A lot of the stunt work in the movie was done by US Formula Drift stars like Rhys Millen who recently visited Mallala himself to run a drift training school. Universal expects the movie to be a huge success and there is no doubt that it will have a major impact on the profile of the whole drift scene." he added.

I smell a sellout. i feel my favourite sport is dying of corperate AIDS ...Drift Australia is a whore to the highest bidder.

I feel Sorry for the whole scene....Now this is the reason. that I like The Street Scene.

i agree, i dont like the idea of our drifting competitions sponsored by something that bases skill on how many Nos stickers you have

It's great how not only do 14yo fast and the furious fans confuse us with the drifters in the movie but so do these fully grown adults. *shakes head*

Formula drift is owned by Formula drift of America, so I guess there's not much boaty can do unless he's willing to find another job.
Pretty much summing up the movie:
American boy teachs everyone how its done.
American boy gets the babe, money and fame.
THE END

Yeh, since when would the Japanese know how to drift, they're lucky that, that American guy can drift so well or else the Japanese would be just holding their car sideways at crazy angles and really close to each other on tracks like Ebisu. Thats not drifting.

Damn Americans

since when is Drift Australia owned by the yanks?
But yeah this is kinda worrying, i dont think we have to worry to much though.
But a positive side to this is, drifting becoming more populer which means more track time!

^^LOL what did you write?

This 2F2F movie is really bad for drifting
Wish there was a way to stop it
Maybe we could get a petition to the government to stop it from being released in Aus or something!!!
Say that it promotes dangerous street racing

My personal opinion is that nothing is going to change towards the attitude to drifting, if it was going to have a effect on it i think it would have already done so with the Need For Speed games, Initial D and etc.
The main group of people that will go and see this movie are already aware of drifting.

Quote button is not respondign righ tnow ugh

"The main group of people that will go and see this movie are already aware of drifting."

Thats wrong.... remember all the teeniebopper chicks that were so in love with Vin Diesel after the first one? And this one has Bow Wow and another pretty boy american like that Paul Walker..... All the ricers who know not much about drifting will be watching it, including the up and coming 14yos etc.
I do remmeber a chick seeing drift openday and asking what she has to do to her Charade to make it drift like that... and I paused and said but its a FWD. And she asked what can she do to make it RWD, can she take it to the local mechanic and they will do it and how much etc etc....
There are those kinda people around, and more than u think.

P.S. Wouldnt it be kool if all the respectable competitors (and everyone else) or a large number of them idealy suddenly became sick on May 27 & 28 and couldnt make it to on Mallala Motorsport Park. That would be hella kool!!!!!!! haha

get over it.

many years ago i was not cool because i was into cars... i was a bogan/petty-head/whatever, and that was just not cool... with my folks, with the ladies, with the law.

then... someone thought they'd market the sub-culture i was a part of, and it was only a matter of time before i was listening to free-flowing bullshit spewing from the mouths of kids that were too lazy to look up how an ICE works ... fkn... now ICE means In-Car-Entertainment to most people. that's what commercialism did to my hobby... it filled it with wankers. this is much the same... i hope you enjoyed your time in the sun! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

AND THAT'S HOW MUCH I HATE MONDAYS.

The Fast And The Furious films are pure SHITE!!! PERIOD!!
They are a cash in, and its as simple as that!!
Has anyone actually seen the film "Legend Of Speed"!! Now that is a good car racing film, with a storyline!!
Or maybe the short film "The last race"?? Made for a small amount of cash, but it tells a story!!
Fast and Furious films are flashy cash ins with no regard to the real world of drifting, racing e.t.c

I am actually in the process of writing a script for a short film which I will be filming, which is based around street racing and the effects on peoples lives because of the disasters that follow
I will also be filming it towards the end of this year. When I hava trailer for the film, I will post it up here for you guys to see.
Regards, Ben (NOS4AG!!)

I have written a plot with a moral similar to shuto trial, but I don't have enough funds to make it, I can send it to you if you want, it's a full length movie story though.
Roughly its about a person that likes cars but his father is very opposed, being a cop his father drives an sti which is undercover that defects and fines people in a certain mountain at Wollongong(seen the theme here).
But the movie raises more issues such has circuit and street drifting/racing (suspension weight adv, hp, etc), losing someone, being on the other side of the law etc.
Basically the plot is a thriller, love story, comedy, fast adrenalin without the nos and other F@F crap. Cars in it are: Sti, levin, 350z, Ford xr6t, s13 drift car and an NSX.
