It has taken a bit over a year to build this new one up, mainly due to cash restrictions.. Hope to get it out onto the track and drift the shit out of it asap. Getting it tuned next week. The old one was the same setup but a bit rough, well alot rougher after I crashed it. It went off the Ipswich motorway at 80kph, rolled, landed against a tree. Car, a write off. Me, not a scratch to show for it. Its amazing how quick you can get out of a car in that situation ahaha. Well hope to cruise, drift, whatever with you guys soon. Laters.

Alright.

So I bit the bullet and decided to go turbo. I have been toying with the idea for a while now. I was going to do all the work myself but in an enlightening chat with a mate of mine, I decided to get him to do it. He knows his shit.. And instead of me taking 6 months, its taken him 3 days :o I was going to rebuild (refresh) the motor but due to funds i'm not.
Setup:
Stainless manifold (Thanks KE70Drifter!!)
Garrett GT28RS
3" Dump pipe (Thanks again mate)
3" exhaust (getting done monday)
FWD smallport manifold (cut and shut) with RB20 throttle body
Turbosmart Duel Port BOV (with custom return)
Turbosmart Boost controller
And some other custom stuff..

Here it is with SC and manifolds stripped. Looks so bare!

Trial fit of intake and turbo manifold, with turbo sitting there

lol at the potato and the headphones.. !!!

that didn't take you long to get all that on there!

how much boost are you planning on running?

28th August 2006, 07:22 PM
Pick it up tomorrow arvo. It actually took my mate 2 days to get it all done. I think its come up pretty damn well!! Sounded fat running straight out the dump pipe. Boost is going to be limited by stock injectors but I have 16psi in mind. Should get it moving alright.

To go with the new turbo setup I decided a brake suspension upgrade was in order. So in goes s13 stuff. I used:
RA40 rackends
Series 2 Bluebird tierods
AE86 camber tops
S13 coilovers
S13 brakes - new DBA rotors and Bendix pads

The whole conversion took an hour and a bit after work one day with a mate. Quite an effort!
Also used the s13 control arm which with standard guards... doesnt quite work. Getting them cut down this week so until then ive got crazy camber!!

Camber!!

LOL at the camber! thats crazy! don't go slamming on the brakes! i think that much would actually make it handle like a fat chick on a surfboard down a sand dune.. your so going to have to show us when your finished correcting the alignment/flaring the gaurds.. looks like quite a setup now!

86sp
4th September 2006, 07:43 PM
Been driving it for a couple of days now. Actually handles really well. Getting the s13 arms shortened this week and tune is booked in for Friday. Your right about the brakes, havent had a chance to really test them yet. Not sure what to do with the guards.. They may handle it, already gave them a light 'massage' .

Right, latest update.

Got tuned last week. Pulled some pretty good power. Could have pushed more boost into it as its not running out of fuel but that would be pushing my old motor.
More issues - Noticed the clutch slip an hour or so after it was tuned.. So I went for a fang with some mates down the coast the next day and fkd it completely. At one point I couldnt even grab gears! Gotta give NPC a call and ask them for a new one.. It was only a month old. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tup.gif

Thanks guys.
Still saving for a clutch. Should be in by end of the month. It amazing how much you can spend over christmas! I will have to do the rounds of joyrides once I get it sorted.
And if anyone saw me broken down on New Years on the M1..Thanks for not stopping!! Had some electrical issues which fixed itself after a couple of hours and some jump starts. Time for a full rewire..
