22nd April 2006, 10:54 PM
That headlight conversion is very cool, something different. You work damned fast that's for sure!!

22nd April 2006, 11:09 PM
i also picked up a vertex front bar that i ordered for my ae86 a while back, now that it isnt going to be used on the 86 i might have a go at fitting it to this ae71. should look tough http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

22nd April 2006, 11:26 PM

Your car needs that shittly little wing back http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif THat wing was the pure pwnage!

Headlights were off my mate's TA22.

23rd April 2006, 02:51 AM
jesus christ Andrew, taking your time to build this arent ya http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

23rd April 2006, 03:07 AM
how did ya get the paint off the rear bumper? or did u just spray paint it? also were the headlights hard to do?

23rd April 2006, 04:26 AM
just sprayed over the bumper with bumper primer. might go over it with proper paint at some point but cbf right now.

with the headlights i used the normal ae71 headlight brackets with some custom extensions i made up, seemed to work.

3rd May 2006, 11:34 PM
car looks veeeeery different from the front now because of the swap to ke70 panels n shit. trying my best to get the te71 look http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

there was alot of cable ties involved and i got a bit gung ho with the jigsaw....but it turned out ok http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif just got to fix a couple of things and make a chin spoiler and then the exterior is done http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

thanks for the comments guys, and andy...buy something off me http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

drew-spec ghetto mods.....60% of the time, it works eeevery tiiiime http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

4th May 2006, 02:33 PM
car looks kinda funny at the moment. i need to move the headlights a bit closer to the front of the car.

and once the chin spoiler is on i think it will just make everything look right.

.....im hoping :P

4th May 2006, 02:37 PM

4th May 2006, 02:38 PM

4th May 2006, 02:40 PM
hopefully it will look like this when im done http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

4th May 2006, 02:41 PM
looks heaps better! how did u secure the lights? is, it just using the original celica backing, also r the lights diffent sizes slighty or is it just me? also did the lights plugs already fit the celica plugs? or did u have to rewire?

4th May 2006, 02:42 PM
Looks unreal mate, very impressive! How hard was it to swap to the ke front? Was it just panels or do bits and peices underneath need to be modded?

4th May 2006, 02:45 PM
the lights came attached to the flat celica brackets i just made some angles to fit to the car.

to swap the panels is a pretty straight forward job. need to muscle a couple of bits to make them fit though http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif maybe the car is bent or something http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

also forgot to add that i put the ae86 rear end in the car with lsd.

thanks for the comments

4th May 2006, 02:47 PM
also did u just paint over the pinstriping that normally goes down the side?

4th May 2006, 02:53 PM
pin striping was gone when i got the car.

the rubber stripes are still on the ke panels, havent got around to removing them yet

4th May 2006, 04:40 PM
also to answer your first question dori - the headlight uses same plug as ae71 lights, so i just plugged them in. however the park lights (2 inside round lights) need a separate plug and rewire as there is nothing like that on the ae71 loom. havent got around to doing that yet

4th May 2006, 11:18 PM
thats an awsome ae71 mate and looks hot http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

5th May 2006, 06:20 PM
ok i think ive finished the exterior of the car now :)

i made the chin spoiler today and i am really happy with how it turned out :)

i think it looks much more agressive and old school now :D

the next changes will be the addition of more braces and put the coilovers in the front so that it is ready for the track day.

hope you guys like it....beacause i am absolutely rapped :P

5th May 2006, 06:21 PM

5th May 2006, 06:22 PM

5th May 2006, 07:24 PM

5th May 2006, 07:26 PM

Looks great man, giving me some ideas for my car http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tup.gif

5th May 2006, 07:36 PM

26th May 2006, 05:56 PM

i used acrylic paint exactly like the way i sprayed the ae86 so at the moment it looks kinda matte (sp?) and dodge, but after a couple of weeks ill cut it back and hopefully it will come out shiny.

26th May 2006, 05:57 PM
the old ae86 and the reincarnation in the background

26th May 2006, 06:44 PM

26th May 2006, 07:39 PM

wondering whether or not to paint bumpers with that chrome paint.... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif

26th May 2006, 07:46 PM
Yeah, might as well chrome them. It'll add the the overall "old skool" look to it all http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

DOO IT!!!! Plus I dont think it'll take too long, considering ya bumpers are held on by zip ties LOL

27th May 2006, 01:12 AM
looks good man!

27th May 2006, 08:48 PM
up until now only 2 globes from the ta22 headlights were wired up, due to the fact that the 2 headlights (2 outside globes) share the same plugs as the ae71 lights. the parklights (2 inner lights) were not wired up until tonight. i kinda made a bridge from the existing parklight plugs on the ae71 loom to reach over to where the 2 inner lights are.

........im not sure if any of that made sense......basically i now have 4 working headlights, here's a pic:

27th May 2006, 08:49 PM
and no i did not need to use a trolley jack, bucket, crc and multi thinners to make them work....http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

28th May 2006, 10:08 AM
that paint job really is hot sauce

ive wanted to do that light for a while now, but was gona wait till after my engine is all sorted... was just gona do the front panels different as u have done and get some sort of quad lights without anything around em

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif pretty much like what izumida has on the bride 180

28th May 2006, 10:59 AM
The black looks so damn sweet.

Looking real good man, can't wait to see some pics and videos of this one, hopefully not doing what the hachi did in it's final day.

29th May 2006, 01:06 AM
Thats the best looking ae71 I have ever seen! Awesome!

29th May 2006, 01:15 AM
looks good.... now all u need 2 do is make a grille out of lawn edging and u b set http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

2nd June 2006, 04:12 PM
Booo the white looked heaps better dude!

as for the best looking ae71 ever i dunno mine was pretty damn sick

2nd June 2006, 04:37 PM
put some more pics up, car looks tough as but cant seem to get too much idea of what it looks like from just the three pics
As i said before i was seriously interested in doing the same as this lights wise a while back, so would love to see it more

3rd June 2006, 04:17 PM
car went for its first drift practice last night.

car was good, but i was using 195 width tyres on the rear, so it was a bit harder to slide than the 13 inch stockers i used with the ae86 http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

just gotta work on my driving and it should be good.

i dont have any track pics but ill put up some more normal pics soon. the rear is lower now as i put in some trd 5kg springs for extra stiffness. and the back seat exited the vehicle aswell.

4th June 2006, 08:34 PM
this is how low the rear is now with the trd springs. this is with the brake cookers on the rear also, they are the tyres i used on the track. and the rear interior, mounted extinguisher on the tunnel and took seats out. and yes i havent painted everything black yet :P

6th June 2006, 08:03 PM
just took it out for a test run and its awesome. makes a huge difference.

dunno what it is but in the ae71 it really tightens up the car. almost zero understeer with really good steering response. didnt feel as much difference when i had them in the ae86.

6th June 2006, 09:24 PM
Hahaha, finally!!!!

Did ya write any new messages on the bars?

6th June 2006, 09:36 PM

Your's definately looks the goods.

21st June 2006, 10:23 PM
looks like a monster truck... jacked up big.

22nd June 2006, 06:53 PM
i made this today. tried to copy the jap te71's. i think it turned out quite well for a trial and error home job :P

i know some of the te71 bumpers are full chrome, but there are others with this much metal and rubber ends. which was the more practical version to copy.

i even moved the indicators for extra authenticity ;)

ive only done the front. ill have a go at making the rear one tomorrow

what do you guys think?

ill have a go at polishing it up soon too as the metal is pretty second hand :P

22nd June 2006, 06:56 PM

24th June 2006, 10:53 PM
hey guys, just some info that might be of interest to ke70/ae71 owners.

i tried an ae86 half cage in my car today and it fits. either phirom or myself will put up pics tomorrow.

i think that info would come as good news to those wanting to get their cars onto the track http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif.

another thing....what do u think my car is worth now?

25th June 2006, 12:29 AM
um a gazillion bucks? i dont know but it's hot enough to pass as by as being as cool as an 86 and it's got all the right stuff in it so.... i dont know?

30th June 2006, 10:55 PM
I gather the front was copied from a bumper such as this.

And the rear, as follows.

Looks so effing awesome. Great Job with it. Keep it up!!. My Favourite AE-71 in Aus for sure.

30th June 2006, 11:45 PM
You can get the bars new from overseas.. (Teddy just bough some for his KE70)..

31st July 2006, 02:41 AM
Don't mind this car, looks alright. Any updates?

How much hacking and bashing in which places to get those guards to fit?

31st July 2006, 10:40 AM
So damn good.

Was it terribly difficult to fit the ta22 lights? Asking for a mate who has a 70...

31st July 2006, 03:17 PM
guards bolted on with no real issues,

ta22 lights...outer sides, used ae71 headlight bracket, i think one of the holes lined up :P, inner side used bent bits of metal to hold them on.

updates.....some of you may know that i actually sold this car to a mate of mine.

he is having fun with it, here are some pics from a track day on 30/07/06

this has probably bin said but i didnt see it anywere but if ur looking at going for a Real TE7* look go to www.toyota3tc.com it is basicaly boys from the states and if ur really willing to pay witch i was gunna do was to get a set of original TE72 Dual headlights brought over and its possible to find the crome bumpers with the rubber ends on em, or if u want all crome try the T-18 bumpers there is a little bit of changin but it would look awesome! just like this one

well anyway good luck with it all

Cheers Sean

8th August 2006, 11:34 PM
Why dick around with T18 stuff when you can buy new chrome bumpers and plastic ends from england? all you need to find is the bumper bar mounts..

8th August 2006, 11:38 PM
well if i knew that i would have said it!

8th August 2006, 11:41 PM

23rd September 2006, 01:10 PM
hey mate i was wondering how did the cut bumper trick? how did u attatch the bumper to the mounts and did u cut the mounts out from inside the bumper?

23rd September 2006, 08:44 PM
Looks awesome mate! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif Any chance of getting some "close up" pics of the headlight install? http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

2nd January 2007, 05:03 PM
ok ive been asked quite a few times about how to do the bumper trick. so to save people asking me, this is how i did it:

first i took the bumpers off the car. i undid the bolts that you can find in the engine bay and also the ones in the boot.

next i separated the black plastic from the metal supports. there are lots of little tabs u can see when looking at the reverse side of the bumpers, which hold them onto the metal. just twist them off or whatever u need to do to get the plastic off.

then i got rid of the metal supports because you cant use them with the trimmed down bumpers.

once the black plastic was separated i had a look at them, lined them up on car, then decided how much to trim off. on the rear u need to get rid of the numberplate light. so i used that as a guide as to how much to cut off. on the front i just guessed how much i wanted to cut off. i had to rush the front so i think i cut too much off it. ended up a bit thinner than i wanted it to be, but oh well http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

i just used a jigsaw to trim the bumpers down to size. pretty quick and easy to use.

once i trimmed them to size i drilled some small holes in the body and also in the bumpers, then used cable ties to hold the bumpers on. i also used cable ties to hold the front indicators on.

dont rush it, and remember u can always cut off more, you cant put more plastic on if u cut too much off http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

and just be aware that once u do this the bumpers have almost no function if u run into something. but its a cheap and easy way to get rid of the standard park benches.

i got the idea from gilly's old ke70 so dont give me the credit for the idea. here's a couple of pics of his old car that i used to get an idea of how much to cut off:

good luck http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

also, i cant give you guys any close up pics of the headlight install cos i dont own the car anymore. but its pretty simple. if u end up getting some of the lights like the ones i used on this car, just get some metal that u think is strong enough to hold the weight of the lights. then bend it as much as u need to get the headlights in the right position. find a hole in the radiator support that u can bolt your custom bracket to then away you go. just use your imagination and go for it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

probly not a good idea to rush this job aswell. because it pays to have headlights that actually shine onto the road rather than up into the sky http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

2nd January 2007, 05:46 PM
I'm famous

9th January 2007, 08:28 AM
