Thought I'd share the love :P

I bought the car at the start of 2006 from its second owner of 15 years for $1900.
Gold in colour, 215,xxx km on the clock, 8 months rego, stock 4ac with the T50 5 speed gear box. factory mags 13x5.

Interior is very tidy sporting an un-cracked dash, all plastics, vinal floor mats, grey set covers and christmas tree smelly thing.

The bonnet is a bit faded and there are a couple of shopping trolley dents from over the years, the front bumper has given someone a nudge and needs replacing or some time with a heat gun spent on it to get the slight bow out. Small amount of rust through the bottom of the doors other than that its pretty clean cut.

From a previous project I had some bits and pieces laying around for the build up.

Basic running gear:

4agze AE92 block with a big port head, subaru TD04 MY00 turbo, supra W58 gear box with a custom bellhousing, extreme 6 paddle puck clutch with a extra heavy pressure plate, micro tech lt10s with the external ignitor module.<supplied by nick from na-performance.com>

more pictures and details to come :2thumbs:

Ive gone with a supra W58 gear box.

I found custom 4A-W5x gear box belhousing group buy on toymods so naturally I bought one.

The clutch is on the opposite side to the Aus spec T50 keeping it away from the exhaust.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/101370.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/101371.jpg

To add to my stash of car parts for this conversion, is my clutch from extreme clutches,
Which was purchased from ABS in Hobart thanks to Matt and his team for their help thus
far with all my clutches, brake pads, rotors and caliper servicing.

I had to have a lager spline to suit the input shaft spline built into the clutch plate <212mm> which is a 6 paddle button. <W58 input spline is thicker than the T50 input spline>

Car looks pretty sweet with the longchamps, needs to be dumped though.

But holy crap, that engine is awesome. How much has the build cost you if you don't mind me asking? Also any idea on what power you'll be looking at?
I'll probably be looking at doing the same type of build, but going n/a with quad throttles and bigger cams.

I havent been able to get hold of the in between photos yet but I'll post them up soon hopefully.

Mean while here is some photos of the engine in it new home.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/101537.jpg

The gear box slid in nicely. I borrowed a template from Aaron to work off and made up a cross member to suit, still have to wire up the reverse sensor.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/101538.jpg

I mounted my stealth intercooler, a light spray of mat black did the trick. The core size is 280x300x76 with 3" inlet/outlet not to small not to big just right.

Next up was finding an easily accessed place to hide away the LT10s, seems to sit nicely behind the glove box I may have to cut a small section out to allow it close. The loom still needs to be wired up.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/101542.jpg

Azza came round and started on the exhaust system for the car.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/101543.jpg

The exhaust is 3"mandrel bent mild steel, a seperator and screamer pipe has been fitted off the turbo which rejoins the exhaust further down, followed by a single high flow straight through muffler and satin stainless steel 3" tip.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/101544.jpg

Slight improvement in flow qualities was made from the standard exhaust system....

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/101545.jpg

Up n over the diff, there is a flange located here and at the fire wall of the engine bay so that the exhaust can easily be removed.

I fitted a set of KYB rear shocks and AJPS springs today, and has made a world of difference.
Still need to sort out the front shocks and springs, KBY excel G short strokes and AJPS 8kg springs are looking good.

One small problem is that the exhaust is now able to fowl the diff housing, shouldnt take long to fix.

I also finished the exhaust mounts and painted exhaust system wont last long till it burns off but the thought is there lol.

We have since fixed the exhaust clearance problem, I'll update the above pictures when I get the chance.

Started clearing up some of the wiring in the engine bay tonight just about ready to get stuck in to it with some solder and heat shrink.

Also picked up the bends for the intercooler plumbing.
Im using mildsteel 2" from the turbo to the cooler and 2.5" piping from the cooler to the throttle body.

I'll keep you all posted on my developments.

Should have the intercooler piping in the car soon.

Im going to buy a lift pump for the surge tank tomorrow, then I'll be able to start setting up my fuel system.

Im using a carby filter for the lift pump, A high flow low pressure lift pump, Ally sure tank, bosch 910 external fuel pump followed by a EFI fuel filter. I'll get some more photos up when its all installed.

Heres the surge tank Im using.

Alrighty then Ive been pottering about the last couple of days and nights, Aaron and I got the cooler piping worked out then I carried on and got it plumbed up pretty tight fit, hope I dont need to pull it appart any time soon.

Friday night was pretty cruisey talking cars, eating pizza <thanks Iain> and playing with the soldering iron with a bit of heat shrink we got a fare bit done just a matter of wiring up the fuel pumps and the coil packs now. Dont know why but the microtech showed an error.... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif could have beenthe fact it couldnt find some sensors...

Ive just ordered a set of KYB short stroke shocks and 8kg springs to match up the front of the car with the 6kg spring and KYB shocks in the rear. Should be nice and firm who knows the car might handle better....
<AJPS are the people to talk to>

Bit of a mess, didnt take to long to tidy up.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/103735.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/103737.jpg

This is the little bracket that I made up to support the intercooler and top radiator support.
Just a matter of bending the little tab on the bonnet catch.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/103738.jpg

I found some flat bar and bent up 2 supports for the bottom of the intercooler and welded them on, the IC now works as front radiator support that I had to do away with.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/103739.jpg

Cooler fitted with the new piping made from 2" and 2.5" mild steel. And some ebay special silicon and clamps.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/103740.jpg

Thanks to dane I can now secure my bonnet support thingy my plastic clip broke.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/103741.jpg

Here are the main components of my fuel system, I bought a facet pump to lift the fuel to the surge tank its a high flow (132lts per hour) low pressure (4-7 psi) pump should do the job. I havent bought my fuel lines and hose claps as yet.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/103742.jpg

The bosch 910 pump came with a banjo type fitting, making it a little re-strickted so I ventured into petra-jet
and got a bling bling barbed fitting worth about $7.

while I was there they explained that the banjo part contained a valve which helps to hold pressure in the fuel line. Without this it was going to take longer for the pump to prime the lines, so I got a 1 way valve that would help retain some pressure, pretty expensive at $40.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/103743.jpg

My pile of wheels and tyres, just some that have collected, I have a few more stashed away for a skid day.
A must for any hachi fan. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

No news isnt always good news so heres what Ive been up to.

I went into Enzed to talk turkey about a T piece and a braided line for the oil line to the turbo.

Ive ordered a 500mm 3/8 stainless steel teflon coated braided line with a banjo fitting, male & female couplings, male and female brass T piece. Pick it up tuesday only charged me $85!!! Bargin http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

I then went down the road to Purple Pig for 5/8 silicon hose, gave me a 600mm lenght for $17 <normally $10 per 100mm!!!> Dunno what I was doing but I was going off should have gone and bought a tattslotto ticket! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

Dxaqta: can u make those bar things with harness mounts[/b]

Could do but I would also run mounting points to the floor using the child re-straighnt points to bolt to.

A friend of mine has his harnesses teathered around the cross brace on the cage in his car.

Or you could run the harness over the brace and use the child restraighnt bolt holes.

Think this would be better than welding mounts to the bar, stronger anyway.
Those are options I was thinking of using. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

Looking really good, you're right into it. (I've bought from AJPS before too with good results.)

Are you converting the struts to coilovers?

Who are you using for engineering etc? I am yet to investigate this, have a 1GGTE *etc* http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif waiting to go into my RA65...

Stefan: I was going to go to fogaty automotive in hobart, Ive spoken with them there before and seem pretty good.

Progress has been slow over the past couple of weeks.

Ive installed my boost guage using the air vent in the dash surround will post up a pic later.

The oil feed and drain for the turbo have been fitted. The fuel system has been started.

Just a photo of the old front suspension with a spring compressor fitted.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/106667.jpg

The front strut installed with old suspension, now has 8kg springs and KYB shocks.

Ally surge tank and bosch 910 fuel pump, with 8mm efi line 400psi resistant <not finished>

3/8 Braided stainless steel line with teflon coating oil feed, 5/8 silicon hose gravity oil drain.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/106670.jpg

Brass T piece fitted to allow the use of the oil pressure sensor with the oil feed line.
I used locktight high temp teflon thread sealant, just a bit of security. <white stuff>
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/106671.jpg

The factory oil return into the sump was a banjo type and was going to restrick flow, it was replaced with a barbed fitting.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/106672.jpg

The car was looking a little bare and I needed some time to waste so I fitted some stickers.
Thanks to shamrock stickers and AJPS. All about street credit or an extra 50kw bowl of rice yo! lol
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/106673.jpg

I bought a steering wheel black seude with satin silver centre 350mm diameter with 90mm dish.

Its just a matter of getting hands on experience, I spent alot of time on the toyota forums toymods, twincam.org etc. just reading and seeing what others had done.

I then just took to seeing how things worked, messed around swaping some old K series motors around and then moved up to the 4a stuff, I have a few friends who are pretty mechanically minded so I lend them a hand and learn from them.

just get in there and give it a ago, pull it appart put it back together, Ive pulled down every car Ive owned except fot the celsior <way to space age> great way of learning about your car.

Today I went out and bought some bits and pieces for the water piping to the turbo.

This is a bit of a pain because all the water pipes run down the intake side of the motor, I have to get the water from one side of the motor to the other. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

So this is what I have come up with, Im going to keep it all neat and tidy by running the lines under the motor along the front of the engine cross memeber.

I went into tradelink and bought a length of heat treated copper piping that is nice and flexable and canbe easily bent by hand. I also bought some heater hose to suit.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/107996.jpg

Next I got a trusty pizza box <left over from previous night missions> and made a stensil of the crossmember to base the shape of the piping on.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/107997.jpg

Then I made up a jig <very basic one at that> to bend the pipe to the required shape.
I placed the cardboard on a piece of wood and used screws to hold the pipe at the correct bend points.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/107998.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/107999.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/108000.jpg

Lovely job!!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

Amazing what you can do with the crap laying around lol, I recommend using a wider bend point to aviod pinching the pipe, I gave each bend a tap with the hammer to take out the high spot and press out the pinch.

The water lines are connected to the turbo by banjo fittings, its a tight fit and the orignal pipes wont work correctly because the front housing of the turbo has been rotated. I'll have to make up some custom banjo fittings, should be able to use the left over copper pipe and siver solder or bronze them into the banjo ends.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/108002.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/108003.jpg

Heres a few random pics I took

The bonnet is the only part of the car has faded, the rest of the paint is spot on! Strange, I went to Ardans in moonah and had a litre of factory colour mixed, and grabbed a litre of clear while I was there.
Just a matter of finding the time to prep and spray it.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/108004.jpg

This is my little friend the green tree frog from the macca's rain forest plush toy collection, he lives in my ash tray and takes pride in looking after my random little clips, bolts and screws, he loves long drives on the country twisties, days at the track and big tail out skids. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/103740.jpg[/b]

may i ask why you went with larger intake piping vs smaller turbo piping on the IC? wouldn't the other way round be more beneficial. in terms of less pressure drop. i.e hot gas takes up more space (bigger piping), cold air takes up less space (smaller piping).

other wise great build up!

It was a fair bit more extensive damage than in first photo.
To repair the first dent I was quoted between $900-$1300 by body works.

I'm hoping to have my chassi straighten, the above repair, rear guards, small rust repairs and pannel work done ready for paint for about $1500
A friend of mine has just gone out on his own as a pannel better and will be using my car for promtion of what he can do.

Hope this helps a bit :2thumbs:
