View Full Version : Is modders becoming stupid?

I must get 1 thing off my chest first..... i was in a "RICE" store today http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif
--is was looking for some bumper paint ok??

and a young guy asked if they had a drift button?

and the guy said "hmm think so should be overthere"

the young guy returns saying "no, and asks where u can get on because he is sick of pulling up the handbrake to increase and correct his angle while his drifting by popping the clutch"

**sounded pretty much he was reading out of a book** http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

the guy "says i dont know" i dont even think he knew what he was talking about

all the while ive been listening in (while also standing at the counter)

i then suggest to the young guy to try a one of the PERFORMANCE /DRIFT stores in SA and he has a blank look on his face? (as in PERFORMANCE??)

i then tell him of a place near by that would definately have one and how much they would cost roughly but then explained about how u could do it on the cheap etc

i then ask hinm what car he has and he replies SILVIA and im like... ok then

LATER ON..

im in another less RICE more PERFORMANCE store wanting some bumper paint but they havnt got what i want left

so as im leaving,

and this guy walks up to the service person and asks "Will this fit my car?!?" holding a cheapo pod filter

the service guy was like "umm.. what car?"

"silvia?!?!" as if it wouldnt be any other

"umm i dont know have u measured it?"

"no?!?!?" then walks away with i look on his face as if the guy should know if it does

My question is are modders becoming slack?

because ..

"im sick of pulling up the handbrake when i drift" http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/blink.gif

"will this fit?" without even doing any measuring http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/5/4/536981.jpg

now i know, when i look at buying something i like to research it, to c if im getting the best thing 4 my money or ripped off

**no offense to silvia drivers**
it's just what happened, i think it's because they have no experience, but just know "words" because of major online forums.

I'm sure there was a time in all our lives that we knew diddly squat about cars......it's just scary that these kids are trying to drift around the place in silvias......

I started out in an automatic 120Y that would do 100kph if there was a tail wind or i was going down hill http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

It takes time to learn, i just hope they can learn without hurting anyone http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/5/4/536981.jpg

well i reckon these bogan modders are idiots, like they go out and buy somethin, lets say a reasonably cheap rwd car that has lots of parts, oh! a silvia! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif (not baggin em http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif) and they go out and get some cheap ass pod and think they get an extra 10kw or whatever, they they do some other gay mods, which makes the car look worse, but hey, its like what area 7 says : "nobody like a bogan"

haha my lil bro works at supa cheap and deals with stupid shit like this ALL DAY LONG.

i think generally the consumer is getting stupid (except hachi owners http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif) one of my jobs is in retail and the problem of stupidity is quickly growing.

i think we should remove all saftey labels and let the problem sort it self out! haha

I think its just a pre 3fast 3furious phase people are going through to try to cut down on the ammount of dumbness after the movie comes out.

Or maybe its just the direction drifting is going...

Some people are just into cars for different reasons.
There goal, put down there window, seat back, hang there arm out the window and play there music LOUD
All the while popping there hoods to show there mates there new Pod filter. "It looks sick, and you should feel how much quicker it is" yeh re....... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/fap.gif

Anyway people are into cars for different reasons. Only thing that pisses me off about some of them is the extra attention some people make the police take on our cars and scene.

I am afraid of where the drift scene is going. Not that commercilisation is neccesaraly a bad thing for a sport. But it does change it. I believe Fast and the furious 3, Tokyo Drift. Is going to speed up this process and the drift scene will suffer in some ways, and prosper in others.

By the way, im already sick of it, when people ask me about my car, and i talk to them about it, and what ive done, what sort of money different things cost. Then they go, "why didn't you get a silvia"
Because i didnt, i love my hachi. If i made the choice again, id make the same one.

I think that's worse, is.. damn idiot 'customer service' people!

i dunno if you guys have had anything like this, it just seems kind of related..

you go into a carparts store, and ask for an item, if they have it in stock and how much (this seems pretty simple to me)

Then on requesting the part, they give you a blank look.. with a bit of passive aggression..

like "you really want me to look this part up?"

Then they usually handball you to someone else, who's not 16 but a 26 year old bogan, who probably is responsible for the oil puddles in the carpark from his leaking 202 powered holden..

Who then gives you false/wrong information about the parts your after, and tells you they're really hard to get and blah blah fucking blah..

That's when i walk out of supercheap, and into a real car parts shop http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

SWC tools arn't too bad though, decent quality for the price.

But compred to the idiocy I've seen in the er, automotive cheap parts sales industry? The modders are INGENIOUS in comparison..

It's like

Modwanker A : "Hi I have a siliva S13 1988 and I would like to get.."
Shopwanker A : "Oh no I think you have a maxima"

^^ haha lol. i know what you mean, i dont know much about cars but i hate it when i reserch something and go to get the parts for what i need and they tell me im wrong, even though ive spent 3 - 4 hours on the net looking for what i need.

and jsut about all the time they are wrong.

sigh.

worst i've ever had, was when I wanted a top water outlet gasket.. and i thought that was the thermostat, i KNEW it was square, and he kept telling me I had no idea, I said I wasn't sure of the name but think it was thermostat (because of the water temp sensor) and yeh..

I ended up just walking out, going to Burson, getting some gasket glue, and it's still going strong!

I work in spare parts and I have to agree it does seem people are getting dumber. I've had some crackers, like one guy that had bought a nuked rb26 to put in his vl (as you do).

Bogan: "I'm gonna run it without an intercooler, it doesn't need one anyway, its just rice"
Me:"Dude, i think Nissan put intercoolers on there for a reason"
Bogan:"What would you know?"

And he was gone....

Then there are the guys that wanna put GReddy e'manages in there Daewoo's with no other mods (no, really)

Fact is there are stupid people everywhere, by the law of averages some have to end up in the car scene, bothering me, the dopey, goddamn....

sure can you see the big signs that say mothers day/easter/christmas? yeah thats not them, over to the left round the corner, left, right left right etc...down the road... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif

i was in a rice store oooohh a long while ago, anyway there were a group of 4-5 young guys 16-17ish, anyway, #1 was talking about how his parents were getting him a car, a n14 pulsar TI:
"its just like a SSS, its got an sr20 but like no wing..."
#2:" sik, so it will be like, fully stealth"
#1:"yeah its manual, and red, its sik.."
#1: yeah, my parent, they gonna like pay for some mods like an exhaust, and pod and suspension and stuff, i want a turbo but they wont pay for that..."

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wtf.gif

its about this time i said to #1 while he was pfaffing about with a pod filter het was gonna "get"...

you do realise that the Ti is nothing special, i may have an SR20, but you miss out on the viscous LSD, weight, sporty version of the engine and tune, not to mention sportier suspension as standard... but go ahead dont let that stop you...

i beleive when it comes to cars someones money is inversley proportional to their sense most of the time. anyone that has a silvia and is looking for performance parts for it (even if it is only a pod filter) but still doesnt have an idea about drifting obviously has more money then sense. maybe we should organise a buddy system or sumthing lol teach a wannabe drifter how shit's sposed to be done?

Ill sum it up..

Wankers get S13's because they are well known 'drift' cars..

People take huge loans to get in on the 'scene' so they are cool.

It makes people who really like Silvias look like ricers.. shame really.

Maybe it was too large a generalisation. The guys out on the track know what they're doing but me and a mate went silvia parts hunting for his car and a lot of the guys we saw knew jack shit. That's probably why we were looking at a written off car looking for parts.

what lots of these young kids dont seem to get is that silvias are a popular drift car because they're as cheap as shit and nobody cares that they wrecked a silvia cause theres 40 000 000 more where that came from. but yeah man i feel sorry for people like you who would be faced with hte problem of not wanting a car becaus dickheads have it (another example would be a commodore or a wrx?)

well what can we do differently to set us apart from the dickheads? i mean there was the black bonnets but even CIVICS have them now... everyone who knows their shit about drifting shud put a small decal on their left headlight http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif tell me what you's think?

The problem is if all the proper drifters put decals on their head light. I bet it wont take long for some ricers to see all the drifters have these stickers and will copy it , and it will no longer be original or mean anything.

I think what sets ae86 owners apart is they actually like cars and want to learn about them, they dont drive them to look cool. I think on most other forums if you said put cams/change timing belt on a rotor they wouldnt realise that rotors arent like that. But people who are pasionate and want to learn things about interesting motors/cars/enthusiasts do.

Also with cars like sil's and skylines they can just buy numerous off the shelf parts, they dont need to look at how things work etc, ot do things themselves...

well i guess they'd probably get onto it... lol why cant we get ourselves like some monogram stickers or authenticity. i totally aggree wit you. i mean sprinters have a WAY lower level of dickheads cuz anything you do to them doesnt really come off the shelf, they're hard to slide, comparitively slow and a general pain in the arse to modify sometimes. kinda a good sorta filter really. i mean if ur gunna put the time n effort into urs then u deserve to be driving it if not then go buy a silvia or sumin where u can bolt EVERYTHING on...

P.S. initial d kinda ruined it tho didnt it...good thing its not widely available in australia yet...

darkon
16th May 2006, 12:56 AM
what i meant by hard to slide is that alot of people find it hard to drift underpowered cars properly
