flared my rear gaurds today, and after a few bashes found this

looks like it got fixed and bogged up a while ago, the other side was the same not quite as bad.
to fix it this time were goin to cut all of it out and weld in some new peices.
also have to fibre glass up the gap that had to be cut on the inner guard, the outer wouldnt flare out with it connected.
so now ive got even more things to do before this fridays wild card night,
any way atleast i can fit these on the rear aswell now.

it got 71KW ages ago with shit restrictive exhaust, and no thermostat so never ran at proper operating temp. and because of that wouldnt engage vvt, fixed it up and it makes alot more midrange torque.
thermostat is a must for silver tops with stock ECU.

i had rust in the exact same area...lol...bloody dodgy fixes!

People just fuckin RATE fibreglass...

i dont know about dodgy. people just work with what theyve got. its just a corolla after all. youre car is rusty, you cant really afford a full restoration(you drive a corolla after all), you fix it as best you can.

that is a pretty complex area to fix with steel, and thats if you have a MIG. my car has much worse rust in the guards, which had already been repaired using steel. from what i can tell they made a pretty serious attempt at doing the job right, but still without meticulously cleaning and garaging, it will always come back.

BTW nice steering at the last DD, i need to get out there more often.

ae86 slide
8th June 2006, 08:52 AM
I agree completly, it was a very neat bog job, so neat i had no idea it was there before bashing, but as slydar said because it did not get meticulously cleaned last fixup it has creeped back.
also this fri drift night is looking a bit unachievable, I still have massive holes in my inner guards, and only have 1 night to get em fixed.

It was a simple half hour job straight bolt in, and makes a huge difference

heres the different arms (yet a again sorry for the shit quality)

As you can see there is a big difference in length, and it didnt make the steering that heavy at all.

heres some before and after shots,

After

pictures are crap but you get the idea.
saved me from spinning a few times on fri night and for some reason made the car feel more responsive.

Ill post up some pics of my rear inner guards with new metal welded in, wen i can be bothered

and heres a pic from wen it was all clean and shinney before i started bashing the shit out of the guards

I have beeen thinking of doing this but i dont want to get them in only to find out that the damn things rub like a horny kiddy fiddler.

ae86 slide
13th June 2006, 03:54 PM
um yeah, my guards have been flared so theres no drama there, but i would say that if your wheels fit fine ATM they should not rub after putting power steering arms in,

well its time for an update since ive bought some new stuff.

these arrived the other day, i bought them about 3 months ago before i got the meshies, so now im considering selling the meshies again and going back to 14's.

before

after

took a shit load of paint stripper and even more polishing, with more to come, but
under all that black shit, are some nice 14x8 -22 XR4's

also in the process of putting in my new razorback ECU, had a drama yesterday installing it, the ECU was faulty and while we were doing the setup with the ignition on it was running the injectors full time,
so my motor completly filled with fuel (getting it out was funny) and overflowed all over the ground, should have a replacment one in soon.

heres how ive got the hand contoller set up.

who needs a speedo

hope to have my new exhaust on next week and trumpets aswell.
and im about to start searching for some 4.3 diff gears

also about to setup my cold air induction, using a leaf catcher and flexi alloy piping,
will do a write up on how i did it once its done.

respect, iiiiaaaggghtttt!

finally finished polishing these fucking longchamps,
note to everyone, paint stripper gets paint off great but also chews into alloy, which takes hours of buffing and polishing to shine up.

heres some before and after shots

this is how they looked after the paint stripper.

i started off using 1200 wet and dry to hack through the top layer of haze, but that was taking forever so i stepped it up and bought an alloy restoration kit from bunnings, came with buffing wheels and different compounts of polish, ones a really harsh one to remove scratches ect and the final one a polish for that mirror finish.

this is them now

and i have decided these will be my drift rims, they make a total of 5 sets to drift on, plus my 4 SSR's and will shortly have another set of 15x7.5-5 reverse meshes to drift on.
Im becoming a rim whore and i love it.

And so, the great saga ends for this particular Ae86.
We the Midnight Mechanics bid fare well, and would hope that it goes on to greater and better things. However we have a suspicion it will be around a tree within a month or freeze over due to lack of clutch love.
Anyway, we decided to get some pictures of the three of our cars on a closed road(Cass couldnt make it due to his car being unrego'd http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif ).
Was pretty cool, QT were just like 'oh yeah we know the midnight mechanics, we'll just close of this section of the road..' but yea thats besides the point.
Theres lots of pics so if you have 56k you shouldnt even be reading this, click that backwards button on the internet browser... go on, go!

Why are you still here?

oh right..

Heres the pictures

Here jase gives a visual rating to his personal opinion of the two cars, i know he loves my car tho... he even decided to steal it and take it for a drive. I was driving his heap around tho.

Jason also decided to show us his awesome modeling skills, we know understand why he is going to thailand...

The cops saw are Midnight Mechanics stickers and realised we were cutting sick in some way or another. Unfortunately it meant Jason and Jason had to be searched...
I just told em who i was and what i drove and they were like, yeah he's cool dont worry bout him.

We got off the hook easy due to the respect, so continued with the pictures

And so sadly this car leaves Jasons possesion tomorrow, and we lose a member for several months. I would have to say that this is definately one of this hottest Ae86's in Austrailia at this current time, and very much one of the hottest trueno's i have ever seen.
So, good luckjase and hope you can build Thai bars as good as hachis

yeah i installed it myself, as far as angles go its really just trial and error, obviously tilt it forward (front of diff down), just keep adjusting it down untill its slide happy enough.
