start the right up of my new ride. it's a 1 owner jobbie, still done 200,000klms but is in good nick, luckily enough to have zero rust. has had a repair in the bottom corner of the hatch but thats about it. has normal carpark dents and a couple in the roof, should be able to pop most out but meh probably never do it.

was going to do another ke70 using most of the parts from my carina project which has since been scrapped. this 86 came up when i was lucky enough to have some cash and the rest is history. no specs yet as it is bog stock, except for some oh my god JDM stylez 13inch cross fever racing rims which have already been sold.

getting s13 coilovered tomorrow, and some TRD stuff thrown in the rear + rims, should be a different car in 24 hours.

yeah thats what i thought! i put them on my ke70 and at the rear the guards were resting on the tyres and at the front they hung out the guards a good 15 to 20mm!! my old 15x7 =12 superlites used to sit in the rears just and flush with the fronts!!

Carina was going to cost me too much to do and i wasn't completely happy with it, i like the small cars, however the new owner is building it up so all is not lost!

Slammed on those rims would be nice!

Gilly
23rd June 2006, 10:00 AM
yeah, unfortunately 13's won't fit over my CA18 brakes, prefer $$ anyway, the way i see it it means i paid less for the car if i sell shit off it i don't need.

as we speak the car has been slammed, s13 coilovers have been fitted to the front with no major hassles at all, just had to change the rack ends, something i hadn't considered.

have no rear springs at the moment thought i had some that would fit but was wrong. just need to find out what rate the fronts are so i can choose some suitable rears.

should get my rims and tyres back today 4 brand new nankangs $350 (through a hook up though) then i can get out the "ghetto garage" guard roller and do some flaring.

pics up tomorrow hopefully.

S13 Kei office coilovers with SR20 brakes, using what i've been told is a jzx81?? LCA, it's longer like a sigma arm but because of the hub and steering knuckle arrangement the strut isn't put on a crazy angle like 86 struts, which in turn gives you more camber. basically get the track advantage of longer arms without the negative camber.

Lmao. That's hilarious. Why am I the only person that will laugh at any animal? On the ski trip I laughed for half an hour on the bus because I thought the cows would be snowed on.

Car's looking hot now man.

slide86
26th June 2006, 06:18 PM
cool.
those coilovers are worth a pretty penny.
i should have pulled them out and put mine in the carina b4 it sold lol
has adam got the semi's now?
or have u given them back to john urself

Gilly
26th June 2006, 06:47 PM
gave them back to John this very morning, Adam gave some "tyres" to replace the semi's as we had arranged however i got home to find 2 delaminating 195/60's and 2 bridgestones that had nails in them, need less to say i didn't use them, he can get in touch with me to get his rims back i'm sure as hell not chasing him.

John was cool about it.

picked up a good set of sr brakes off him for $80! near new pads and rotors, complete with hub assembly, i was pretty chuffed. needed rotors badly

daz86
26th June 2006, 06:57 PM
yeh the superlow kingsprings that replaced them is a bit of a let down hahaha sprinter looks sick cant wait to see you go now you have a garage back

slide86
26th June 2006, 07:15 PM
bahahahaha wtf thats typical.

yeah those rotor's where pretty stuffed.

which rims are you talking about?
the ssr's are yours arnt they?

Gilly
26th June 2006, 09:21 PM
yeah meshies are mine, the rims that had my "replacement tyres" on them, nothing flash 2 silvia stockers and some 6 spoke stockers of some other nissan. Meshies FTW!!!! they fill the guards sweet, pretty close to the fronts but i can get one finger between tyre and guard now i've carried out my ghetto spec guard rolling.

removed all interior trims today, no real reason just looking for rust, still haven't found any.

should get my dished steerer and 100mm bosskit tomorrow or could even be waiting for me when i get home from work today. probably won't end up using both but boss kit was cheap as so i gots it anyway.

unfortunately car has been raised a little at the front (10mm, hardly noticable) just so i can run a little less neg camber, at the height it was before the tyres touched guards unless ridiculous camber was applied.

OBE353
11th July 2006, 07:13 PM
sounds the goods, but none of the pics r working for me?? i would like to see them too http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/ohmy.gif

yeah i'm getting that this arvo as well, no pics are working, snap out of it you shite pc!!!!!!!!!!!

Gilly
12th July 2006, 05:15 PM
all interior trims, carpet and hoodlining have been removed. i now just have a dash and door trims thats it! started to chip of sound deadening, then remembered you can do it with dry ice in like 1 hour so i'm going to look into that instead. amazing how much dust and s*** is behind all the trims, i wiped it all down with hot soapy water and it come up a treat, also found $7.35, hair clips and a tampon, hooray!!

also got my dished SAAS wheel today, measured it up and it has 70mm offset, so i got heaps of room between the wheel and indicator stalk, tiny little bastard 300mm, looks old skool cool!

also my cage has arrived, i may go get it tomorrow but probably not seeing my diff is being freighted by the same company and should be arriving within the next couple of days, can't be arsed borrowing the old mans ute twice!!

[MET]
12th July 2006, 06:20 PM
Whats the deal with the sound deadening on the floor why remove it? seems like a lot of work for such a minimal gain in weight and increase excess road noise or are there other advantages?

Gilly
12th July 2006, 06:32 PM
no real advantages at all!!!! your right it weighs next to nothing, is a bitch to get off and road noise is increased. my carpets rubbish and i love a gutted hachi with painted floors!!! so i guess its just the racer boy wank factor.

just got a 19row HKS oil cooler kit and filter relocator with sexy braided hoses and earl's style fittings for $250 off ns.com no more front grill for me! (for those of you playing at home, sr and ca oil cooler kits bolt up to 4AGE's) wont be fitting it to the 4AC however!! it can just sit in the shed and collect dust like my other 4AGE parts. really need to gets me a motor, i'l advertise the escort me thinks.

R1CHYY
14th July 2006, 10:46 PM
sorry about today dave!! if ya decide to sell the escort i might have a friend interested, he is just in the process of selling his current car at the moment, so give me a buzz if ya make up ur mind.

Gilly
15th July 2006, 05:50 AM
^^^ don't worry about yesterday!! i can't believe you slept through your dog barking! escort is 100% definately for sale!! i have run out of cash for the sprinter, good news being i only need a motor, loom and ecu plus some other small bits to finish it off.

my 100mm bosskit (85mm actually!!) arrived yesterday puts the stering wheell in a good spot. also picked up my cage and have that sitting in place, it's doing its best to fill the void behind the seats! i will later being investing in a rear shock tower brace and one of the between seat braces with the harness mounts so that should help more and fill the gap!

i know for a fact my diff was picked up yesterday by my courier and it will be arriving on monday, hoorah!!

ES86 on this forum (used)

it's official i've run out of cash, spent my last $40 yesterday on swaybar mounts from AJPS. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

gives me chance to do all the free stuff, strip sound deadening, paint floor, paint cage, remove pin striping etc

Also have to put my diff together, i was going to just slap it all together but i've decided i'll paint it up all pretty like, get some new shoes and cylinders. interestingly enough the diff is using RA40 axles, i'll get some pics and measurements happening but yeah i was surprised. also uses RA40 brakes which appear to be larger but i'm yet to confirm this.

was a bit confused as to the branding of my centre as i couldn't find any pics on the net that matched up with what i had, all the cusco housings had a smooth finish whereas mine has a rough cast finish.

i did a search of other brands and found out i actually have a TRD 2 Way. i'm happy as long is its an aftermarket decent LSD which it is. just glad i could identify it before i put it in otherwise i'd always be kicking myself for not checking.

started stripping sound deadening and taking off pinstriping. its one of those jobs where you don't know why you started doing it until you've finished.

car is back to homo spec (full interior minimal camber) for upcoming roadworthy and rego.

will stay that way until i do the engine conversion, then i'll put all the hot parts in at once.

also swapping to Ca brakes so i don't have to change master 's and can run smaller wheels.

in the garage, i'd too much shit from the boys at work if i put it in now with the 4ac, i cop enough flak as it is from them!!

interesting side effect of the rear coilovers, no more diff noise, it has seriously been reduced by half. my theory is now the springs aren't located in the spring seat, noise isn't transfered through the spring into the body. i never use the rubber spring insulators, they rob you of precious height http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif , the nolathane bushes in the coilies stop noise transfer.

i've decided to keep the current wheels and just go for the extreme ride height. at that height the wheels fill the rolled guards fine about 5mm from guard to tyre, so it rarely scrubs.

something is hitting the floor though!! exhaust is my bet. may adjust shock settings later today, i have them set on 5 which is good best part is to have a play around is a matter of reaching under the car and turning the knob soooooo easy. when i got them they were set to 8 on the LHR and 6 on the RHR (QR right hand corners mostly http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/blink.gif ) i'm dailying this thing though which is a bit tough on the body!

zero mods, came out of a dedicated track car that gets given a hell hiding with no sign of failure, and they've been in there a while. have been told by an extremely reliable source you can run them without mods, this is the case for a lot of 86's in the motherland that use them with out failure. only snapped mount was shane bingham's car apparantly and that was under extraordinary circumstances (extreme driving that my car will not see, i'll stick to bitumen thanks!)

i will be keeping an eye on it though, just to be safe, first sign will be bending lower shock mounts.

not worried about the top mounting point at all.

it's all in the ride height, rim offset and some part removal (see below) you slam anything it'l look cool. my old KE70 was low (just ask Richy) had 13's so didn't appear slammed, but speed bumps tell you otherwise. could fit a coke between the exhaust tip and the ground, if it was on it' side........

Gilly's guide to the massif Phatness

1. remove all door moulds
2. remove pin striping!! if you have it
3. remove rear wiper
4. remove aerial, i put mine under the dash and it works alright.
5. lower it enough so it just sits off the ground (i love height adjustable coilovers, front and rear, aaaahh luxury)
6. don't have to be pretty just fill the guards. my rear guards are rolled only and there is a 10mm gap between tyre sidewall and guard. front track is pumped out due to s13 coilovers so front guards are well filled, some to be proper flared.

basically pull shit off, beware you will have marks where the door moulds come off and in most cases the paint will be in better condition as it has never seen the sun. not overly noticable until you get close, but then you see all the dings and scratches as well http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif. good from far, far from good. just admire from a distance......

just realised those photo's of the 70 are before it had Gillly spec superlows, the one with the XR4's on it (Richy spec, new owner) that's when it was really low, well actually still is.

Bustin_86
21st September 2006, 03:29 PM
LOL, thanks for the tips man, since im restoring my 86 im fucking off certaint things like aerial etc so hopefully it will be nice and clean, and its already hell low as well lol.

Yeah i can certainly testify to how low the 70 is, i drove it, had so much gun, had serious trouble negotiating things such as those dumb gutters that queensland streets have everywhere... I think i kind of made some marks on the fart can on it lol http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Might order a lower ride height when i get my 8 and 6 springs...

set as background.

coolies

looks like i'm headed straight for the gutter!!

CA brakes went on today. feel good. don't have the stopping power the SR brakes had, they do however bite heaps harder, so i guess the master cylinder difference was an issue, pedals higher too. the SR brakes washed off a lot of speed without being overly violent whereas the CA brakes bite harder initially but take that little bitter longer to pull up. no big deal just need to adjust driving style to suit. i'll get use to it and won't notice any difference!!

also wound in some castor (maxed out) and modded guards to suit, just had to remove the screw that holds the bumper to the guard, fold the guard lip back and cut out the mount tab on the front bar. will need some zip tie front bar to guard action.

CA brakes rock. drove our camry all weekend then drove the sprinter today to work and yeah you don't realise how kick ass they are until you drive an underbraked car.

so yeah that's it Ca brakes rock.

might do some fun stuff this week, assemble my LSD and modify my seat rails so i can put my Cobra fixed back seat in. the more i learn about the limits handling wise the more i find myself sitting on the armrest or centre console!

i have abride bottom mount passenger rail from an *A6* you just have to cut 3 mounts, swap the rears over and reduce the distance between them width wise for it to work. my neighbour loves the welder so sounds like a job for him.

got a loom today!! hoorah!!

JDM or AE82 engine loom, 14 pin plug modded to suit ADM, minimal fuss to install. going to get Ant an Dimitri to have a look at it anyway, make sure it's all there. looks like it is has the 14 pin plug all ready to go just need to make sure i know what gets wired in to where.

also came with possibly a JDM ECU i'll have to check the numbers when i get home, i already have one so this one will be up for grabs if anyone is interested.

4AGE conversion not far off now, just have to organise some time off work.

EDIT: got home and had a good look at the loom, looks like modded AE82 could be JDM!?!?!?! hard to tell (i don't do wiring). i only need to wire in 4 wires and it shall be a goer!! just a few power signals (Start, ign) i'm psyched!!

update:

T series and TRD 2 Way fitted today.

neighbour welded my swaybar mounts on this morning, fitted carrier etc painted it all up pretty like, fitted new shoes and cylinders, also got new carrier to housing nuts and axle retainer bolts as Tye must still have the originals http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

drives fine but something is touching and banging and crashing around, think the exhaust is permanantly resting on the diff now!!

also got a fixed back fibregass seat and will probably knocking up a rail tomorrow.

also have set of 15 x 8 -4 superlites coming soon, ordered them unpainted and polished just prepped, so i can paint the whole rim colour of my choice.

biggo
11th October 2006, 11:10 PM
that noise is probably the exhaust sitting on the pan hard rod. happens alot apparently on low cars......like mine http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

i like the sound of some matching rims, bit of a change from the hordes hmm. Did you get a set of -4's?

Gilly
11th October 2006, 11:12 PM
yeah neg 4's

thought i'd paint the whole rim black, so they are a bit different.

sussing out the noise tomorrow, just went for a quick drive when i finished it off as i had to go to work = ghey

Gilly
12th October 2006, 12:54 PM
car was too low, exhaust was constantly resting on the diff, so that was the noise. raised the back end about an inch and all noise is gone, plus the heights are pretty even front to rear now so it looks right now.

2 way is nice and quiet, pretty aggressive though, my old KAAZ never chattereed and chirrped but this one does so it's supertight. has further improved the feeling in the rear of the car, doesn't feel as loose now and has added a neutral feel to the car wheras before it felt very taily. my guess is that was due to the decent track increase at the front using s13 stuff and 7.5 0 offset meshies where the back was stock track and positive offset 7's. so yeah the LSD has cancelled that out, may upgrade to bigger swaybars and i'll be done suspenson wise.

got some more recent pics too

yeah nuh..... stock as JDM 16v. was going to go smallport with a little work hoping to beat the power my old 20v made, but as Richy just informed us it made 83.6kw at the wheels so still prolly would ave been under.

nice one Richy, much different after the tune?

changing diff oil asap, only had some generic 85/140 in the garage so the diffs a little (lot) noisey when its hot. had the same trouble with my KAAZ when i first fitted it. this time going to be running penrite 10 10ths as it is the shiz, if need be after that i will add "kick ass stinks more than diff oil" holden LSD friction modifier. we ran it in heaps of SS diffs that had chatter from factory, shut them up quick smart.

Honestly i only had time to drive it home from the workshop, went around some tricky bends on the way home and thats about it. So i havnt really had a chance to notice anything different, but either way it should be around the same.

The tune was mostly based on just replacing an O2 sensor which was fukd, so it runs a little leaner now. According to the graph there is a bit of an improvment in power mostly down low, higher revs there is little to no difference.

well as some of you know, i had some diff issues on the cruise the other day. started knocking and banging whenever it got hot and was hell bad in carparks and other slow speed situations.

started to get worse through the start of Tambo. people pulled over for another chat, we decided to just keep going hard with no traffic and if it shat itself someone would find us.

anyway didn't shit itself. pulled it apart today and Hen's advice was correct the axles were too long. had already ground 2 mm off the ends from rubbing together!!! ground another 3mm off each axle to make 5mm. then filed the ends to make it easier to install and not look as dodge.

threw it all back together this arvo, went for a quick drive and all is good so far. got a decent drive lined up tomorrow but confident all is well.

got some pics of the munted axles and a healthy one to show the difference plus my end result after filling and grinding.

un fortunately the car is spending a lot of time like this at the moment!! note there is no jack under the rear, that is the full extended height of the rear coilovers. edit: there is a jack under the car obviously!! but it's not holding the car up.

new rims look shit, not overly happy with them, meh. also had a bitch of a time getting someone to fit 195/50 tyres on them,. found some one to do it and the put 3 directional tyres on right and 1 on wrong of course, so thats going back tomorrow to be fixed.

the rims came unpainted so they copped the supercheap Matt black in a can treatment. having a shit of a time flaring the rear guards as i refuse to raise the car!! fronts fit awesome only drama being i have to run at max neg camber to get them under the guards

15x8 -4mm + 30mm track increase due to S13 stuff = effectively like running a -34mm 8 innch rim on stock 86 gear, looks good though!!

buying a panel better kit with dolly's and shit tomorrow. didn't want to but it seems unavoidable, i will be bogging the guards and attempting to find a spray can clour match.

I can see Im going to have some dramas then when my new rims arrive......
I so wish they were flared when I got it reprayed..... didnt have time though... the gaurds are full of bog now so attempting to flare them by hand will see them in a mess.... think its gona be bolt ons FTW and just chop some of the gaurd off......

Gilly
9th November 2006, 10:12 PM
Jez, i'll probably get used to them, to keep costs down i got them to suppy mine unpainted and i just matt blacked them. tyre shop did there best to scratch it all off for me!! actually look a little like Watanabe's now, if you close one eye, stand on your head and look from say 50 metres away.

BlueAE86, from memory it may actually be a Macair one, i found it in our bagroom though!!! gotta count for something!! it was a ummm safety hazard someone could've tripped over it so i thought it best i remove it from the area.....

haven't actually driven on the wheels yet (rear guards resting on tyres) but i can see castor needs to be pulled back, or bumpers trimmed. also may have a height issue, the tyre to guard clearance at the front is tight. i'm quietly confident i'll fit them at the back.

Niz, with bolt ons and guard trimmage they will work fine (assuming you are talking about the 0 offset 8's) i just don't want (no $$) to go bolt ons, not a real big fan of them anyway.

DRFT - 86
10th November 2006, 02:29 AM
yeh Im not not the biggest fan off bolt-ons either..... but just something smallish n smooth with around 25-30mm extra width to clear (yes correct) 0 offset 8's......... Ive seen 1 or 2 designs I dont mind........ I'll make the rims fir non the less............ 999 automotive do a set of bolt-ons for $160...... dont know what the quality is like though.....

ummm getting bolt ons.

drove the car today for an extended period of time, and don't like it. running max camber has made the front end hell twitchy and i don't have the front end grip i used to have due to there not being as much tyre on the road + i have not such a big track difference front to rear as before.

in order to run less camber i need to raise the car at the front, which means i have to raise the rear to level it out.

NOT HAPPENING

J blood knock off bolt on flares look the go. i remember seeing them on Henry's 86 (silent drifter) a while back and they look really nice, ithink option 1's old blue hachi uses them too. should look a little neater than mismatched paint on the flared sections. just cut out the guards as much as needed and the flares hide all the nastiness.

aiming to get them early next week if in stock as the guards at present are disgusting, all bent up out of the way to stop them touching the tyres

cars already been keyed.

never getting a respray, if it doesn't make the car go faster, handle better or make it more reliable it doesn't happen.

smooth paint reduces drag.

there.... now go get 'er painted. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

Hey Gilly,

I am going down the bolt on route also, have you got some pics or links to the said flares? Are they bolt on front and rears or entire guards...? ANy idea on the flare amount?

Keen as mate.

$160 through 999 automotive ,as Niz said earlier don't know about the quality but i'm hoping to check them out earlier in the week.

the coupe gives you an idea of how wide they are. i'll be painting mine as close as i can get to body colour, like on Henry's old car (yellow one)

The flared out section of the rear guards will be cut off and the 2 skins rejoined back together when the bolt ons are fitted. at present you drive over an ant and the tyres mash the guards. you can see where some kind sir decided to run a key down the side or the car. and you can see my "proudly ADM" bear...........

want less camber (back to -2* need to do something about the bumper touching rims too.......

photos aren't the best sorry. click on them and you can enlarge them to full size which is a bit better. i'm actually happy with the wheels now.

not getting 999 flares now as they have none in stock. found some through another source though, hopefully fitting them up tomorrow

red.

unfortunately due to my limited (no) metal working skills, bolt on's for me are a must, guards would need a proper flare and the rear quarters resprayed, which is an expense i can't justify.

How much camber was it running?

I have what looks like similar track f&r to you, and the car doesnt understeer at all, with -3.5 on the front, pretty normal castor.

I'm suffering for rear end grip (i think the springs are too hard). Running stock sways. What spring rates are you using the back?

8kg fronts, 7kg rears, stock sways, castor maxed out, don't know the camber actual degrees at a guess between 3.5 and 4.5.

i should've worded it better, it's not full blown tyre screaming understeer. it just has more under steer than it did before, i would probably get used to it after a weeks driving and adjust driving style to suit i spose. its moreso the twitchiness that shits me, the front wheels grab a rut in the road and just follow it.

i think the biggest contributing factor has been due to the fact my front and rear wheels are the same width and offset now whereas before i had 0 offset 7.5's on the front (with S13 track) and rears were pos offset 7's. no i have the same rims front to rear the awsesome turn in has been reduced a tad.

no biggie, like i said give it a week and i will have forgotten all about it!!

got my $25 dollar pair of flarzorz!!! just need to clean them up a little and hack out my guards to fit them up. (flares were a private sale you can not buy flares anywhere for $25, so don't ask........)

also got a new seat and rail which is pretty sweet, sits very low on the highest setting so i'm pretty happy with that. so now i have 3 seats one has become a dog bed, one is in the car and one is for sale with my almost finished rail.

progress is unfortunately slow due to a nasty foot injury a few days ago barefoot + guttering = 12cm gash from toe over ball of foot bullshit deep and really hurt!!! walking has become quite the chore, so yeah off work but not doing much, just hoping everything heals in time for december 4th when the conversion begins.

should rename this thread "Ke70 lovers come out of the closet'

just to clear things up, i do like sprinters, very much so. i see shit 70's and 86's all the time but i see hot ones too, all depends whats been done. mine could not sell when i put it on the market and it would be no great loss to me. i'm just keen for another KE70 build, its pretty much planned (some things aren't finalised, engine mainly, have to see how much $$ i have)

be warned too much KE70 love may cause unrest in the community and you may be banished to rollaclub (not that there is anything wrong with rollaclub)

for got to mention picked up my cage and fitted it yesterday. was a bit of bitch to fit, but that was mainly due to the QLD transport spec rollcage padding that is pretty thick and made the cage quite cumbersome and therefore difficult to get in as it is very close to the pillars and roof areas. had to remove my interior light and the brace that it attaches to so the main hoop would fit, also had to remove my sunvisors as there is a bar that joins at the a pillars which sits where the visors do. i used the proper padding on the front half of the cage and in the rear section i just used the padding that was on the cage originally (thin foam) but i doubled it up so it was not too thin. no real reason to pad the rear it just looked weird having the front done and not the back.

car feels the same no magical massive handling difference!!! merely there for my peace of mind. mind you the 4AC of increasingly poor health doesn't exactly test the chassis http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

day one. started at lunch time (first day of holidays, had to sleep in http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif )

motor and box are out.
front guards have been bogged, need finishing tomorrow
need to pick up flywheel from machinist so i can drop the motor in
made some new braided hoses for the oil cooler (proper ones not supercheap ones. and its a shit job)

found a crack in the left hand strut tower, where the old car alarm was mounted, it had been covered with some sort of hard sealant. scraped the sealant off and gave it a bit of a hit with a hammer to check the strength and.......

thats after we cleaned it up a bit so we could weld a new panel in. had to use a Arc welder as its all we had available (it's my neighbours Arc welder and garage too!! very generous) blew heaps of holes in the surprising ly thin steel they use in the strut towers. he ended up welding a new section inside the strut tower. pretty big piece too, covers more than the affected area. we'll clean it up with bog and stuff tomorrow, i don't want it to stick out like dogs balls, to be honest i don't really care but he is pretty keen for it to be nice and neat.

not much really went right today, thought i had a block and tackle organised but apparantly was mistaken. lucky Jimmy (neighbour) is a bit on the smart side.....

winch shat itself though so to let the engine down you have to drive the jeep forwards, still works in reverse though so we can still lift the 16v up and just drive forward again to lower it in. its dodge but it works!!

don't know what time i'll get my flywheel tomorrow. no big deal as the front guards still need to be finished along with the strut tower repair, doing the rear flare and stuff this week too. will probably repain the bay while the engines out, have to respray the section surrounding the tower anyway plus paint has been stripped off the drivers rail from a master cylinder leak.

its all good fun

day 2

today Jimmy finished the strut tower repair, which has come up really good. we thought we found the perfect paint in a can match, but were sadly mistaken. after some umming and aahing it was decided to paint the whole bay matt black. have done it before and it looks pretty good, hides alot of hoses and harnesses, plus makes any bling bits stand out more http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

also jimmy finished the guards and they got painted up as well. i painted the sills body colour as the black strip has always shit me. also now it will look a little lower again http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif doesn't need it but meh. guards are not perfect, i honestly don't care as i can't do any metal work at all and am thankful for whatever gets done really, still looks better than bashout guards. i think Jimmy was a little disappointed though, couldn't tell they were ordinary until the colour went on. but yeah i don't care they look better than before.

rear flares have been trimmed up, one has been sprayed already the other just needs a little bog loving to fill some little imperfections, no big deal really.

dummy fitted the right hand rear and it 's going to look pretty good, they aren't overly flexy so there are a few tiny gaps, 2 flares for $25 still the best money i ever spent!!!! the guards themselves obviously had to be cut up to fit the flares and rims, the outer skin was cut up about 5cm and slits were cut in the inner guard, this was then folded out wards and over the outer guard then riveted together to put some strength back into the rear quarter. then sealant was applied over the new seams to prevent water getting sprayed up through the gaps in the guards so it won't prematurely rust out.

Day 3

no engine stuff today just plodded around really, wasn't a very productive day http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

painted sills
cut the exhaust out (over diff, was not going to drop the diff out to remove it)
mounted the oil cooler and dummied up the relocator
bolted in the rear half of the cage (previously had only done front half as i new wheels were coming off this week)
dummied up my battery relocation so i could make sure i had enoguh cable, scored an isolator switch off Jimmy as well, schweet.
thought it was best i clean all the mud off my coilovers and front end after the rally excursion i unintentionally took a few weeks ago. cleaned whole front end and matt blacked the inner guards and in behind the bumper and headlights, again hides alot of stuff like harnesses and plugs etc.
also painted the front brakes seeing as with the superlites you could see them and they aren't pretty that nice rusty brown colour...

picked up the flywheel this arvo. engine goes in tomorrow morning.

i used a shockie bush between the cooler brackets and the crossmember i made. i didn't want it mounted solid, want to have a little insulation so it doesn't work itself loose or even worse the fittings work loose due to shock and vibration.

you can sort of see whats happening here. making a plate to cover the battery tray, it will extend out towards the strut tower a bit to mount the relocator kit, i want it close the the block so there is enough"give " in the hoses, i don't want them tight ever. also moving the washer bottle and overflow to the passenger side where the battery was as the battery is going in the boot. that side of the bay is already busy with the fuse box and coil etc, also some of the harness will still be there. it will leave the right hand side nice and open, plus i think my pod will sit pretty much where the washer bottle normally would sit.

NS.com

came off an SR, i think its pretty well known now that SR and CA kits fit 4A's

$250. uses HKS relocator, Earls fittings, braided hoses (obviously) and what looks to me like a Toyota trans cooler (big one) filter elocator is thermostatic too so no oil flow through the cooler until oil temps reach 80*c i think, can't remember right now it's stamped in the thermostat though.

came with one braided hose and one non pretty black oil hose. they were so long though i could cut the long braided one in half and make 2 the right lenght for my application. SCORE
