hey all, i picked up a fired extinguisher last week that i want to bolt onto a quick to reach area incase the unwanted should happen at any time.

Has anyone done this?

my thought to do is to bolt the bracket on the passanger side gearbox firewall

Good or bad idea?
where have you guys bolted these?
and how would i go about drilling etc to bolt the thing down?

any one that can help us out with some info would be great

Thanks

I bolted mine to the passenger side of the gearbox housing thingy as you said, its easily reachable. I just belted same stainless screws in, no probs

put mine just in front of my seat on the floor. easy to reach with harness on and doesn't get in the way

I just screwed the bracket to the tunnel, probly not CAMS approved but im no mark skaife anyway. You wont get a spanner on it in the tunnel without droping the box

i had mine ziptied to the lower glovebox bracket, seemed to work ok.

when i get a bucket seat in i will mount it to the front of that i think.

Just made sure it was gonna be out of the way of the seat movement and peoples legs, and it is.

oh and as a guide, it should be mounted so you can reach it from the drivers seat with your harness/seat belt on. the most important part is to put yourself out when you catch on fire.

Just a tip if you want to run the car in a CAMS event the extinguisher needs a metal bracket with 2 metal straps, and it has to be less then 3 years old. I have mine mounted the the passenger gearbox tunnel like Rallystanza, I have seen them mounted behind the passenger seat on the floor, and behind the seats on top of the tunnel like RobAE86. I chose passenger tunnel as I can still move the seat back and forth, and it doesn't hit the passenger's legs.

yea... i figure the gearbox tunnel sounds like the best idea.
i really dont want to have to drop the gearbox tho

lol... if i didnt have a passanger seat it would be good http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif
i see in some or most of the N2 cars they just bolt it onto that rail that is perpendicular to the car that goes under the front seats.

the extinguisher is only for drift events so CAMS wont be onto me about it if its in a place other than theyve decided is good.... for now...

Aren't there CAMS sanctioned drift events now....

That said, you won't have any problems on the gearbox tunnel.
