Well I've been on this forum for a few weeks thought I may as well post up about my ride.
it's a work in progress but pretty much done, the wiring just needs a few tweaks and I need to do
my radiator hosing.
As it stands
82 ke70
rwd 4age blue top with 7 ribbed bottom end
trd cams/springs
trd clutch
trd copy 4-1 headers
t50
sigma control arms
cut falcons front and rear with sierra shocks in the back
fronts will be coil overs soon enough
completely stripped interior except for two front seats and little
bit of the dash.
looking to get a bride brix soon as well.
some wierd nardi like deep core steerer
it has some crummy cheviot wheels but I'm waiting for these wheels in the post
:D
they have street tyres on them now but I got the rally tyres also because I'm thinking about
doing the qld stage of the australian rally next year just as a privateer with my gf as a fun little thing
to do. Considering it'll be pretty much perfectly set up for rally.

yeah man it was pretty gnarly, i rekon about 6 months ago if the same had happened i would have written off my car, possibly died. It was freaky man, i fuckin drifted around the first on with a bit of a flick and hand break at 80 clicks, just as i got around it a second one popped up out the bush. I manage to pull the car up, albeit sideways, in a matter of metres.

How does this go at drifting?
driftke70
23rd December 2006, 03:36 PM
its alright, i had trouble at the start holding drifts because my clutch is crappy and slippy and i couldnt kick it all day otherwise i wouldnt be able to get home, but i cranked the rear pressures right up and managed to get some nice stuff going. For my first attempt on the track anyways.
On the street, its pretty fricken awesome, does what i want pretty much all the time, in the wet its so controllable, i was hoping it would keep raining at the last drift day so the track would be soaking.
driftke70
10th January 2007, 08:16 PM
Well new clutch is in, I cant remember all the details about it, slydar can fill those in but its pretty fricken good, alot easier to depress, alot more feel and WAYYYY more bite.
cheers dee and kaizen.

31st January 2007, 10:58 PM
just bought a new ke, will be prepping it body wise nicely, fitting all the suspension crap i want to it, getting good wheels for it, then transfer my engine and gearbox and diff, seats etc into it. I tapped the back of mine on a pole the other day, nothing too major but damaged none the less. I was always going to clean mine up but theres no point, because i can do it now without taking my car off the road. anyhoo pics later..

1st February 2007, 12:21 AM
ok i need help with the following, advice etc
painting, the only thing that scares me is the chrome trim and everything, it it possible to pull the windscreen out and back window without messing up all the chrome stuff.
bolt on wheel flares, where and how and $
hydraulic handbreaks, are they worth it. taking into account i cant remember the last time i used my handbreak for a slide.
surge tanks, cheapest easiest way to do it (true ke driver way)
whats a good price for a set of 14x8' - offset wantans
thanks in advance, i look to have this completed in the next week.
Andrew
1st February 2007, 11:00 AM
Banzai had brand new wantans 14x8, 14x9's still in boxes for 2200. They would be nice though a bit pricey.
That chrome shit is hard to get off without destroying it, gets real brittle so your best bet might just be masking, spend money on that decent 3M tape or whatever it is and go nuts with it.
I don't think the hydraulic handbrake would be a very cost effective mod, certainly not if you don't use it...drums ftw.
driftke70
8th February 2007, 11:40 PM
now i play the waiting game, new ke will have no compromises, no short cuts, everything will done properly. Learnt from my mistakes (not many other than few suspension tweaks) Ground up resto
2 way
respray (beige but may change my mind)
nolly bushes throughout
t3 suspension,4 link, panard, camber tops etc etc
completely stripped,
plexy glass windows except for front two.
doors gutted,
roll cage colour coded same as car.
ssr meshies
no rust at all, and rust proofed,
short shifter
nardi wheel
no stickers
look to have it finished in about 6 weeks.
v-tec
9th February 2007, 12:13 AM
Sounds very sexually hot man, good to hear a car going all the way.
All the chrome trims can be removed on the car, just a matter of how.
Painting. not sure bout pulling the windows out without doing this tho as i think it basically rests over the seals.
biggest advice i can give on painting: do it 100% properaly, you can prep it yourself as long as you do it all good, but get someone who knows how to use a compressor gun to get the job done proper.
will be the best money you ever spend
Bolt on flairs, ken at streeter by streeter sells bolt on guards for $150 for two to suit a ke (fills in the bits that the sprinter bars have cut out) or i think $300 for the full set
Hydraulic handbrakes can be done, not sure where its sold or how its done. Talk to ant from kaizen as he has one in his coupe.
Not sure about wheels, some places like banzai as andrew says but realisticly the only way to get good prices is look up on yahoo and see about finding someone that can get them delivered to you.
The car sounds like a fairly serious build up man, i have been meaning to come see you current ke for a while.. gimme a yell if you would like some help with this new one.
ae71
9th February 2007, 01:18 AM
just looking at your list there, if your into the slide, i wouldnt recomend the short shifter you seem to change gears fast enough. you only use 2nd or 3rd anyway.. the little bit longer throws are better for smashing.
other than that sounds good, dose it really need a respray..? like the idea of color coding the rollcage, take some of the attention away, or maybe black would be better..?
driftke70
9th February 2007, 07:19 PM
ill be rebuilding my gear box with new shifter bushes and stuff so it toight like a toiger, i kinda like the long throw but i like my cars crisp.
vtec ill be paying a smash repair place to do it, i dont have the time or inclination to do it myself. Respray is because, firstly, i just cant stand rust, i hate the site of it, it makes me sick, and i just want my car to be clean and tidy, pigs are good, but im going to be keeping this car for a very long time, judging by how much i love my current car, andi want it to last the test of time, ill even be getting it tarred and rust proofed.
I will also be seam welding the whole car, and buying this special foam that you put inside gaps of the body to make it rigid. I have also drawn up some designs for fornt quarter braces that ill probably make tomorrow.
Colour coded roll cage is because i want to be able to be pulled over by the cops and have them be impressed and say, woah this kids put alot of effort into his car. Not some dick head public enemy number 1.
After i have finished this work on the car i will start building an engine. I have recently got a new job and I will be selling my suzuki sierra that is currently having a new engine fitted to it so i will finally be able to achieve my dreams. Im talking ae101 big port head, ported flowed, hi comp pistons everything forged, black top quads, after market management, cams stiffer valve springs, cam gears all cleaned up. I will probably make my own set of extractors that i will copy off some nice ones, or just use my trd copies.
I am making a side pipe for the track as well that will take 5 mins to bolt on.

have organised chrome bumpers and have almost got twin lights.
driftke70
20th February 2007, 04:59 PM
didnt win the bid on the twin lights, it finalised when i was asleep and some dickhead beat my by like 1.50 and i was prepared to go way higher. Anyhoo
floods in townsville have delayed me getting my car sooner but called them and they assured me it would be here this week. So im an eager beaver.
Have organised some racing logic coil overs, will also be getting power steering arms as well as getting them machined for brutal lockage. Will be going into te71 struts. Spent today organising my surge tank and lines, have a variable fuel pressure regulator with a guage that will be going on my dash. Organised a through a mate who will be helping me seam weld my body, he has one of those tripped out things where you can flip the car upside down and stuff, so it will be getting the full treatment.
I have decided that once I have done everything to this car, Ie fit suspension, strip fit all the crap engine and all that, I will be selling my suzuki sierra to fund a 4agte. I have decided that I wont be going for huge boost or anything, I just want pretty much a 4age that has a nice helping hand in the mid range, so will be using a small turbo on relatively low boost. Will probably be stroking it out with a tomei kit, I will be starting from a 4agze. Will used forged internals and will organise for kazien to wire it all up with adaptronic. I just want to be able to have the engine capable of big power figures for reliability, so I can drive to the track, thrash it all day and know that nothing will ever go wrong. I will be getting a custom bellhousing to fit a w58 gear box also.
This is after i get cam gears and quads and adaptronic for my current bigport engine. Just to make sure i need to go 4agte. If i do i will be able to use the management etc off this engine.

got my car this monring, clean as, i have made an odd decision, ive decided to keep the interior, its just too mint, some old dude has put alot of effort into keeping it that way over the last 25 years, i cant be the one to ruin it. Ill still be fitting cage and everything, but I am just going to make the car daily driveable, I love stripped interiors, but there is something about having a full interior in a tan ke with rear louvers chrome bumpers and a jdm 4age. I can always take it out later if I find it gay and heavy anyhoo.
Ive taken the 4k out and cleaned the engine pay up, and prepped my red ke to have its engine taken out, i pick up my coil overs most likely tomorrow from kaizen and they will be fitted after i do the engine transplant, as its easier to work on when the car is higher.
Im still thinking about my colour scheme, i had a crazy idea that i would paint the bonnet roof and boot brown, but i dunno. Ill see what happens.

Heres my advice on the looks dept... so take what you like etc.
Ok, once all the 4a stuff is installed it time to take the bull by the horns and apply some hot looks to that KE!
Remove front grille as this make the front end more agressive, or if anything take of the std toyota badge.
Take side rubbings off and keep the sides nice and clean.
give it a very big wack with the lowering stick
find some nice 14in rims pref 7/8j f/r combo
KEEP all the interior, the car will ooozzzee coolness with it still inplace.
DO NOT paint the car 2 tone brown/beige, that color is great.
Nice chrome bumper for the front, maybe bin off the rear one for that JDM drifter look!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif
nice steering wheel
some fender/wing mirrors
nice, simple exhaust hanging out the back, nothing to big, rice like as its a suttle car.
there you go, nicest KE EVER!!111??/
driftke70
2nd March 2007, 10:43 AM
close, but ive got a chrome bumper for the back too, and i will be painting the bonnet and boot black. us ae86 is apparently sourcing me some twin lights, with my coil overs im going to be able to get my ride height perfecto,
ive gotta sell my other car cause work is gay at the moment and ill be getting a front lip and boot lip spoiler for it. The spoiler will be tan on a black boot, and the front lip will be tan on a black front end, cause this ke will have stripes down the side like my old one.
Ive got some wheels lined up but because work didnt pay me for so long then did the whole its too quiet for you to work this week thing i couldnt buy these ssr mk3's that i wanted quite badly. But again when i sell my sierra ill be getting some sweet wheels, probably wantans or mk 2 or 3's.

got shit together for my tacho dash to go in, got my pedal box in and accel cable, cleaned my loom up and put it through the bay and wired her up, got the fuel sorted out also.
tomorrow all i have to do is change the cross member over, and the control arms, then slip the 4age and t fitty in, plug some things in here and there and im away,
I shall call it, the custard glory boat, and it will be until i fit my suspension,
2 foot guard clearance ftw.

4th March 2007, 09:15 PM
hey how did you get room for a foot rest. i looked at using an 86 pdeal but its a different spacing atht epivot point and it sort of needs to stay in the 86 http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif
did you just bend the pedal a bit?
driftke70
5th March 2007, 12:36 AM
im using ae71 pedals, that i bought from you many moons ago, and before i fitted them to my red rolls i heated the clutch pedal up with the oxy lamp and bent it at a nicer angle, cause i like to left foot break,
Gilly
5th March 2007, 07:46 AM
aaaah ok cool. yeah makes sense the ae71 clutch pedal sits pretty far left. highway drives are a biatch as you can't put your left foot anywhere.

bout to go get my coil overs, ill have pics for all, i kinda pulled my control arms and crap out when i changed the cross member, and couldnt be assed putting it back together only to pull it apart the next day to fit the coil overs, hence why i couldnt roll my car to the g rage and slip in some love, the 4age kind.

nar i just work at a tyre shop, what more could a drifter need, less than cost tyres, free use of hoists and wheel alignments, free use of tyre machines, cost price rims, wheel spacers, wheel nuts. Free car set up advice from someone whose been there and done that, and a boss who is obsessed with my car and tries to find excuses to fiddle with it when its quiet.
