Hi all, just found this web site a few days ago and have been looking through all the posts etc and found a few cool pics of Corollas and alot of great information.

My name is Adam, and I am from the UK. Little far from you guys so no meet ups/parts selling for us, but just nice to have a place to chat about Corollas and look at what other people like to do with them!

Here are my current cars. I have only just recieved the Levin from Japan a few weeks ago but there was a earth problem with it and its not running and cant find the faul (and havent got the time - WORK! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif) and the KE is stock, but my plan is to use the AE86 as a doner car in the future and swap over all the ae86 running ger onto the KE.

Thanks
and hello form the uk! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Ok , this is my other car, a Mint 25,000 metalic Brown KE70 Toyota Corolla DX!!

This is my 'current' pride and joy and I am fixing this up and will be driving my ae86 for whats left of the summer.

I havent done much to it just yet as, I want to use the ae86 for a bit over the rest of the summer.

Its a 1980 KE and I plan to run a 4age on ITB. and use all the parts from the 2 door ae86 when I am ready.

heres a few pics of what it looks like at the moment.

which parts are you going to swap from the ae86?

cheers lads.

well I really dont want to have to part the ae86 out, but I only need one car (I have a daily driver to float about it) and I cant afford to 4age both. I could keep the ke70 on the 4k, and just drop it on som lower suspension etc, but whats the point??

the only thing left from the ae86 will bee the bits that wont fit on the KE!

Should get a good amount of cash back for the shell, bumpers, panels, interior etc.

I have a spare 4age and T50 box, but over here we never got the ae70, so its harder to do a 4age swap, plus AE86 and KE70 are quite rare and quite expensive.

I paid approx $3000 AUS for this KE, but its the best one I have ever seen and is like new, and the earlier version with the chrome bumpers, and front end that will allow the JDM twin headlights etc.

I do have a question though re the 4age into a ke70 if anyone can help me??

I looked over the forum for an answer but could not find a positve answer.

If I have all the ae86 (xmember, steering rack etc) and put in the T50 JDM ae86 gearbox in (my ke is a manual not an auto), and as this is a hydrolic clutch system, can I just bolt the completepedal box and clutch master cylinder on, or is it a real pain?? Some say its all just a straight swap and others say is a ball ache??

What is it??

cheers

you can mod the ae86 clutch pedal arrangement to fit the KE70, but from what i've heard it's hard to get right. we have an AE71 here it's the same as a ke70 but uses a SOHC carby 1.6l and a t50 and hydraulic clutch arrangement same as the ae86. we use the pedal box out of the ae71 in the KE70 to use the T50.

however i don't know what you'll do in your situation. you may have to import a ae71 pedal box from here!!!

it would be criminal to pull apart that AE86!!

hey Gilly.

Do you thhink you could help me get a ae70 pedal box?? Please?? http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

As for the ae86, its very 'used' and the paint is bad (this dosent bother me, its just why I bought it because it was cheap).

And, just as a treat. id thought id show you my other AE86 I owned last year, it was a bit special.

It was a 1986 Trueno Black limited, but with a difference! It had bee 4agze in japan, along with a ful 7 point cage, 15.7,5 Pansport split rims, Cusco under parts, suspension, and trd rear shock, and ARB, bride seats, and a load of defi gauges (all like new).

enjoy

oh and another reason why it seem strange for me to want a ke70 over a ae86, is that here in the uk, there are alot more ae86 than ke70, so I want to be little different and I prefer older, square shaped cars!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

cheers for all the comments dudes.

The Black limited i sold last year as it was worth just too much for messing about it etc. Cost me about £9000 Uk pounds! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/ohmy.gif so it had go to pay back the bills, great car though, bet I have ever owned.

As for all the UK AE86'S, well, they are either rottern, too expensive or mst of the time in Ireland as they are VERY popular there. Id rather buy a Jap one anyway, as due to our salty roads here a 20 year old car does well not to rust! Thats why I love my UK Ke70, 26 years old, 25k, and preety much no rust, I really doubt there is a better KE70 in the UK! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif that hasnt had paint work/welding/restoration etc.

I cant afford to keep both the KE and the 86, so one has to go really http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

Was it hard to find those parts you've bought for the front?

tetsujin
7th August 2006, 11:32 PM
I wouldnt say it was 'hard' its more just a case of waiting for them to pop up for sale.

I got all my KE70 parts from Yahoo Auctions, as here in the UK, the KE70 is a very un common car unlike where you are where thay are much easier to find. I have only seen about 12 for sale since Christmas and half of them are very rusty.

Just keep checking Yahoo and have cash saved for the day they turn up! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

you can get the metal bumpers off there too, as they did not come on your version did they??

if you use Yahoo, just use the search with the words 'ke70' or 'te71' that brings up the best results http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

here is a link

gilly told me to check out this thread. he said he's helping you with parts anyway but on the ae86 clutch pedal into ke. i've done the conversion and i cant recomend it. but then like youve mentioned others said it was easy.

my car was orginally automatic so that could be the differance. regardless in my case i basically have to guess where the pedal would go, just eyed it up and found a good compromise between pedal placement and the resovoir not fouling on things in the engine bay. i then had to weld a flat bar to the side of the upper bracket in of the 86 pedal so i have somewhere reasonable to bolt the pedal to the column to reinforce it, as 86 pedal bolts to the a pillar brace, the KE70 doesnt have an a pillar brace, and the bolt hole misses the bulkhead slightly.

u can see the pedal and resovoir placement in the pics. the auto tunnel might be wider too as it was a little tight down there.

miss that car. if you like the ke better, go for it, theyre just as much fun.

Cheers Slydar! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Yeah, Gilly is sorting me out with the pedals and I am on the look out for a rev counter dash cluster for my ke70 aswell?

Also, the gearbox xmember is different and a AE70 one fits on an accepts the T50 better?

Also, in your thread re your beige KE, you never said anything re your rear axel?? Is it just a case of using a early (Zenki) ae86 diff and running that?? I have a complet ae86 rear axel anyway, but wold be interested to know:)

Anything else at all you think I might encounter on my swap?? You said the cars are not the same underneath like a AE86 as everone thinks? And you said about he exhaust not fitting?? I take it thats because you used a non JDM T50?? I am using ALL THE PARTS form a JDM Zenki Levin.

Re wiring, can you supply a plug and play loom for me (one that would just run a std 4age with an exhaust and std ecu)?? Its just I was planning to get the ITB fitted with the engine but at £1200 for a new ecu and wiring in and some other parts (DIS and pully) I would prefer to wait as I dont have the cash just yet?

You ke70 looked sweet by the way, any pics of the new ke70 you are doing??

Cheers for posted too http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

i put ae71 pedal cluster into my ke70 during a ke70 4age swap, mine was a k50 5 speed with a 4kc and now sports a t50 (ADM) and a blue top 4age with 7 ribbed bottom end.

ill tell ya it was a piece of piss, im 19 and had the old motor out and the new motor/gearbox/cross members/pedal box/clutch lines ect in under 2 days, and i would hardly say i was working hard and fast.

only problem i had was that i had to modify the ae71 gbox cross member just a smidge
