what does it mean to your engine when your cars shooting flames? is it a real critical thing?

and ive heard how some people connect a spark plug to their exhaust to make this happen on purpose and does this do any damage? is it bad for you car?

depends on lots of things, my old 4age used to shoot flames @ 6500 cause it ran so rich, was pretty cool people @ skool would trip out but kept fowling plugs so quickly you wouldnt believe it,

/\ hahahaha, true true. it could also mean your engine is in fact a rotary in disguise!!

It normally means that your engine is just running rich, cos it is effectivley dumping unburnt fuel into your exhaust.
It also means either you are running no cat converter, or the one you have is hollowed/stuffed.

It will foul up your spark plugs very quickly
