Well here is my brake upgrade. Not hard to do, if people are interested in a kit or parts of it then let me know.

First up is the parts needed.

S13 SR or CA or R32 +

Calipers
Disk
Brake line
Brake pads
Custom Braket
Machine down std hub

I have made it a bolt up design. The good thing is that you can upgrade to bigger 4-pots from R32 + or use the SR single calipers. Used nissan brakes over RX7 ones because they are cheaper and anyone can get there hands on some with a great range of pads too. With this setup, it will give you 10mm each side extra track, as it is a floating disk arangement. Will not add extra weight to the front of the car like a full S13 coilover/brake/hub setup. Pic's can do the talking

Cheers

yeah, I'd seriously consider a set if they were the right price, and engineerable

so is the disk held centric on the hub? for some reason i thought the nissan stuff had a bigger diameter hole than the ae86 hub? nice tig work on the adaptor bracket!

how does the pedal feel with the bigger caliper?? are you using a stock 86 master cyl??

patrol master 15/16ths, s13 r32 33 and 34 abs (2 port) masters fit, just need lines made. as a side note ca18det brakes and sr20de brakes are 13/16ths so can use the stock ae86 master, and still are a significant upgrade.

cos my JDM master isn't like an ADM one.. it's got bolts on a 45 angle.. it's still 13/6ths.. but it looks completly different pattern on the booster http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif but i am really keen on the NA SR or CA18det s13 idea.. keep the pedal feel good..

there the same brackets arn't they??

So has anyone found out where you can get the brackets?
Anyone keen to part with or make some up?

I'm going to look into getting some made up myself soon if no one knows of a supplier for these brackets. Not sure if I should do the WRX 4 pot calipers or the Nissan R32+ calipers(apparently basically the same caliper just different bolt pattern?)

the bracket shouldnt be a problem to make, but were d i go to get the hub machined?

S13 CA18DET calipers, etc, the same as the SR20DET versions, or is there a difference? The CA's are twin pots still...

Picked up a full set off eBay for my GTE project...

Yeah, decided the Nissan 4 pots are easier/cheaper to find. I agree - overkill - but but they are cheap, plentiful and lots of performance rotor/pad options around. So why not go overkill and never have to worry about stopping issues again! As mentioned, this will be in a turbo charged track only car.

Only thing I'm worried about at the moment is wheel offsets - the 4 pot caliper may make it harder to find wheels with caliper clearance?

all sumitomo built 4 pots take the same pad (mazda, toyota, subaru, nissan, its just the bolt spacing that is different

got the drawing of the brackets? how much do I need to mill the hub down? and whats the thickness of the metal plate do you use for the brackets(i need this because its related to how much to mill on the hub)?

I don't think anyone answered me when I asked before, but are S13 CA18DET turbo brakes the same as the SR20DET type? It's just that I compared the stock sprinter brakes to CA18DET ones, because I bought a set, and they're close to being the same! Very minimal extra pad exposed to the rotor...

Since I got a frontcut of an AE101 Levin for my conversion, I think I'll just make a bracket to suit them. Really massive pads on those compared! Should stop goodly. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Ca are smaller than SR.

benefit of CA brakes being they are vented.

if i was still using 86 struts i would just use JDM brakes rather than CA brakes. you'd be forking out cash for brackets and machining, where JDM stuff is close to the same size anyway and wil bolt straight on.

wats are the sizes of them? CA is 250mm right?

PuGZoR
28th October 2006, 01:22 AM
I don't know about the rotors, but the calipers from turbo CA's aren't that much bigger than the stock AE86 calipers, if they are bigger at all. Going AE101's up the front of mine...

CA18DET & SR20DE = 250mm

SR20DET = 280mm

yea i like 250mm disc coz i want something bigger but enough small to fit under 14 inches wheel. Just like the look of 14".

i know i didnt start this thread but i can answer a few questions because i did this conversion yesterday on my day off. i used corona struts and hubs, had too machine about 10mm off the hub but depends on what type you are using. it just has too be enough to fit the s13 rotor over it. easy if you have a lathe, not so easy if you dont. im just in the process of making the brackets now and judging by the interest here i might even produce a bracket to sell and possibly clean up some hubs and machine them and fit longer wheel studs and sell them as a pair. depends on interest and how much spare time i dont have! lol.

very interested in this. As i am changing from ra60 struts back to ae86 for coil overs, thanks AJPS.
and with around 200hp, i think this will be wise. Any help with that bracket would be great.

sorry , been away for a while.
im in the process of working out which caliper im going to use, i have turbo and non turbo calipers, but im using the SR turbo rotors as they are bigger. might use the non turbo caliper so i dont have to change my master cylinder. P.M me if you would like more info on this conversion or are intersted in caliper brackets or getting some modifyed hubs from me.
