damn, talk about ovekill on the rear brakes!

is that purely for a hydraulic handbrake? cause i can see you ripping up tarmac with it if so

post up a pic of the watts link, i'm thinking of doing it to my car but aven;t decided which way to mount it yet, or to go mumford link instead

looks good!

Its not an F100 diff by the way mate.

Its a F series from and MS112 Crown.

Got some 15" Ford ZR5 rims just the other day and I need people opinions on what colour i should respray the rims. Fell free to photochop. (There is no engine or gearbox in so that's why it's so high at the front.)

-Engine and shit will be in on Monday or tuesday so it should be ready by the end of the weekend. FINGERS CROSSED
-Picked up my Extreme 4 puck button clutch last week
-Installed fuel setup in boot
-Picking up twin thermo's on monday
-Installed oil,boost and volt guages

Just abit of heads up, I have the same turbo manifold on my setup, the dizzy, protect it ! it will melt etc etc. I talked to josh young and he also told me that his car use to melt dizzys! not jus the cap but hte internals. If you have an aftermarket ecu I recommend in the future getting multiple spark or waste spark setup with a gze cas distributor. For hte meantime make a heat shield or put some wrap around the manifold and/or distributor.

i was a bit hesitant about no heat shield around it whilst i had this setup in the 71 but it didn't melt. but after giving me a heads up i'll go make one on the weekend. cheers dude

A hydraulic handbrake is legal but, there must be two separate forms of braking so if one fails there is always a backup.

AE71 Rolla

Pretty sure the big end's siezed as i can't turn the harmonic balancer/crank any more. There was oil in the engine when i started it up but it obviously didn't pump enough up through the engine. Very, very angry... and devostated as it only took 2 minutes to destroy it!!!!

slide86
25th November 2006, 06:16 PM
did you have an oil pressure gauge on it when first started? was the oil pump primed?

didnt hear any big knocking noises?

AE71 Rolla
25th November 2006, 06:22 PM
The oil pupmed was not primed coz i'm a stupid fuck.(i realised after) the thing is last time i started the engine up having drained all the oil it ran fine. i'm pretty sure it was also partly to do with the oil having to travel to a massive remote mount filter and fill it up which wouldn't have helped it. the top end is fine by the way. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sleep.gif

slide86
25th November 2006, 06:30 PM
perhaps remove the sump in the car and ispect before removing entire engine again.

you may be able to fit a new bearing to fix the problem. i have seen it done before and all was good.

AE71 Rolla
25th November 2006, 06:36 PM
Dad and i are pretty sure that it's just the bearing that needs replacing. i didn't think it was possible to replace the bearing with the cross member in the way?

slide86
25th November 2006, 07:38 PM
if you can get the sump out then you might be right.

or, support engine with your engine crane and then drop the crossmember down??

Finally put my car back together last weekend and fixed some s##t on it up.

Verdict:
-Brakes are so good i almost went through the front window haha
-Power is awesome from 5 on coz i got no zorst on it atm. Pulls so hard it really puts you in your seat
-Handles like a dream, nice at cornering faster than usuall speeds but a bit bumpy sometimes
-Runs pretty cool for not having a shroud on it but a custom fibregalss one is getting made for it.
-Gear ratio is real good you can just slam change into 2nd and 3rd and it just bake
-Seems to chew through the fuel though. i'm talking like a quarter of a tank in 20mins???

What's instore for 86:

-Polished cylinder head
-Polished fuel rail

(All of the above hand polished for wank factor haha)

Come up sweet man what did u use to get it all so clean?[/b]

1. Degreased with industrial strength degreaser ( you won't be able to get your hands on this stuff though so supershit stuff is good enough.
2. Blow down with air hose to get water and other crap off.
3. Get a brass tipped wire wheel and got nuts but try to keep moving in either parralell or vertical movements. You need to over it twice to get it shiny.
4. Bust out the brasso and polish like crazy and it will end up like mine. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

Got some goodies in the mail today from America. A complete gasket set for everything on, in or bolted to the cylinder head. Only paid $60AU including shipping :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

I will be replacing the head gasket though as i want an 0.8mm or 1mm metal item

AE71 Rolla
19th March 2007, 07:39 PM
I also found out why my engine decided to give up. Bores have massive pits in number three and number one and evidence that there has been water sitting in the bores as the bottoms has rust on them. The pistons are fine apart from number three but will be purchasing some 82mm Arias forged numbers for the goods.

Would having it on 0deg timing have done that. it was never tuned properly either after i did the turbo conversion.

Prob had a lot to do with it, make sure you get a good tune after rebuild.

I think it was a lean mixture that contributed to it because when i used to nail it flat in every gear on 14psi it would sputter for a bit then take off.(sputter about 4500-5000rpm)

Little bit of an update.

Haven't done much at all as i have some debts to pay so no moola for hachi. Although i did happen to give it a hectik lawn edging front lip, which might i add, looks mint with a new lick of satin black bumper paint, and also repainted the grill gloss black.

I hacked up anything off my loom that wasn't needed to neaten the engine bay up a bit.

.....and i have even scored my self a free JDM 4AGE block which i hope to get on sunday. That way the hachi will be on the road quicker than expected.

That is all for now......

The rebuild finally started last night as i picked up the block and started stripping it. Going to take the block into work and put it in the hot bath over night to get rid of all the scale rust and oil built up in the galleries.

Polished up the crank journals aswell as repainting the cam gears gun metal grey with matt red edge. Painted shit like cam gear back cover and bottom part of cambelt case(the one with the numbers on it)

Fabricated and installed one of those harness braces/strut tower brace. Interior is also getting a lick of charcoal Killrust hammer finish as it looks the shit.

Gonna get a price off Toyota for a set of new pistons in the coming week or so and it should be back together real soon.

Stay tuned for more frequent updates.

Got my block and rods back from Performance Modifications today and they have done an excellent job with the 20 thou rebore and conrod resizing for a very cheap price. $208 for the lot where as other places like Kostecki Engine Centre were charging $240 just for rebore

Dad has taken the block to work to face up the top of the block so it's mickey mouse and he's goona put it in the hot bath so the block will come out lokking brand spankers.

I've decided that this Saturday is going to be when it all happens and i rebuild the engine so fingers crossed that i don't fuck anything up

Will post pics of rebore tomorrow when dad's finished with it

AE71 Rolla

Over time the rod's stretch and distort affecting the piston clearance so all they do is skim over the two caps, put them together and re bore the journal size.

Got a little bit done yesterday. Had to pretty much clean the whole block as it had scale rust on the inside and the gasket surfaces needed to be cleaned before i could do anything.

Polished the crank up and installed new ACL big end bearings so today i can put the pistons in and hopefully the rest of the bottom end shit like rear main seal and oil pump.

Made a fair bit of progress today.

Made my piston assembly up and put them in aswell as installing rear main seal and oil pump. Also put my crank pulley on and went to put my sump on only to find that the fire had fucked the gasket surface and also the return filter.(see pic) Tommorrow i hope to have cleaned them up so i can put them on and then i'll probably paint the block again as it look's shithouse.

The pistons come extremely close the top of the head as dad decked it coz it was warped and had corrsion on it.

Stay tuned as it's moving along nicely.

Been a couple of month's since i have updated this thread but thought i should since alot of shit has changed.

Car has since been deregistered as the DPA gave me a notice that i had a week to get the car over the pits, even though i wasn't notified that the yellow sticker expired three months before i got notified but what can you do? Anyhow........

THINGS DONE SINCE:
-Completely rebuilt my T28 for $86 which is not bad huh.
-Fabricated a straight through exhaust finally which cost me $120
-Finished painting the interior in Charcoal Killrust
-Fixed up the gaping hole in the back where the fuel lines come through
-Resprayed all IC piping black
-Purchased G1 Hydraulic handbrake(yet to be installed)
-Purchased GReddy E-Manage(yet to be installed)

THINGS STILL TO DO FOR REGO:
-Fit surge tank and fabricate fuel setup enclosure
-Install fiddly shit like horn, washer bottle, overflow bottle(is a charcoal canister needed???)
-Get handbrake put in professionally
-Find some rims to do away with spacers(if anyone knows or has 5x114.3 rims with 0 or negative offset please pm me)
-Install speedo cable
-Fix up rust around tail lights
-Fabricate bonnet holder(using a piece of wood ain't gonna pass :whistling: )
-Install $$$ worth of stainless oil and water lines and Earls fittings for turbo

So that's pretty much it for now but it's not really gonna get moving as i'm trying to save for Phuket in 4 weeks, so after that progress should be moving along fairly quickly.

Ohhhhh....and here is the daily shitter i bought to get me around in for now  (can someone photochop the rims off the sprinter onto the Corona coz i don't have photoshop anymore thanks.)

I was running 14psi with my setup coz that's the most the ecu can handle and it ran for about 4 months until it detonated. I never had it dynoed but plan to when i get the car back on the road.

I have an GReddy emanage that is sitting in my room that can be installed as a standalone, but i was just going to piggyback it as a mate of mine who know's his 4A's extremely well said it is easier to get a much nicer tune with the AFM but still make good numbers

Picked up rims today from Ken as was pretty happy with them. Only weigh about 4 kg's each and don't need as much TLC as first thought.
Went home to trial fit them on . . . . . don't fit  The calipers hit on the back of the rim as there isn't much of a mounting face on the back. Not to worry though as dad is gonna machine me up a slip on spacer that you won't be able to notice unless you take the wheel off.

Where the rim is gonna sit once done. I think it sits dead on flush with the edge of the guard :2thumbs: You can see the 20mm slip on spacer in the second pic which is still too small, so the spacer is gonna be about 26mm thick
