this is when i got it. I paid $1000 for it from a guy in Sydney. He threw in a 2nd set of rims, and a brand new $500 Pioneer amp. It was completely stock except for chopped pedder springs, and a chrome air filter on the carby.

...the red sprinter http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/ohmy.gif ..... I bought it like that for the motor and the diff!

At first I didn't think the rust in the chassis was v.bad until 2 years ago after I had installed an alarm and central locking. It was all working perfectly. I left it on the street that night, and the next morning I came out to work on the car. I went to unlock the car via the remote and nothing happened. wtf.gif .. So I unlock the car with the key and inspected the central locking unit that was sitting in the passenger side kick panel, only to find that it was full of water rant.gif It had been raining during the night, and I found a rust hole about the size of a 10c piece behind the front quater panel passenger side, then the same on the drivers side.. So the tear down begins!

installing a GT4 radiator

to start with, I made some custom lower brackets out of sheet metal and some U-bolts.

I cut the old mounts off and grinded back the remaining metal.

mods for the top brackets. flattened out where the drivers side bracket needed to go, drilled new holes and weleded nuts on the underside

I looked at this thread with 56k and lived! Front end is looking very tidy. Were your chassis rails tearing where you welded the wedge in to the firewall? Also, what is the bar between the ends of the chassis rails?

with the bits welded to the chassis rail, i borrowed the idea from a video option dvd. its just for extra strength. for the front bar, again its just for extra strength.. i had the bar lying around. I'll probably end up having to cut it out for rego etc http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Might flog your idea and do that to my chassis rails...

http://www.nocturnalcustoms.net/photos/ae86/engine.jpg

I finished installing all the intake side of the motor and fuel system, then installed the wiring loom. I had all this done by about 5:30PM on sunday. Tried to start the car after that, but there was no spark. by about 6pm the battery was flat, it was getting dark, and I had to be 660kms away by 8am monday morning so I called it a night. bugger.... next weekend ill figure on whats going on http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sleepy.gif

its been a while since ive done an update... my 86 lives again!! After dropping in the wiring looms and ECU, there was a problem with no spark. After some messing around, it turns out there was a kill switch previously wired into the engine loom http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/crazy.gif Connected the two wires together and it roared to life http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

I got another set of rims to add to the collection (for cheap!), and bought a decent 2-way alarm. I'm currently finishing off the wiring (alarm, central locking, power mirrors), then its time to finish the body and paint. Hopefully it will be tearing around the streets of Canberra early in January!!!

long time no update again http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/blink.gif

The engine is now installed and running ok. Still needs the timing to be adjusted, and a good flush to clean it out. The body is almost ready for paint, just need to finish off the hatch. It took a while to cut out all the rust in this beast... The front guards have been hand flared, and the aerial hole deleted from the drivers side. Hopefully I'll have a chance to paint it in the middle of June.

now for some pics (soz. about the shit quality ones taken on my phone):
