Well, I think my car is a bit too ugly to be posted on the internet at this stage. this should change within the next four years (haha, i move slow)

but anyway..

I just thought I'd list up a few of it's mods, and post up a picture of some stuff that has yet to be put on..

I've got KYB shocks all round, stock kyb ae86 fronts, on AJPS 5kg springs (around king low height) and rx7 gen1 rear kyb shocks, with AJPS 3kg springs. I run a racespec front strutbrace, and that's about it really.

the car is in pretty bad shape but has basically no serious rust anymore (yay)

it needs some panel work though, and a sprayjob .. and a bonnet, and some carpet.. and.. and.. yeh.

I'm waiting on a kaaz two way from RMS motor parts .. it's been about a month.

Some parts I need to put onto the car:

Granto

yup

i'm running a ge.. bigport. forgot to say that

my clutch is slipping bad, so i got this new one..

i just rang rms motorparts, they reckon another two weeks.

It's not going to be setup for massive powers or anything like that, but it should handle/drift decently.

Granto

it's not on yet! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

im a bit of a slacker, oh well, i've been gathering parts for it.

I'm gonna have to track down a 20v map for a stinger!

I think there's a guy with an mr2 on toymods, wonder if he'd send one to me, heh.

Okay, KAAZ LSD is picked up.

I've been speaking to a few places, and things might work out cheaper than I expected (but still just out of my reach for now, doh)

I still haven't installed the clutch (the dead is is REALLY dead now) and yeh.

I lost my old job (that paid well) and have a new one (that dosen't) but I've got most of the major things out of the way, except the bodywork and paint, but those things and rims come last.

So yeh, over the next few weeks and paychecks, things should be getting done (Like clutch and diff)

I also picked up some valve stem seals, that I might try and do myself haha. I'll look into that eh.

Granto
17th November 2006, 05:00 PM
i banged out some panels a bit, they need to be smoothed over, but no real major dentage anymore.

maybe, 3-4 weeks it should be ready to spray (and be going really fast:D)

Did you take your bonnet off and sleep on it or something? heh.
Atleast your car actually looks like an 86, mine is just a naked shell atm. It makes me sad. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

Well, I got a new little toy (finally!) so I thought I might add some pics.

[attachment=9278:attachment]
[attachment=9279:attachment]

Sadly however, the engine is really going through too much oil. And blowing a lot of smoke.

With this amount, I would have to say it's the actual oil rings that need to be replaced, and the pistons are probably pretty tired by now too.

The clutch has started to grind as well, but that's meant to get fixed tomorrow, hopefully.

Granto
24th November 2006, 04:04 PM
okay, wow.

I did some fiddling with my car, forgot things, found other things etc etc.

I went to put on the clutch I had, but it was for the 212mm which dosen't bolt up (hehe i read that they do! oh well, silly me) so I swapped the 212 mm sports tuff clutch (purple one) for a exedy japan racing 200mm clutch. It's a four puck and apparently a really good pressure plate. It drives ace.

What I couldn't get done was the thurst bearing, oh well, I got one now so I'll be taking the gearbox off again next week, fun fun. Apparently you have to get it pressed on, hopefully steve will help me with many trips to various mechanics, http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

I have the oppertunity to get a T series diff but I doubt it's going to happen really. Just not enough time! Unless anyone wants to give me a spare diff by tomorrow morning, heh. So LSD might take another few weeks yet, damn need money for it! heh.

Problems I found http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif

bolt snapped off from clutch slave.
a nut missing from extractors.
a bolt missing from gearbox housing!!
two bolts missing from gearshift leaver?!
gearbox mount now out of shape and can't be bolted to the gearbox crossmember! doh!

So yeh, plan to take care of all that next week. heh.

Also, the chaps at Exedy are champions and good sports ! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

I need to track down, a T18 diff+hb cables+4.1 or 4.3 gear ratios+lots of degreaser.

Also need to track down a base map for running a bigport 16v via TPS only with quads on for an EMS stinger v3.

Grant out.

grr argh

well i've been fucking around with the clutch for a while, so over it.

I have a new clutch master being delivered tonight (around mdnight, haha wtf?)

so anyway, basically, the day after i get it going wiht the clutch, i can no longer get it to go into gears (like it aint disengaging properly)

i've played around with clutch pedal adjustment, but ehh, never seem to get it right, so I think I could've got it working by adjusting the clutch, but I didn't really get HOW it works (you losen the night, screw in the pin more to the pedal and then tighten the nut hehe) until I had the clutch pedal out of the car (and the master, too).. im a bit like that you live you learn eh, i can't find that online ae86 book thingo.

anyway

bolt snapped off from clutch slave.
<strike>a nut missing from extractors.</strike>
<strike>a bolt missing from gearbox housing!!</strike>
<strike>two bolts missing from gearshift leaver?!</strike>
<strike>gearbox mount now out of shape and can't be bolted to the gearbox crossmember! doh!</strike>

i think that list wasn't too bad eh.

So my mate (who rocks, hard) who works at a parts shop is dropping me off the clutch master tonight, so hopefully I can get that in and adjusted right by the end of the week and ah, yeh.

After the AE86 DC cruise, to my absolute shock and horror, I had a bit of clutch slip in 4th gear.. i swear, if ihave to change the clutch centre again, (fourth time) im not going to be happy.

oh well once it's sorted out i'll be happy.

Talk to truenosedan (lawson from AJPS), he can hook you up with the diff, handbrake cables and a T18 tailshaft rear half (assuming you don't have one, they are required to do a T series conversion).

Degreaser = Sprints.

bit expensive for my liking and then there'd be $$ for shipping too.

just a matter of not being lazy, and going to a wrecker to pull one. On payday of course.

need to stop going to big events and spending money.. ah, cars.

plenty of diffs around ere http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Granto
6th December 2006, 01:36 AM
yeh update about the clutch..

i pulled the gearbox off in daylight, and wow, the pressure plate is on TIGHT AS ANYTHING, howevahz, it was sitting out by a fair bit.

The screws seemed to be rock tight yeh, nfi what happened hey.

i have a feeling for a racing clutch you have to really tighten the buggers (more than just having the crank spinning and then holding it for a bit of an extra turn)

[attachment=9723:attachment]

oops.

so yeh, hopefully, whack the gearbox back on tomorrow and see how i go.

hopefully it's all good, and i'll tear up, get my lsd in soon. and FINALLY get to a fuckin drift day! omgomgomg.

it's been like 5 years? wow.

Small update

I've been bored lately.

So I've pulled out my computer wiring loom.

I've test fitted another one after butchering both.

I've got spark and fuel (I think, I need some clean white paper handy to check the fuel! heh)

So if anyone has a MAP for a 20v or a 4age bigport with quads running TPS only.. for EMS Stinger ..

Send my way! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif in V3 please!

Okay, another quick update..

car is running with the EMS stinger and the quad thorttle bodies.

I need to get a cable to reprogram it a bit, and get a 4age base map running TPS as primary and maybe a higher % enrichment.. and then tow it to a dyno tuner..

I should also probably get 4x coils before I do this.

and maybe some cams, but ah, who knows, that's later.

Narh mate, Got the shits with it and have parted it out http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

Saved some good bits for myself though and have thrown them in a granny! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Only problem is the engine (4AC Powah!)

Bit of a waste of Coilovers, 8ways, 2way LSD, nice big brakes etc when you need some serious downhill slopes to be able to keep it up to speed...

was thinking bout throwing a small turbo on it to see how long it lasts, with the compression in those things it should be worthwhile! And hell could get another 4AC for pittance, but yea, would like a bigport in the longrun.

Looks pretty in your engine bay now with the quads!

Hey man, its pretty on the inside and thats all that counts right?!?!?!11one

hrm so i got that little thing off mic (the thing that joins all the cylinders together so i can get a good map reading) and yeh it's gone a bit weird now...

this data logging is from a map/setup that has previous run the engine, however, it wont start now.

[attachment=14489:attachment]

this is after some fiddling, still no progress though. (changing stuff around to how it should be theoretically)

DavisJD

Grant i tried getting my map from my ECU to get the injector times etc for you, but im still having probelms with hooking my laptop up to my ECU, the laptop wont recognise that the ECU is plugged in. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/angry.gif

Granto
28th April 2007, 06:21 PM
using a serial cable or a usb>serial?

if so, make sure you tell it to be the same com port that your ecu software is using.

Granto
28th April 2007, 06:37 PM
oh yeh i forgot to mention

weird stuff yeh

the battery reads 12.80v right.. you crank the engine, and the alt voltage drops to 8-7-6-5-4 then it wont crank no more.

i.e. battery fresh of the battery charger over night :S

also still no progress on getting my dash light to work

could a fucked alternator be causing this? maybe so.

hrm.

Grant.

StockAE86
2nd May 2007, 06:28 PM
Dash lights? Maybe it's your switch? Give it a few whacks.

DavisJD
3rd May 2007, 07:04 PM
Check your battery isn't stuffed first, and the connections are good.

(Don't laugh, it happened to me, I was to stupid to check the simplest thing! Lots of multimeter testing later. Lesson learnt!)

Im just using a serial cable, the COM ports match up, Ive tried turning it off and on using all scenarios, (not plugged in, plugged in, ECU on, off etc etc.) Fucking Bill Gates.

Granto
5th August 2007, 03:46 PM
oh sorry i didnt see the replies

um, anyways, the dash "charge" light is the one im talking about.

it comes on when the alternator is sending an earth to the dash out of the yellow (or yellow and white) wire. while the alt isnt running, it sends this out, which tells you alt isnt charging, at aout 500 RPM the alt sends 12v through this wire, and presto, the light goes off.

i think i might need a new cluster. doh!

Anyway, from that other thread, where im sooking about my car (/emo cut+burn) i've actually made a slight bit of progress I think. I think the battery is pretty stuffed, but, I actually get the fuel noid test light to stay flashing while cranking the car, which is great. but there is some smoke blowing up from somewhere on the starter/extractors side of the engine, and i dont know why as i dont have anyone to turn the key while I investigate.

but so that's good anyway, i think i blew the ignitors again, so i'll have to mail the ecu off to ems again, to get it repaired again. i should take a picture, but ihad a 10 amp fuse .. and, the way it blew, it blew two or three or four times. this kind of thing could ONLY physically ONLY happen to me :P
