Hey guys, have only just got around to getting off my @ss and putting this thing up in the member's rides. THis is gonna be a fairly long post, and i've had this for about 11 months and done work slowly on it. Anyway, here we go:

Purchased late last year from a middle aged woman, and was pretty tidy. Hubby had a ke20 "weekend car" and kept this just as clean. Clean interior, straight body, onlycouple of normal small spots of rust, new clutch & recon 4k head, 4 speed manual, aircon ( :greenbounce: ) Approx 210,000km on the clock.

The details of the car now are:

Car: 1983 Toyota Ke70 Corolla CS
Engine: 4k-c
Gearbox: K-50 gearbox swap
Diff: Stocker

Engine Mods:
Cortina 32/36 DGV weber, redline air filter
2" exhaust system, through to oval muffler and 4" tip i think

Suspension Work:
Front - monroe shocks & kings
Rear - kyb excel-g shocks & kings
27mm front swaybar (that's right, 27mm :P)

Brakes:
Hmmmm, stock

Interior:
AE71 Dash cluster
Cheap "type-R" ebay steering wheel
Kenwood MP3, 6" rears, amp, 12" sub etc
Initial D seat covers (got as a gift - not trying to be takumi!)
floormats

Body:
beige colour
"professionally" rolled guards

Wheels:
14x7 chevoit's all round replacing stockers

Mods to come:
JDM 4age Bigport Conversion :greenbounce: - ENGINE ARRIVED IN AUS 17/11!!!!
Currently sitting up in my shed is MOST of the gear required to do my 4age conversion incl t-18 diff, and should get the engine in about 1 week (landed on friday, going to inspect next saturday before it comes out of the half cut). Once engine and other bits are picked up, conversion goes ahead!

Have a new autotecnica steering wheel on the way to replace the P.O.S that is in there now also.

Then want to do twin headlight conversion, flare guards, and obligitory fender mirrors :)

Will chuck up some "before" and "after" pics shortly.....

Thanks mate http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif Hasnt quite dropped as much as i'd hoped it would, especially in the front. Gotta either flare the rears out or get stiffer springs (falcon probably), as it scrubs the second someone sits in the back http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rant.gif Hopefully the added weight (if any) of the 4age will bring it down a little at the front! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Have been looking into what options i've got to do the guards so i can drop it down more.....ie "normal" flare, or bolt ons. Only concern with bolt ons is doing the dodgy and cutting the panel under it (not a huge worry on the front as you can bolt a new panel on if it needs to be inspected) and then bolting it on, but rears are another story. Though cause the bolt on's cover the rear guard, they could be "persuaded" out with a hammer, with the bolt on's covering the nastyness under it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif Or i could just get it done properly http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

In the meantime, it'll be getting 4age love very shortly, then we'll go back to worrying bout the exterior. Wanna get everything up and runninng nicely with the 4age when it goes in http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

i definitely think the 4age is lighter, cause when i took my 4k out my suspension rose accordingly, and when i put the 4age in it didn't drop back down at all.

EDIT: ps that is fuckin shmick

EDIT: ps that is fuckin shmick[/b]Serious? there goes that theory of the engine dropping it down then! will take some measurements before and after and see if there's a difference http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif Was there much of a difference with the 4age in driftke70??? Im pretty sure there'll be a decent change in power etc, but cause i've never riden in one with a 4age, there's a part of me that's not sure! Will find out soon enough i guess http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

yes[/b]Cool, thats what i was wanting to hear! I know its gonna be better, but like i said, cause i've had to wait a bit since i put the deposit on the engine ya get to thinking whether it actually will be that good! Will have to do some "before tests" before it goes in to measure just how much better it is http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/greenbounce.gif

Went and checked out the engine this morning in the halfcut. Got a few pics etc so hopefully that'll help with the install, which will hopefully be next weekend. Had a chat to the guy who owns the place and he said when he was driving it in japan he had a bit of a run behind a n/a silvia, and the lil 16v kept with him, so hopefully its got a bit of go in it. Anyway, here's one of the pics i took this morning. Looks a bit weathered, so will have to clean up the intake and rocker cover a bit i think http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Got confirmation that the engine etc is ready to be picked up tomorrow, so i'll be heading down there tomorrow after work to grab it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/greenbounce.gif Also picked up a fuel pump (fuelmiser VL pump - didnt have any bosch ones...), thermo fan switch, and k&n pod filter which was on sale (all at autobarn....20% off everything, and 50% off the filter http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tup.gif). Thermo fan should be arriving shortly, and will pick up some efi hosing before friday also. Then should be set to go.

Will try to get some pics up on the weekend. depends what goes wrong and when http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

Went and picked up the engine package today......was good as they'd cleaned it up a little, and its come up alright. Also quite happy as i found a few things that i wasnt expecting:

1. air conditioner compressor still attached http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif
2. chrome shift knob, Annnnnnnd
3. short shift kit! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/greenbounce.gif

So im pretty happy with that. Loom also appears to be mostly hooked up still, so that's gonna be a huge help! Will see how we go by the weekend, and will chuck up an update sometime soon http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

Update: 4k out, 4age & gearbox, pedal box etc bolted in, pretty much just driveline now (tailshaft and swap to t-series diff), fuel system (in place, just gotta run hoses & connect pumps and then wiring. me & my mate had a look at it tonight but it might be past our capabilities http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rant.gif Will look again tomorrow and will see. Doubt it'll be finished this weekend, but should be one way or another by next weekend. will keep ya posted http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Okay, bit of an update.......

4age is bolted in and all in place, as to is the gearbox, t18 diff, tailshaft etc etc......basically all that's left to do is wire the b!tch up, get the clutch line hooked up (and sourced....didnt come with the package, so will be phoning tomorrow http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/5/4/536981.jpg), and finish the fuel system. Got the starter going and got it to crank over, so should fire once all wired up (well thats the plan http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif).

Also found out that the "aftermarket" clutch in it is a TRD 3-puck brass button clutch i think.....got trd stamped over everything, and even better, there's still heaps of meat on it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif Ran all new gaskets and seals etc through it while it was out, so should be nice and fresh when it fires up.

Oh, and a big thanks to the lads helpin me out (you know who you are!!!)

Anyway, here's some pics for the peeps:

Bye Bye 4k.......enjoy Mick

ITS ALIIIIIIVE

Well, it was alive, then it wasnt, then it was again, and now it isnt http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

Got her all wired up (thanks craig!!!!!), and we had some trouble getting her to fire. Eventually got it running (quite loud coming straight out the extractors!!!!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif), but then went to wire the alternator and it wouldnt start after that.

Checked timing, plugs etc, and then the dizzy........well, there was a heap of powder that came out when we took the cap off, and there was corrosion all through it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/fap.gif Cleaned it out, but then the rotor snapped when putting it back on cause it was so f$#ken brittle. Glued it back up, wired the thermo, joined the exhaust and then got it all running again http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Went for a spin around the block......took it easy, then on a straight put a lil bit into it, and then all of a sudden power is gone, no spark, and we then proceeded to roll about 400m back to my mates house (lucky). The rotor we glued had shattered http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

Tried one off a 4ac elec dizzy (thanks heaps Mick!!!!!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif), but no joy.

So it'll be off to the shops tomorrow to try and find one, and it should run again! WIll get some pics up shortly....and will have a review on the car tomorrow all things going well http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

okay, bosch GD688 purchased an in place, and engine is now running again http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/greenbounce.gif Got my first decent drive in it (from my mates to my place - 6km) and it goes pretty well. Great powerband, though the tacho isnt hooked up yet so not sure how high im taking it (not heaps high though). Just gotta quieten down the fuel gear in the back, and tidy everything up (ie mount ecu and a few other things) and i'll be good to go. Is holding all its fluid and staying cool so im pretty happy http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

Will report more on it once its all setup properly and running consistently nice.

Again, thanks heaps to all the boys that helped - paul, neil, mick, craig & others! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

Thanks blinky http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif Will get it all sorted out and nice then you can have a drive (slide) in it craig http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

Took it on a pretty decent drive (1.5 hours) with Mick and It goes pretty hard.....gotta get a new speedo drive, and then the speedo should work properly. Mick got the tacho going, and turns out i was only taking it to about 6500rpm, so got a bit left. dont wanna thrash the tits off it yet though http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif ONly other things are some little rattles, and the diff is whining a little i think. Oh, and the fuel pump is loud as f$#k http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif Will get it all sorted though and it should be good.

But bottom line, anyone looking to do one of these conversions........well worth it!!! Will put up some more stuff re experiences doing it etc and maybe even pricing if im game, but we'll see. Completely transformed the car which is awesome! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

Okay, bit of an update on the rolla. I smashed up my toe last weekend and as a result have been in a cast since last saturday, and thus havent done any work on the car, OR been able to drive it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rant.gif So no progress made, but rubber has been purchased to try and quieten down the fuel pumps, so that will be the next thing done.

Also, was gonna chuck up some of the other things im gonna look to do to it shortlyish:

1. Bit of work on the rims:
From this_______________To this
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/124066.jpg http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/7605/rimstobelikeje6.jpg

2. T-18 chrome bumper conversion- looks hot IMO - bit of work apparently though
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/1733/t18bumperbu8.jpg

3. paint the rocker cover on the 4age as its slapped out and yuk. GOt a complete rocker cover and spark plug alley cover from a mate, so will just clean that one up (mates sandblaster) and give it a coat of paint. Tossing up what colour to go with on the cam covers though (spark plug alley colour will remain black)........
Option A - standard look
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/124069.jpg
Option B - shiny silver & black writing (with 16 valve in blue to keep with JDM)
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/9940/enginecoveroption2ex0.jpg
Option C - nice metallic blue colour
http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/6400/enginecoveroption3bl4.jpg
Option D - red "wrinkle" paint
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/6001/vhtwrinklepaintcopynl5.jpg

So they're my thoughts about where to go next with this little car.........feel free to chuck up your thoughts/opinions/experiences!

Thanks http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

Last night i was bored and cause i've got the cast off my foot now ( http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/greenbounce.gif ), i went out and did some work on the car. The ecu and wiring was all sitting in the front passenger's footwell, and the relay etc for the fuel pump in my footwell (only shorted the fuse once http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif ). SO, i've poked the fuel pump stuff in behind the kicker on the drivers side which wasnt a problem. The ecu & wiring was a little more work purely cause of the bulk of all the wires, and the relay for the wires we hooked up. BUT, i managed to poke that stuff in behind the kicker (poking the relay through one of the holes in body) I ended up just sticking the ECU up behind where the glovebox is, and its sorta resting against the heater fan and some other shit up there. Aint going anywhere, which is good. Only thing is the glovebox is a little harder to shut, but some gentle force when its in position does the job, and wont hurt the ecu http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif SO, the interior is now back as it was and looking stocker again! Just gotta sort out the airconditioning now and all will be sweet.

Oh, reason i didnt mount the ecu in the kicker was because i wanted to keep my front speakers.....gotta have the tunes http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

You wont get an idea of the wring and where it is, but heres a pic of the ecu "mounted" and in position:

http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/6962/dsc00042copyef4.jpg

Oh, also considering hosting and posting up a video of the first running of the 4age after the conversion (first "proper" running).....not that flash, but its comin straight out the extractors which was cool (and loud!). Anyone interested in that?

Well, this is a bit of a "nothing" post in my member's ride thread, but thought i'd chuck it up anyway.

Got to take the rolla for the first decent spin since i got my cast off, and i think i fell in love with the 4age all over again. It was a bit wet down here tonight, so had a LITTLE bit of fun (only getting the ass out a couple of times). Gotta say that i love the response of the 4age.........pulled out of a carpark, gave it a squirt, and it just lit them up and sat on 7000-8000rpm with the odd squeeze everynow and then to keep it up there. Sounds f$#ken awesome in the higher range! ANd did a standstill a little later on, and same again......didnt have to drop the clutch or anything, just first gear going up hill, full gas, loss of traction, then on and off the gas (hit the limiter a couple of times http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif ). Oh, and the little pickup you feel after you throw it into second when giving it a bit (TVIS???) http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tup.gif

Then on the way home from my mates, a VT tried to have a run. We were slowin down to a red light, and it went green, so off we went (me lowish revs in 2nd). Quite easily kept in front of him, and pulled away slightly even http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/greenbounce.gif Then Pulled up behind him at a set of lights (no spots next to him), and we both pulled off......had no problem again, and got "the nod" after we came back together (i backed off a bit sooner being the responsible driver i am http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif ). Was gonna try my luck against a r33 gst25 (n/a), but we couldnt get any line ups, but i think i might have been out of my league there.

All in all though, it was a fun night and reinforced my high opinion of the 4age and its place in my ke70! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif can't recommend it highly enough to anyone considering doing it!!!!!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/cool.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/cool.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/cool.gif

Thanks mate! despite my little "brag" above, i dont endorse "reckless" driving, but i do (like most no doubt) dabble in the odd straight line run to 90-100. More getting a feel of what the car is capable of now, so its good! Well worth the money so far http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Oh, got a new set of rocker covers now so gonna clean them up in my mate's sandblaster on monday and spray them, so will chuck some pics up once that's done. ALso looking to spray the rims this weekend, but we'll see how we go! Will update the thread once done http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Yeah, turbos are good http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif later on i'll probably slap a turbo onto mine, but it'll do as it is for the time being! Love the sound of a hard tuned n/a 4age though http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

Okay, cleaned up a "spare" rocker cover set i got from a mate yesterday (with the help of a mate), and have slapped em on the rolla now and it looks pretty good imo. Here's some pics from the process:

Gonna get either some stainless bolts or spray the existing ones black for the bit on the spark plug alley cover. also gotta get the rubber that surrounds that black bit as the original one had corroded. Happy as it is though as the jdm didnt even have one on there. Extractors are next (either black/aluminium look like the rocker cover), and intake manifold. Will get the engine bay looking nice eventually!

Having some issues with the fuel system at the moment though. went for a run yesterday, got to my mates and it dumped fuel out under the engine, from the chassis rail http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rant.gif For whatever reason the carbon canister is filling with fuel, and the "vent" at the bottom which normally vents excess fumes to the atmosphere is instead dumping fuel. So we think one of the hoses has been hooked up as a "return" rather than a "breather", or something along those lines. looking into it further, just gotta work out what hoses on the tank are what. Lots of fun http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

nice sandblasting job!

Yeah, the blue will be going as soon as i buy some higher temp black/silver paint. even if the paint hadnt come off, im not a fan of it either http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/fap.gif Sandblasting job isnt thaaaat good upclose, but good enough i think. My mates chamber didnt have much sand in it, and the piece of plastic they put inside under the lid (to stop the lid getting f$#ked) was a bit blurry, so was hard to see what i was doing http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif First shot at it though, so i was happy.

Extractors are definately next though, and probably do the lettering on the covers black. Then the inners of the rims i think! Slowly slowly http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

there are two lines that come up on the left side of the engine back if you are facing into it, they are paired and then seperate, switch those two over.

i waited around for a "cheap" one off the forums etc, but no luck so just went through an importer and got one. sure i paid more, but it has turned out to be good so far so no regrets really! just fiddling out little bits now, and all will be sweet (hopefully) http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

When i can be bothered, the rear bumper will go on to - not as easy as the front apparently, so will see how that goes.

Aiming to have it looking something similar to the motorfix keto within about 12 months, so getting there slowly ;)

Thanks weeman. Quads are genuine - not JDM, but KDM (NZ). Had to cut out the beaver panel a bit to get them in, but they pretty much bolted straight in once that was done. Pretty happy with how its coming along :2thumbs:
