Hi all, Ricky from Mandurah calling. I don't drive a AE86 or even a toyota instead i own a 78 Datsun Skyline Coupe. I have to confess I joined this site as you guys have got the goods where wheels are concerned and that's what I'm chasing. I have been in touch with Infinite Auto, but at present wheels from Japan are way too exy. I'm looking for some 15 or 16 x 8.5 with some neg offset. Would consider any design. Now can anyone tell me how they get on having wider rims than stock. I spoke to the Dept of Planning and Infrastructure about this issue and was told I can't go more than 30% of the original sized rim. I don't know about your AE's but mine came out with 5 inch rims which means I'm not supposed to go over 6.5 inches roughly. I'm about to put my imported fleared gaurds on which would allow me to fit 9 inch if I wanted ,providing I had the right offset. How does everyone get on running wider than legal rims, any hassles from you know who? Ricky

mitch
25th March 2009, 11:59 PM
I doubt anyone would have issues with wide rims as I don't think it's a high priority for cops. Have you had a look at the Sportmax rims? They're not from Japan IIRC, rather USA.. also they're only 8s... but they're only $800 for a set.

FLCL
26th March 2009, 12:09 AM
hiyas man. read your car write up on silviawa. fricken awesome to have something that age and in its current condition plus mods.

tbh I kinda thumb my nose at dpi. i mean if you dont drive like you deserve to be caught then you wont... shouldnt... well chances are really low anyways. I spent some coin on some rims before the aussie dollar crash so managed to organise some 15x7 0 offset volks from factory. usual haunts to try and get them. kyp, jpc, c-red, ray ferrari just to name some others you havent tried.

webbered six
26th March 2009, 03:34 PM
Thanks for the replies, and I think I'll do the same. Go for the bigger rims and play it safe on the roads, but tear the track apart. Thanks for the websites, i'll have allok. Saw the sportsmax at Infinite, not my cuppa. Meshies, ssr xr-4 longchamp are my prefered. Cheers Ricky

26th March 2009, 05:54 PM
What does Ray Ferrari deal in? My Dad has mentioned him a few times over the years but I don't really get what he does...

Alternative road wheels are permitted under the following conditions :

1. Rim width must not exceed the maximum rim width specified by the manufacturer by more than 25mm (1") (for passenger vehicles manufactured after 1st January 1973, the manufacturers rim width shall be taken as that specified on the tyre placard).

In any event, rim width shall not exceed 177.8 mm (7") unless specified by the manufacturer as standard equipment for the vehicle in question. No increase in rim width is permitted for vehicles fitted with original equipment rims in excess of 177.8 mm (7") width.

Taken from http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/1884.asp

Food for thought there, not that I suppose you care if it's legal or not.

Hey im Jamie,

Found this site after searching for info about a Levin i saw parked at Curtin last week (happened to be Todds).

Used to own an old school KE 69 Corrola (so that makes this site applicable to me sorta). Also owned a 180sx. Currently rolling in a Mitsubishi Lancer.

Always loved the rwd corrola's for their reliability, driveability and handling. Happen to be a fan of Initial D (any coincedence?)

Nice to see a site dedicated to 86's exists and with so many members in WA

Yeah a done up 240zx looks nice. But what would you to it, There are so many engine combinations that are done to them. I always liked the idea of a 1jzgte vvt or you could put a cheapo rb20det in it.

Shahzan
25th September 2009, 10:32 PM
Getting 240ZX for a show car so L28 engine with everything same as the Wangan, colours and all... but if i change my mind through time of thinking, it will be a track car with same looks as Wangan but with SR20 engine...

Hi guys.
I'm brutus and live in Forrestfield near the Perth Hills. I own a KE70 and an AE71 with a Sr20det. There's a 4agze and W55 in the shed for the KE70 with a lot of hks goodies, but I might get rid of it all. My AE71 is getting all the attention at the moment and I've just fitted BC Coilover suspension. It has a R31 rear axle and I recently fitted a KAAZ lsd and got rid of the minispool as it wa driving me nuts. I've got slotted rotors on the back and ordered my Techno Toy big brake kit about 6 weeks ago and hope to receive it soon. I've also got the Techno Toy lower control arms and tie rod end kit. I also fitted a complete polyurathane bush kit. I also fitted an Exedy H.D clutch kit. My first and last run at motorplex was a 13.51 with clutch slipping and a lot of wheelspin, hence all the upgrades. I would love for someone to organize a trackday. I am a heavy duty earthmoving mechanic and work for Rio Tinto West Angelas on a 2 and 1 roster. I used to work for Hitachi in their field service department. I'll post some pictures up as soon as possible. Enough crying and back to drinking beer!
Cheers

Hi everyone.

My name is Craig (Nick name Devs).
I've been in the Jap car scene for 10years, I specialize in car audio & security and also run a local performance shop.
My brother is buying an AE86 (would like one myself but have too many cars at the moment) but I will call it "ours" as I'll be doing all the work on it etc.

Picking it up this weekend, someones unfinished project. So i'll make a build thread once we've got it home.

Hope to meet some of you one day, maybe already know some of you from my previous workplaces in Perth (a couple of Jap car workshops).

Cheers,
Craig.

Hi everybody

Im jay, i joined this forum last night. I've been mucking around with cars since i was young and very interested in the Japanese car scene ... i really get into 'era-specific' builds. I own an CA NA s13 with SR 180 Lsd rear end and, I have no desire to go turbo.
So as you can imagine I'm not the coolest fellow at the cruises. My car is not 'fast' off the line, but its fun and sharp once at speed :)

I joined because, to be very honest, I used to frequent infinite motorsport web site hoping one day i could get a set of (era specific - yes i use that phrase a lot) rims for my S13....i used to love seeing the SSR meshies and other rims of old school japan. However that site is down (i think) and my search for that shop had me end up here.

as far as cars in general ... i'd like to one day own an 86 with a 4age 20v set up for street / grip (actually, any rear drive toyo with a 4age would be nice). Thats another thing - i love grip driving. and speaking of future cars, if anyone wants to give me a 190e or e30 i wouldn't say no =)

I would like to just maintain my car, future plans are a 1 piece tailshaft, chassis rigidity, big breaks and possibly a custom exhaust header....oh and those era specific rims...wide japanese meshies in 16'' or 17'' would be nice.

Cheers

Jay

Hi all, I'm David from Ireland, been living in Perth over 2 years now. I have a stock Ae71 panel van needing a little tlc and a ke70 panel van which I half way through a 20 valve blacktop conversion. Hope to have the ae71 on the road in the next few weeks to use as a daily driver. And then concentrate on finishing the 20 valve conversion in the ke70.

Hello everyone! name's Steve i live down in albany but hoping to move up the perth sometime in the near future. Iv been lurking the site for over a year now just admiring everyones build threads haha. So i thought i'd join up now as i have bought myself 2 unfinished ae86 projects early last year (which i suggest never to do! haha) after deciding it was time for a change from my s13 sr20det which never seemed to run right after i got it back home. So with my love of hachi's the ae86 was the way i wanted to go. So almost a year on i have one nearly back on the road which will be my daily and the other im hoping to do a full restoration with a gze, if money persists haha. Anyway thats it and hope to meet some of you in the future!!

Hey guys,

Iam in the process of moving across to Perth from Brisbane.

I have picked myself up a super clean AE85 Levin that has had a bit of work done to it... Just a bit.

I am super keen to get involved in some track events etc. I have grown up racing karts etc so I guess I am keen on some grip work however I'll probably end up making a fool of myself at a drift event at some stage.

If you see me around feel free to come have a chat! I don't know many people over here so always happy to meet a fellow toyota lover!

I'll be cruising around in this sexy creature...

Hopefully I'll see you at the track events in the near future! If anyone has any information on this / wants to help a Perth noob out feel free to shoot me a PM!!!

Hi everyone,

My name's kitty, I reside in Brisbane, and I own a stock 84 hatchback. I joined the site a little while ago to hopefully get some help and information with things I'd like to do to my car down the track, as I'm fairly new to things.

Thanks in advance and hopefully I won't ask too many already answered questions.

Hey everyone,
My name's Matt, I've been screwing around with ke70's/ae71's for a while now. Since I finished the 1uz conversion in my cruiser its just been rolla rolla rolla. I currently have two smallports and a volvo diff sitting at home staring at me. Since Perth is harder to find parts for these sorts of cars I've been slowly building up my parts collection and making do with what I have. I hope to source more parts in the future from here when I save up the cash after my travels (seeing all of the parts available almost makes me want to pull out of going to europe and diving straight into the ae71).
I'm extremely interested in joining some sort of car meet, I totally missed out on the 'toyota's in the park' show :(.

So yeah just getting by in my ae71 4ac with a 32/36 weber, ae86 suspension, cambertops, xt130 lca's, hybrid ke70 brakes on ae86 hub (I know what your thinking, but I am saving up for 15 inch rims and the FC conversion/Pajero master cylinder).

Thanks for all the info

Hi everyone,
Been lurking for awhile. ..thought I should introduce myself.
I'm an old bloke who has been playing with cars since the 1960's. My first car was an old appendix J Holden FJ racecar that I managed to drive on the street ... great fun!

Two years ago I bought a 4age 3 rib powered Westfield SE to use for hillclimbs and speed events. Its been great to learn Westy driving. ...very light 565kgs and with street legal tarmac tyres...good braking and mid corner speeds. It is a bit slow once you get into 4th though. My other car is a Sunbeam Tiger (1155kgs) which has a factory fitted Ford Windsor V8..345bhp and 330 ft lbs and a top loader. Very different to the little 3 rib 4age!

Im getting a Silvertop ready for the Westy...ill run it with an Adaptronic e420d and cop ignition for awhile. I then intend to turbo it with std compression and low blow boost..around 8 psi to get some extra torque for hillclimbs.

Any other 4age owners from the SW of WA on here?

Cheers all
David.

Hi guys and girls,

I've been a lurker for the past few years, and only just joined a few days ago. Decided that I wished to be a member of an active forum, and not one where the server is down & administrator is a c*^t.

No RWD AExx chassis for me, I've never found one on good enough condition to be worth buying. But I do have 3 FWD AE92's :)

Keen to stick around and maybe even find a RWD AExx chassis'... ;)
