G'day everyone, after reading the KE70 underrated/overrated thread it gave me inspiration to post my ke in here. I bought it nearly 3 weeks ago tommorow for $300, it comes with chopped springs monza gearknob and a fooked clutch, it wasnt running but i soon fixed that and now it purrs (its only a shitty 4k-c), but it cant go anywhere cause of the clutch. Anyway, it comes with the usual rust, only in the boot, it looks like it never been in a major accident, chassis is straight as and there are no weld lines anywhere indicating cut and paste lol.

So i have stripped the interior something fierce, its so light i can push it sideways across the dirt. It will be sporting a 4age 16v conversion very soon from the help of (hopefully) Dimitri at Kaizen Garage.

Future mods:

Nardi classic steering wheel (best feeling wheel imo)
Harder suspension front and back, and some good quality shocks
Some nice deep Watanabe's or some longchamps
Welded diff (till i can afford a T-18)
Sigma LCA's with RA40 rack ends or tie rod ends? Which ones?
Camber tops
Strut brace
Possibly a Bride seat
Aliminum sheeting door cards
Seat Harness
Cant think of anymore....

Will be doing the conversion very soon, anybody keen to help out? Would like some knowlegable people around http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif Im on the Gold Coast aswell. I will post some pics up to show you how Ghetto it is and my interior....or no interior really.

Breno: Quite a bit of prep, depends what method you use to get most of the sound deadining off, i used a heat gun and scraper. And then i got a wire brush attachment to my cordless drill and just brushed away till it was bare metal, wax and grease remover then paint!! I used Supershit Auto paint on the passenger side and it was a bit dull, so i went down to dulux and got some better stuff and it was cheaper, and it came up more glossier and stuck better, used that one on the drivers side, gonna give the whole lot a recoat though.

So you did find a decent one, nice work mate. When you want to get rid of those door trims let me know...mine's brown and instead of getting a proper door trim I get synthetic shit and a damn pouch.

cool man, looks good!
White came out good on the inside, makes the cars soo much cleaner

i had mine all clean like that and then i got all overspray on the white from doing black stripes through it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/crazy.gif

where bouts in goldy are you? sounds close to nerang, as dulux (3D) is just 'down' from supercheap there as like you said.

hate to tell you this but clutch lines are going to be hard to do with the engine in, will have a hard time getting the drill in there to do the master. Looking good but, give us a yell if you need any info.

ae71
11th January 2007, 11:12 AM
yes i was just thinking hte same thing, im doing my master atm for the clutch and you need some room to work/get a drill into.. actually putting the motor in is about the last thing..

11th January 2007, 11:20 AM

11th January 2007, 01:01 PM
Crap so the clutch master and all that will be hard aye, cant drill from the inside? Anyway i wired it all up the smorning so its all good just need more parts now.

Japlish: i may have one on the go, but if it doesnt fit ill def hit you up for that one.

driftke70
11th January 2007, 01:30 PM
i am pretty damn desperate for a 71 tail shaft, i have a t 18 one that doesnt really fit too well at the back, will swap with you so if you ever want to do a t18 diff conversion your set.

ae71
11th January 2007, 01:37 PM
cant drill from the inside?[/b]

you might be able to, but you will have to pull out more interior, like the heater and shit, its possible but it would have saved you alot of dramas if you had dont it from the engine bay

ae71
11th January 2007, 01:38 PM
the t-18's input slpine is diffrent form a a-series t-50

Thats no worries, ive pulled the heater box out, ripped off all that foam crap and the dash is out, and the old pedal box is out.

ae71
12th January 2007, 12:44 AM
yeah you should be able to do it then.. just the only drama you might have is marking where you need to drill. i made a template from the holes on my ae71 shell and cut i out of a plastic oil container, bolting it to a near by screw i marked on the fire wall exactly where i needed to drill. worked well i was only about 2mm high, a slight file and it was all good.

Well today i did the fuel pump, i mounted it in the boot (looks race spec), put a new feeder line and used the old feeder line for the return line (thanks for the advice Grant). And also picked up a Custom one-piece tailshaft, its so much lighter than the standard ones and the uni joints in it are so big compared to stock ones aswell. Im not sure if ive hooked up the feeder and return lines right, is some one able to confirm it for me? I hooked up the feeder line to the front the fuel rail closest to the radiator and return line the other end?

Here is some pics of progress, ive still got to wire it up which is only to wires anyway.

Good stuff mate, glad to see its coming along.
Not sure about the legality of mounting the fuel pump there... but hey, just as long as you dont say to any officers 'your not going to check the boot are you???'

lol if you wanna go all out, you could put it in a lexan box http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

Cant be sure if you have the lines right, cant remember too well how i did mine and cant see too easiely from the engine bay. But front sounds about right

Got some new goodies for this thing, should have the thing started this week sometime. Brand new radiator with bottom outlet swapped to the same side as the top tank inlet. And a set of headers of Ant at Kaizen, slave cylinder and the usual other shit to get it started.

BLOODY SHIT!!!! Im getting pissed off now, stupid starter motor, went to crank it yesterday and it wouldnt even crank!!!! I wish the guy i bought the engine off gave me a starter motor with it, cause now its more money spent on the bloody starter, hopefully the auto electricians can fix it today so i can turn it over by the weekend, dont want to have to wait till monday. Sometimes i just wanna give up....

Yea, its tought work mate, stick it through tho its all worth the shit these cars give us.

Check the positive connection on the starter motor, if you turn the key and all you hear is a click and nothing else it could be its not connecting right.
Ive had a few times this has happened just before going to work and its just been the dodgy clip has slipped off a bit

20sil
9th February 2007, 01:11 PM
I took it down to the Auto Electricians and they said its stuffed, so its going to cost me $250 to get it reconditioned, thats a might big chunk out of my wallet i didnt need.

v-tec
9th February 2007, 01:15 PM
try find another one man, i wouldnt say its worth $250 just for a starter motor. besides... toyota probably sells em new for that much

Course_Out
9th February 2007, 01:53 PM
Geez, last time I paid $250 for a starter motor it had a 4age attached to it!

I got my 4ac starter rewound and a new solenoid for $90. That was trade price but it sounds a bit harsh to charge $250!

20sil
9th February 2007, 03:08 PM
Well got quoted $675 for a new one from Toyota, and i rang around to see if anybody had any, no one got any, so stuff im just gonna bite the bullet and get it done, i need this car running.

20sil
20th February 2007, 07:10 PM
Well i made a big accomplishment today, i finally got it running, after all the shit ive been through it finally runs and sounds fucken awesome. Now for some suspension and an exhaust so the neighbours dont get cranky.

Ill take a video and post it, not that most of you havent heard a 16v on idle purring away with just the manifold hanging off.
