5th January 2007, 03:51 PM
hey all,

though i would start a thread about my shitty ke70,

its current spec is:

engine:
4k-c half way out,
4ac about to go in over then next few days or so

drive train:
exedy single organic plate clutch (new)
avrage condition t-50
borgwaner diff

suspension/brakes:
ae71 struts/brakes
cut springs all around, t-18 rears
farked shocks
ae71 brakes (work better than the ke70's, pads with more meat)

rims:
4x ma61's 14x7 +8
4x of cheviots 14x7 -5
2x of leighton house 15x6.5 +35
5x of csx
5x of ke70 stockies
currently, chevitots front, ma61's rear

other stuff:
360mm leather nardi
3 3/4" tacho, making way for a ae71 or posably t18 dash. - tacho ditched now have tacho dash!
black bonnet

parts to go in:
2x ebay reclinable seat
thermo fan
t-series diff
jdm 86 calipers with rebuild kits
bumpy cam!

spares:
ae71 shell
good t-50
t-series minus the centre (as well as my other one)

i think thats about covered everything, I'm part way taking the 4kc out to upgrade slightly to 4ac and 5speed (prase the lord)...

my future plans include, 86 struts (chasing now) kyb shocks allround, 4link, 8&6kg springs, swaybars, rebuilt t-series diff and lsd, repair or rust in rear archs, flaring/lipping gard allround, hi grip street tyres, maybe semi slicks, 4AGE!!!

will chuck some pics up of my project as it is now soon

thanks for reading my exesive babble about my crap car, feel free to leave positive feed back of what you think of my ke70...

Sounds like the car is going to become quite interesting mate

Can i ask why your bothering for a 4ac instead of just waiting till you can afford a 4age?

i understand 4age obviously isnt everyones cup of tea straight up

Brendo
5th January 2007, 07:52 PM
cause he has the 4ac right there now and waiting, and the 4k...well im sure your well aware of the 4k's standard form abilities lol.

i think he plans to learn all he can with the little power from 4ac then get a 4age

v-tec
5th January 2007, 08:06 PM
Fair call, i spose if its a good running 4ac then yea it should go well

lol... my 4ac ran worse than a 4k corolla with 5 people inside

Bustin_86
5th January 2007, 08:19 PM
Stop misquoting shit, it takes me to logn to catch on to what you are saying!

Lol, probably didnt help.... you still owe me a pig t18! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

Brendo
5th January 2007, 09:01 PM
stop spamming aaron's thread homo's

ae71
5th January 2007, 11:02 PM
yeah v-tec i drove the ae71 when it was still in rego and it has quite abit more power than the 4K, also with the 4speed i only get around 300km per tank aprox, with mostly highway driving... even though its not the best 4ac, it definately gose much better than the $k and im half way to convering to 4age...

i need suspension and brakes before i go 4age, but when these are done the next thing will definatly be a ge.. plus the 4ac still has enough power for me to learn more, hell i have had a little fun with what the 4K has to offer which isnt much, so i will be happy..

i brought another t-series, there is the other one that joash hepled distroy the centre of, its good for axels, housing and a tailshaft....

4K is now out!!!

http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/615/lookno4krj1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

at the end of the day with the shed cramed full of shit as well as the ae71 pieled almost up to the roof i called it a day...

http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/2317/shedfullsh9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

ae71
5th January 2007, 11:03 PM
tomorow, will swap x-members after work so i can move the ae71, mite put the 4K back in it to make room

ae71
5th January 2007, 11:35 PM
please excuse joash as he is a little pissed and spells worse than me...

you can have my 4k-c as im needing the 4ac

v-tec
6th January 2007, 10:11 AM
Sounding good mate, yea if the 4ac is that much better than the old 4k you had then good move for sure.
hell, if you spend as much on suspension bits as you could potentially on a 4age converion (after the car has reached stock ae71 status - driveline wise) you could probly cut through corners better than most of the 4age fellas.

good luck with it mate

driftke70
6th January 2007, 01:49 PM
well now that hes gone 4ac should he ever choose to go ge it will be an easier process.

ae71
6th January 2007, 04:27 PM
yeah v-tec thats the plan anyway... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

yeah it is easyer to go ge, well i have to get rid of the ae71 out of my yard so taking the 4ac out seemed a good idea.. only a few bolts and wiring to go ge now... and fuel...

but yes, i dont mean to sound pussy but the 4ac is definatly more fun than the 4K, will go ge but not just yet, when the other is done then it will be time.. by then i will be sick of the 4ac

ae71
9th January 2007, 01:40 PM
depends if i can get my arse into gear... ill start on he pedal box today maybe, or clean up the engine bay is its fairly grubby, or maybe even the radiator support pannel... lots to do, will get stcuk into it after lunch

got some sprinter struts comlete with stocko springs/shocks and brakes, also included steerign arms, will cut the springs and get them in before too long... the pads/rotors are soooooo much bigger than ae71/ke70!!!!

Course_Out
10th January 2007, 09:17 PM
Hahaha, it's frightening how small the ke70/ae71 gear is compared to sprinter stuff isn't it?

Looking good man, looks like sedans are taking over the world lately......

Hahaha, it's frightening how small the ke70/ae71 gear is compared to sprinter stuff isn't it?

Looking good man, looks like sedans are taking over the world lately......[/b]

yeah and to think thats what comes stock, and i thought the ke70 brakes where the best thing since sliced bread, i had drums all round on my pervious first car...

update: at the end of today i have completely removed the pedal box from the ke70. also while im at it i though i would remove most of that spong and tar sound detening from behind the dash, so far got one shopping bag full and im only half done. i spent quite a bit of time trying to make up a template to drill/cut the holes in the fire wall for the clutch master. i have figured it out sort of, using one of the bolts that hold the brake lines inplace as a starting point i drilled out the holes to mark. have one hole drill but as its getting late thought i better packup the drill for the night to keep the neibours happy..

tomorows goles are, finnish the pedel box, hopefully get some of the dash in back in, the fluid line for the clutch.. i need a hard line from the brake splitter near the master to the passenger side wheel well..

as you can see i cbf pulling out the rest of it to get that last little bit of spongy shat...

good stuff man, mine is all done its a pain in the ass, dont worry too much about the master cylinder bolt holes and main hole being spot on as its really just bolted to the pedal box and firewall is just a layer inbetween.

mine were a bit off but i just kept filing away till it fitted, will get pics of mine up soon in my thread

ae71
11th January 2007, 11:14 AM
oh yeah, i wanted mine to be as close as posible, so it looks nice and neat.. but i hear what your saying will finnish it up today, the pedal box that is..

ae71
12th January 2007, 12:49 AM
got the pedal box in, clutch master and most of the dash... just need to plug in the cluster and put the suround back in and that another job finnishd..

20sil
12th January 2007, 08:52 AM

ae71
2nd February 2007, 12:31 PM
i got some 175's put onto a pair of my cheviot wheels to see how they look, plus i was sick of stockies on the back, so currently i have the ma's on the front... because of the offset the gards needed to be lipped i tryed just foldin the inner lip up but tthat wasnt enough, i got my old man to lip them and cut out the rust while he was at it..

ae71
2nd February 2007, 12:40 PM
only one has been done so far, i was going to do it my self be he just dose such a good job i recon i let him do it... would probaly of looked better if it was the same all around to get rid of the line at the bottem of the door and where it gose down to the mud flap, but atleast it dosent scrub that much anymore..

ok scott (pro!!)saw and fixed the problem, my reverse light cable wasnt pluged on and had been touching on the zorst when it was hot and had melted the wires abit...

will get it for you man,

the bumpers will probaly be going on with zippie ties.. i havnt looked at the bumpers and brackets yet.. mite even try get sum sprinter rear brackets cause from memory i think they where fairly close.

got a heap of used tyres yesty so im good for rears, desperately need some fronts though, been on the hills tonight and had a few lockups cause of the lack of grip they have on the bad surfaces...

if anyone has some good 14/15" used tyres they will sell cheap i will take them if they still have good grip dosent matter if they arnt too far from the markers just as long as they hav enough if i get pulled over.. want them in a pefurably in a 15/195/50 but will be happy with 185

Went for a drive the other night in the twisties weapon, new 4ac has pepped it up a lot. Lots nicer to drive http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif I think Aaron also lashed out and got some new pads... and apparently he has a exhaust brake on order.

So there's an update for the internet underprivileged http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

13th April 2007, 02:02 PM
Dont use synthetic oil if its hasnt been using it all along its not good for the engine ive been told by about 100 people only to use it if you get a complete rebuild or if the engine has been using it since its birth lol something to do with the oil not sticking to the metal???

Brendo
13th April 2007, 02:07 PM
dont use synthetic in a 4c az. just run of the mill 15-50 will doah or 20-50 if u feeling happy. and an oil filter? ghetto engines dont have these replaced!

ae71
16th April 2007, 06:39 PM
lol

justin too poor to aford castrol, cause you used it all ya barstard, had to buy some shitty shell 'perfomance' fluid....

hhmm... the main reson i wanted to use synthetic was because it is rummored to give an extra hp or 2.. plus the added bonus of having the 'claimed' wear benifits.. yes a new oil filter, had new oil but an old filter. dont worry it was the cheapest of the full synthetics http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

4ac build is on, just need a donor motor with a good head,
have:
bigger cam
ge bigport pistons, rods and alright used barings
1x 40mm side draft mikuni solex (desiding if i should go single or twin)

Plan: to use the ge rods and pistons, bigger cam, shaved head, bigger carb/s. thinking i should get around 80hp thats 20 short of a standard ge, just carb and minus a cam lol. with the shaved head, pistons, new rings im aiming for about 10:1 compression..

would like peoples opinion on if i should use twin 40mm or just get the one i have rejetted. bare in mind that this is a budget engine build.

and who would make the cheapest but still good enough quality to use rings?

i would like to thank scott brown (brown eye) for all the parts he has donted to me, being a mate, for all of the help and advice and also the trailer home at short notice when my old 4ac finally gave way http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

thanks to justin for supllying the rear t-18 cutties (perfect hight) that are slightly better than ke70 ones.

Brendo
16th April 2007, 06:53 PM
if u really want to build a 4ac i spose go for it, a 3tc would be better, but really 4age ftw

put twin carbs on it anyway, and ffs get new bearings haha

Bustin_86
17th April 2007, 10:31 AM
Aaron, get new bearings bro. Dont cost all that much, and at least you know they wont let go.

I would go twin carb dude. Your gonna need it to keep up to the ge's and for the added cost, its worth it i think.

So happy its all coming together for you http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif Im looking forward to assembling the mongrel motor with you.

You know that if you need help or some bank i will always be there to help you out in those respects lol...

What the fuck? Scott gets mention for being a mate but i dont?! i have to put up with your ugly ass more than he does... goddamn adoptive fathers hahahahaha. Kidding http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

ae71
17th April 2007, 02:50 PM
yes, mite have to sell some of my stuff, t-series shaft, housing, maybe even fix the old one and sell it!!! i would be uber cashed up then.. almost enough to build the whole motor!!

only need carbs, rings, h/gasket, and a new 4ac

Bustin_86
17th April 2007, 02:50 PM
ACL bearings... only be like 150 or something!

Brendo

Bustin_86
17th April 2007, 03:59 PM
nah....get a hellah thin metal one or something...

ae71
17th April 2007, 05:13 PM
the barings look ok, 150 for a set fuck that, thats not budget

i think a genuine toyota one is about $80

i got a price on a custom 2mm copper one when i was thinking of going turbo, it was $115+gst+post with me providing a template

a thinner one should be a bit cheaper

Brendo
17th April 2007, 11:54 PM
yeah dig up your old 4ac turbo idea, cause u have to spend heaps of money to get any power out of it otherwise, it wouldnt be worth it

my 3k for example, nice amount of NA power, but i wouldnt build one from scratch as it would cost upwards of about 8 grand

ae71
18th April 2007, 04:15 PM
yes well its just rediculess to sepnd that amount of money on a 3k http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

n/a 4ac will be much better than turboing the barstard. it will be cheaper, more reliable (i.e. not changing motors every weekend). it will wont run like a 3legged dog off boost. the power will be more useable, will sound much better, more sleeper. brap brap braaaaaaaap is less attention getting than wwsssssss ptch. but really i want a strong budget motor that will last more like 15,000+ km's that i can get in thrash all day long.

i much rather revs over spool, aiming to have the motor revving to about 7500 reliably. it will do it stock but after a while the bottem end lets go and makes a nice little hole in the side of the block.... as would a stock bottem end with turbo. i figured ge revs to 8 stock so 7.5 would be fine with with the stock ge pistons and rods. better rod bolts should prvent the bottem end from braking, it isnt going to have much more compression that a stock ge (aiming for about 10:1, big ports are 9.4:1 ) so the rods them selfs shouldn't brake. just need to improve the head a little, porting, cam and im looking into dobble valve springs.

Brendo
18th April 2007, 05:17 PM
thats why i didnt build one i bought one, saved about 10k building an engine to that level of performance.

i think u would be bored with your worked 4ac in no time i would be, stock 4age is only just enough power to have fun... and prob be cheaper than your build.

but anyway u guys more into grip now hey, u wouldnt be able to drift anyway with 4ac haha

Bustin_86
18th April 2007, 05:18 PM
Grip ftw yo!

Azza, it will be good man. Better than what we think it will be i reckon.

Embelish the rest of money into brakes/suspension http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

ae71
21st April 2007, 05:25 PM
sure 500, plus recon it, fuel, clutch, rwd... more like 1500+ and i dont want a gettoed setup like i have now and in the near future

i only have 1! point left, last thing i need is a ge.... and i need suspension before i have anything as crazy as that. if the built 4ac is still going when i buy a ge i should be able to sell it for big $$ to some ricer.

so not dumb, fun and cheap. damn, stock 4ac plus brakes/suspension with be fun. i have fun with cutties and smoking brakes (last night lol).

project grip advances due to some bargining/wapping. i have landed a 32/36 weber!

i have got it on, just need to make up a filter and breather filter. bye bye emissions shit! made a aluminium plate to block off the exhaust to the intake (wtf where they thinking) as well as removing all unessesary piping only keeping a line to the dizzy and one to the cam cover.

hopefully it runs!!! will get some pics up of the bay later, looks alot less cluttered. i also found some working standard rear shocks and a standard panhard with ONE nolathain bush! not 2 but 1

i would say at the moment it would have givin it about 5hp, it isnt running properly yet has to come off again <_< hopefully it will be going to its full potential soon, it did start to kickout in 3rd going around a sweeper lol (wet). has most power between 3000-4500 but it need some timing put in and it will really go nicely. has more crackel from the zorst.

These abit more in it than i thought, too me about 2 days in total. alot of muching around and fiddling took up time.

pics of my butiful weber and hawt 4ac lol looks alot tidier without the standard bulky airbox and emissions pipes/tubes

the hole in the exhaust manifold that goes through to the inlet that i presume you blocked is there to help the manifolds warm up quicker, take pipes out that go from the inlet to that round thing and to the exhaust and cut it off and bend it over to seal it up and then jsut ditch the rest of that pipeing, will get rid of more shit, in the end you will prob find more gains from removing all the emmision gear than the weber

ae71
8th July 2007, 05:48 PM
i made up a plate to block it off completely, its chockers with shit. the intake and exhaust mani's are bolted together so they would warm up fairly quickly anyway... not sure that it is there for that reson being that (once apon a time) exhaust gases have a way of getting there, the only place for them to go is into the intake (perfomance robbing). would make no diffrence if it was left there and i dont want more exhaust leaks from a cut and bent pipe....?

edit: thanks for the thought though james

kewagon
9th July 2007, 03:33 PM
i have done the cutting and bending of the pipe, i cut it down and bent it ove, clamped it up tight in the vive and pressed it over itself another 2 or 3 times, jsut gets rid of this big useless thing and neatens stuff up, its up to you though man,

ae71
9th July 2007, 03:49 PM
i think i will just leave it forthe time being, not too worried about looks, theres wiring going everywhere and battle damage.

i will get rid of it when i get the new carbs and maybe custom extractors, will have to just play it by ear. but will definately go when i get the new carbs, cause the mani will have to be custom.

ae71
11th September 2007, 02:31 PM
hell yeah.. heaps better responce. no increse in power, i took it for a quick thrash in the rain when i got it running and it gose well.

skidded that roundy near myplace in 3rd at about 2000-2500 revs was cool as just power over cause the front has no grip. then again when i turned into my street so it must have more toque (hasnt missed once yay). the stronger spark makes up for the large amount of fuel going in.

might have to take of the head for a shave and put that bumpy cam in ;)

new temporary front springs are in.

I'm guessing that they are at least 8kg because they are heaps thicker than my 6kg TRD springs, makes them look like spaghetti in comparison.

gets plenty of drift bounce

ae71
17th September 2007, 10:39 AM
low :D

for some reason im not getting bump steer with them i thought i would. dose the job suprisingly well for springs i got for free :P

the cut standard spring has 2 coils cut off. had to cut off 3 coils for it to sit low enough with the stiff ones. they maybe abit more than 8kg because they are heaps thinker than 6kg.

Bustin_86

eeerrr i don't seem to get bump steer man, t-18 had wicked bad bump steer with the cutties i almost died once or twice going over crests at speed.

it bumps but doesn't bump steer

Bustin_86
17th September 2007, 11:42 AM
It was bump steering like a ho out at 'luna man. Spring rate etc doesn't affect bump steer so much, its just the angle of the lower control arm in low cars that causes it.

Yeah '72 was a right hoooo when it had cutties. Better now it has proper sus, but still needs RCA's... still bump steers to much.
