While sitting at a mates house last week, some weird guy walked up his driveway, we didn't take much notice until he came down to our room. He was some weird German guy that asked if we knew the mechanic up the road, then said that he'd sent him down and offered us his KE70 for $400, so me and my mate Brenton went halves. It's in alright condition, bar the blown head gasket and a bit of rust in the back but it's the XX model so it has the very luxurious boot and petrol release and a nice 5-speed. Drives ok but he took the rego with him. I was most impressed though by his name. When he wrote out the receipt we discovered his name was Dragan...hence the 'Dragan KE' label.

Anyway, within ten minutes of owning it it had no seats and very little carpet but no camera so we missed the first day or so's progress. Here's the pictures.

Stock form, minus some interior:

Then yesterday we got stuck into painting the interior:

Today we decided to chop the springs till we sort out the real suspension gear:

It's pretty safe to say these won't fit until we get those guards flared...front and rear

Looks cool but.

Had to settle for hotwires on the rear and stocko's on the front because only three hotwires have tyres:

Eventually we're planning a 4AG, sprinter front struts, we have the Sigma control arms to go in but they need a bit of work, sierra's in the rear, all the usual stuff.

Enjoy.

Cool little project
Dont paint it purple or black, go camo!

Andrew
17th January 2007, 10:33 PM
It'll most likely be purple in the end but that's a LONG way down the track. Paint's nice enough as it is and far from top of the importance list...camo would look pretty tough though.

Big thanks to V-tec for coming over and helping us sort out the control arm shit. Big help

Well, after a bit of dicking around with the Sigma arms, we finally got them in with much swearing involved. We had to get a steel tube thing made up for it, then get it drilled and it still pushed the bushing shit out so it made it more of a bitch to fit, then to top it off our tie rod ends were fucked so we had to replace those. It was probably worth it in the end, looks tough and it means we get to do the ol' sneaky drive to the wheel alignment place TWICE which is always fun.

Anyway, to the pictures... Even tried the sneaky artsy one with my car in there.

Tom was clearly happy with the results...

Well, that's probably all for a while...from now on it starts getting expensive and I've got my real car to worry about and Brenton has some shit to pay so it'll slow down. Probably just fix the head gasket, weld the diff and apparently through a connection we can get a cheap cage..we'll just have to see how cheap.

At the moment Brenton's attempting to flare the guards...I was helping until some knobhead showed up that knew Brenton's sister and my brother from primary school and started talking all kinds of bull shit so I reverted to Adam's house...

Guards take a little more time then we expected but after the wheel allignment yesterday we raided the tyre wall and got 175/70's on the brake cookers for the front...should look stacks better.

165/55 http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

Andrew
23rd January 2007, 06:20 PM
Haha, I wish. These were the only pairs of 175/14's, everything else was 185/14's. They were free though so we can't complain too much.

Andrew
6th February 2007, 11:40 PM
Um, not sure. Cut it in half so I think it's like 4 coils?

I doubt it's legal height, I can check for you tomorrow if you'd like though. Should probably take some pictures too with front guards flared, brake cookers on the front and maybe someone can help us work out what the fuck to do with this falcon webber sitting on it at the moment.

I have got a 32/36 weber on my 4K and I am using the follwing Jets with some success

Primary Secondary
Idle Jets 50 55
Main Jet 125 135
Air Correct 160 165

That will give you a rough start if it is a 32/36 but some of the Falcon webers were 34's. Weber jets are around the $4 each mark and it can take some stuffing around. If you are mechanically minded you can get a set of jet drill for aruond $35 of ebay, not a bad investment if you are going to be doing a few cars for friends and such. I still have to stick the wide band up the bum on mine to check it properly but the seat of the pants feel is pretty good.

Cheers
Paul
