Hey everyone my name is Andrew, been reading this forum for awhile now. all your ke's/ae's are awesome. Some really good ideas and good inspiration to get mine looking/going good :)

Heres my car, its a 82mdl stock as a rock atm. I'm the second owner. its got 81,000kms genuine kms on it. full toyota service history and log books. interior is mint (there was some plastic on the driver seat still from factory!). i brought it from the auctions and it had been smashed :( its an XX model too. leather g/knob, tacho dash and 5spd. the 4k and drivetrain are strong.

Here's some pics when i brought it home
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/132837.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/132838.jpg

Here's what it looks like now: (this was my first go at lining up panels, so go easy on me :P)

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/132839.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/132840.jpg

Pic of the interior. seats are really puffy and soft. havn't sagged one bit
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/132841.jpg

Plans for it are to get it registered then:

Falcon springs (got them)
Sports steering wheel (on its way, need boss kit though. anyone?)
respray and flared guards(boot lid and bonnet will be black)
extractor for the 4k (got them)
2" system
I've got some 15x6.5 ive got my eyes on ;)
Locker

later down the track 20v s/top t50 etc.

thanks
Andrew

Looks like a solid base man... do a 4a conversion and just stick a 4ac in it or something until you can afford a ge lol... it will get you around and be a lot quicker than a 4kc!!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

slidn70
4th March 2007, 06:52 PM
Thanks for the welcomes http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Bustin 86 - I might look into a 4ac conver, if i organise myself over the holidays.

Hilton - i brought it from the auctions, but the car was originally from balwyn in melbourne.

Starni - only rust is from scratches in the tyre well. two tiny surface rust marks about the size of a 20cent peice. i was very surprised, so i had to buy it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif got it for $400.

hopefully i get a rwc tomorrow so i can drive around and start the mods!

Got the roadworthy inspection today, didnt go too bad. need a windscreen and new front shocks.

Since i need new shocks/cartiridges on the front is there anything i can upgrade them with instead of replacement ke70 ones? The monroe gt's for the ke70 strut are like 250$. It will be getting the falcon springs soon and she will be real low. so i want short throw shocks.

Any other model car's shocks i can use in the ke70 struts?

thanks fellas http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

starni_boy
5th March 2007, 05:21 PM
contact ajps if you want some good shocks.. his name on this forum is truenosedan. he sells lots of parts from his warehouse.

Bustin_86
5th March 2007, 05:54 PM
Fark thats a rip off bro! get some kyb excel g short stroke shocks for a similar price lol.

Talk to Lawson (truenosedan) and explain to him what you need. I highly recommend him and deal with him as much as i financially can lol http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif He will hook you up and he is very flexible.

Lawson lluurrvvee!

Hey guys do these kyb's bolt straight into the ke70 strut?

i saw some ac delco crap on ebay for 50$ was thinking about them to get my by for the mean time. need the shocks here (in melb) and fitted in 7 days before my inspection/permit runs out.

green_boy_91
5th March 2007, 07:39 PM
yew even another ke70 to join all of us there getting even as popular as 86's these days hey,
g/l with the build up man http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tup.gif

Gilly
6th March 2007, 08:19 PM
yeah get the ACdelco shitters to pass roady.

you really want AE86 or T18 struts to convert to coilovers. or just 86 struts. the difference being the strut tubes are different sizes, there are no real aftermarket shock options for the KE70 strut as it's too small. the 86 strut size obviously has a lot of options and aftermarket support.

its becoming a well known fact now that T18 struts share the same dimensions as an 86 strut. HOWEVER they have a different spring perch (what the spring sits on) so they are better suited to convert to coilvers as there is no aftermarket T18 springs available http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

slidn70
6th March 2007, 10:17 PM
Good info Gilly, thanks mate.

Hey i measured the O.D of my strut tubes and they're 45mm. Is that normal? i think some ke's came with 45mm and 51mm.

Atm i'm probably gonna get the cheapy shocks for the rwc (if they make them for 45mm struts), then later do a T18/AE86/RA60 strut change.

driftke70
7th March 2007, 02:05 AM
sounds like your on the right track

slidn70
7th March 2007, 05:23 PM
Ok, well they dont have the 45mm cheap ac delco cartridges available, so now i'm not sure what to do!?

Anyone got some complete ke70 or t18 etc struts with good shocks in melb that i can just swap in?

I'd need them by the end of the week. i'll pick them up where ever you are. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

slidn70
8th March 2007, 06:20 PM

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/133628.jpg

ae86 front struts/hubs/brakes assembly. (stock ke70 side by side)
Kyb cartiridge inserts (suit ra40/sa63/ra65)
T18 LCA's

Brakes are much bigger, should be noticible improvement.

This is how "keto" looks atm http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/133631.jpg

Also fitted new rear shoes and new wheel cylinders. Falcon springs will go in after its registered.

struts, lca's, ae86 brakes all in. tomorrow i will bleed them (and the rears) and take it for a spin.

For some reason my wheel alignment is way out. drivers front wheel is turned to the right while the passenger side is straight

James86
17th March 2007, 05:59 PM

Radiator support is a bit bent, but it will straighten up ok. in on of the pics you can see a scratch on the bumper. that is from the roo's claw!

driftke70
18th March 2007, 06:50 PM
crazy, you hit it exactly the same as i did, same damage and everything, i even got a claw mark in my bumper, ahh well, youll be pleased to know you can straighten the rad support with your bare hands, and its not that hard to fix up.

lookin good otherwise.

But its now sporting a blue bonnet and a beige guard on a brown car http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif looks pretty pathetic..

All up it cost me $160 to get it straight again so thats put some of my plans on hold for the moment. By the end of the week though i should have some good pics to show everyone http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hey Gilly, just saw your reply in your thread about the falcon springs. mine sit at about 265mm. it sits nice, but the springs popped out 1st time we dropped it off the stands, so we just turned the springs around so that it sat better on the base. I didnt flip them over though like you mentioned in your thread..

Yeah man, wouldnt mind coming out with guys. The 4k is real slow thou. not sure if i could keep up. plus open diff is gayy, really unpredictable. (spun out across 3 lanes of traffic on the way to work on sat http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif ) was really embarassing.

My keto loves the gravel and dirt tracks on my mate's property!

ke70dave
26th March 2007, 12:04 PM
haha finally someone else who has an unbeliveably slow 4k!!!

although its slow as a rock, its interesting how you dont really get much slower, when you put 5ppl in the car.

my old car (FWD mazda 323) used to suffer soo badly when you put 5 people in the car, but the good ole 4k doesnt seem to be effected anywhere near as much, its still slow, but its not slower that it is with only me.

definatly time for a 4age though:p

Next step: remove all side mouldings and pin stripes, then paint the front half in matt black. (temperary job until i do the full respray)

Havn't updated this in awhile. She still going strong.

The front end is matt black now and most of the pinstriping and door moulds are gone now. I got my extractors on too. helped a bit. need to make the rest of the exhaust.

Been helping my friend out with his ae71 that he just brought. were both looking at doing 4age conversions later this year!

Their not going to mate! Sorry, but they have been on there 22 or motre years!

When I took mine off I got a hair dryer and melted the glue and they came off ok, but you will have to clean off the goo with prepsol or somethign similar, then give the car a polish cos it will be bright and shiny under the stripes.

I had a few stubborn bits that i got off with a caramel wheel, I wouldnt suggest this though, its tears up the paint as well and I found that there wasn't a whoel lot to polish out.

Sorry for clogging your thread mate, car looks mint though, love the advans!

slidn70

Thanks guys http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

With the pinstrips, i just used a blade and lifted them off. (some paint came with it too! thanks to a dodgey repair job the previous owner did)
Some bits came off smooth, but most of it was a bastard. Used wax and grease remover (prepsol) to get the glue off. It took me ages, but it was worth it/

I'll try and make it to the calder meet up/cruise aswell!

get rid of the lock stops in the steering arms

also the brackets on the LCA that the lock stop contacts

actually ditch the steering arms all together, you'll have to use the KE70 ones as the bolt spacing on the corona ones are further apart (same as AE86 http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif ) and won't bolt to the KE struts

Haha, yeah man. i know, i didnt want to get one but it really is a good thing. it is predictable and imo safer on wet roads. A single spinner sometimes spins both, then lets go and grabs again etc.. etc..

haha yeh i enjoyed the single spinners in the wet lol, you'd be caining along in second spinning it up then you give the wheel a little flick to the right and then its max angle :greenbounce:
Locker FTW :2thumbs:

Yeah i'm fine, thanks. low speed, hit a dirt embankment in the forest and mounted it. The car didnt take the hit well at all! bent the chassis rail and radiator support. front guard and bever panel are stuffed too.

Miss the sound of the 4age already :(
