ive had a few people ask about the light setup, heres a few pics showing how i did it

this pic shows how i held on the the parker light, you have to cut it off the main light assembly.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/134282.jpg

this pic kinda shows how i held on the top of the light assembly, on the lights i have i had to hack away a fair bit at the back, to get the lights further back.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/0/2/26845.jpg

shows how i held on the bottom of the light assembly, just using strips of aluminium.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/134284.jpg

heres another pic of the the setup

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/0/2/26844.jpg
i can get more pics if people want

ohh for the surrounds, i just kept hacking untill they fit on, they turned out ok i think

sure why not, sent ya pm

unfortunately haven't been able to put suspension in yet, still waiting on the coil overs to be rebuilt, hopefully this week sometime it will all happen.

so sick of boat suspension and 155 tyres, ohh and positive camber is such a dumb idea.

also...how slow is a a 4k supposed to be? im pretty sure i must have the slowest possible 4k.....

jono86
20th March 2007, 01:04 PM
hmm i dunno how slow they are sposed to be either, mine feels quicker than my mates 4ac hachi...... we will have to have a 4k race sometime and check it out. oh and positive camber = the crappiest thing ever

ke70dave

ke70dave
1st April 2007, 10:53 PM
cheers for the replys guys

yeah coilovers are set to very high, i havnt done anything in the rear (stock as) and i havent touched my front guards yet.

i attempted to do my own own wheel alignment today, it did not end well.....but i realise what i did wrong, and ill try again tomorrow.

next step is to get some new tyres on the front (they are preeeetty low) and get something for the back.

then attack the front guards to try and get it a lil lower.

just need some money first http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif

ke70dave
15th April 2007, 10:27 PM
gday again fellas, bit of an update on the poo ke70

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/138753.jpg

still running stock as a rock in the rear, really gota get some falcon springs to tighten it up a little.

the back needs to be about 2" lower, and the front about 1". i dont wanna dumb it like crazy, trying to avoid the police as much as possible...

got a bit of a problem with the front, s13front end + over sized wheels = cant go much lower than it is without hitting the guard.

so gonna have to massage those front guards a little. anyone got any ideas on how to make my stupid wheels fit in that will look decent? (read: not using pliers to pull the fold out)

howee
16th April 2007, 08:56 PM
Dave this is turning out so well. Money comes in handy and so doe hands and a head. <3 KE70 Love. <3

Would look better a littler lower though, but a shame about how thats the lowest without hitting the gaurd. O'well just do some work on em and she will turn out great. XD

i know i said leave the chrome strips there but yeah, maybe pinch some of ur dads leccy tape and cover em up just to see what difference it makes? i dunno we'll fiddle next time i come over http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tup.gif

oi we will never speak of that reversing escapade again http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif poor lil 4k never knew what hit it......

what is this "droop" you speak of?

current coilovers are completely rooted JIC items, pretty sure there is no fluid left in them at all, very bouncy in the car, as there is very close to no dampening at all....and they are very very noisy:P bang and crash all the time. handles like a go kart if there are no bumps though!!

there is maximum spring tension on them to try and keep them remotely sturdy cause they are so stuffed.

and also to get the ride height so high

when i have the cash im getting some rebuilt JIC ones, cant wait for that.

bit of an update, i now have 195/50 tyres for the front, and 195/55 tyres for the rear. getting them put on tomorow. so "should" be able to lower it abit more!

big thanks to "riverside" (i didnt even get your real name today) but yeah he met up with me in goldcoast and i bought the tyres of him http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

note: 195/50s are soooooo much smaller than 205,60's!

also my stupid window (the glass part) on the passenger side has come off its rail.....again, currently held in with duct tape (great stuff!) so gota put that back in again....ark stupid window!!!

never a dull moment with ke70;s http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

ke70dave

UPDATE!!

car is now running 195/50's front, 195/55's rear..

sooo much better to drive now, heaps lighter steering. looks heaps good as well, lowered the front abit.

interesting story though, the tyre shop wouldn't accept my car to change the tyres over. because the tyres were slightly outside the guard, apparently they could take the wheels off my car, but refused to put them back on...

so ended up having to go back home, take all the wheels off, chuck them along with the new tyres in the back of bahnuggetts hachi (thanks again). and yes 8 tyres does fit in the back of a hachi!! take wheels/tyres to tyre shop, wait 1.5hrs while they change them over... and then come home and put them all back the car again...

bit of a mission that shouldnt have been that hard, but we got there in the end.

as it stands the tyres are slightly outside the guards now (5mm maybe), no where near as much as before, but still gonna have to massage them out a little.

next step lowering the rear!!

droop as in the coilover wont drop down when the wheel goes thru a pothole or dip or something the whole car will go down and up causing bump steer and shit...but at the same time its awesome when theres no bumps

ke70dave
13th May 2007, 10:08 PM
ahh ok thanks mate

well i dont have any bump steer what so ever, so i assume thats a good thing, if that answers your question about droop http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

i acquired some decent coilovers yesterday (borrowed from bahnugget as mine are in getting rebuilt, big thanks to bahnugget again) and my goodness its awesome fun driving a car with remotely decent suspension. it just steers where you want...no matter how fast your goin (nb: still got 4k, so speed is limited:P)

im still running stock suspension in rear, really have to get those falcon springs, and might look into those "HQ 1-tonner shocks" that are supposedly similar to suzuki seirra shocks but slightly longer?

once upon a time in a land far far away... well.. not far away just.. avoidable (wynnum) there was once a hachi driver named bahnugget. he was a very knowledgable man who probably spelt knowledgeable? wrong maybe twice now.. but anyway..

bahnugget gets home from work, and dave goes "oi greg can i borrow ur stuff"

this is a perfectly normal occurance as dave is what we call a "tight arse hobo" and possesses no parts or tools of his own.

so basically we get some falcon springs, an angle grinder and MY spacers and we get this:

bit of an update!

my rebuilt JIC coilovers are now in, 9kg springs!!!

pretty stiff for street use, but the shocks are extremely stiff, so its pretty nice to drive

my diff decided to drop all of its oil out, so was off the road for a few days

took off backing plate, resealed it, put new oil in, and it still bloody leaks!! so gota try that again

the passenger window fell off its rail AGAIN!!! another job

thats about it so far, im looking for an AE71 pedal box/hydraulic clutch setup as, so if anyone has anything give me a buz

thanks for the kind words majic86, it will be even nicer lookin after the weekend, got a nice shiny suprise for the front end coming up.

not much has changed on the car lateley, i got a whiteline adjustable panhard rod which seems to be doin its job, i also got some commondore wagon short stroke shocks for the rear, which are aesome! stiff enough to not being annoying, and keep the springs nice and captive.

heres the shocks, can see how much shorter they are

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/151990.jpg

im also trying to sort out some softer springs in the front, so if anyone wants to some stiffer springs and they have 8kg ones, im keen to swap

also need to get some better springs for the rear, the falcon springs are shaaaaggeeedd

ohh one last thing, passenger window fell of its rail again, so i put it back on, and took off the winder MMMHHAHAHAHAHAH no more falling off rail now!!

Holden Station Wagin
Brand Kyb
Ext: 490
Comp: Approx 290-300mm
Product Number: 343113

150$/pair from Coventry auto/thompsons, just walk into the shop and give them the product number thats all i did

they seem to be great in the 70 and recommend them. and yer the sierras are way to short unless you pretty much have no springs at all...

well i got the front one on! it was easy as, the brackets went straight in, just had to drill some more holes

the rear one is alot hader as i dont have the brackets, half way through modding the original brackets and stuff

it looks alot shinier in real life, stupid camera

woo!! mission indeed.

to explain, we used the standard metal mount the plastic bumper used.. hacked the crap out of it with an angle grinder.. bolted the chrome bar over the top.

then... shortened, and moved the parts that bolt onto the actual car as you can see.

its MY awful welding job so dont blame dave for that heheh

here's a pic to show how we shortened the mounts.. cut about 55mm out of them, then welded them back together. this was before we moved them.

umm sheets were from crazy clarks/choice junk shop. just called "painters drop sheets". they work ok, but started to destroy themselves after more than 3 days, but only cause it was windy. only like 2$ each.

30th September 2007, 09:10 PM
what was the rust situation like? did you have anything big enough that would require welding in new metal?

ke70dave
30th September 2007, 09:25 PM
umm pretty much no rust at all, there was a little bit in the rear boot sil,i had to cut that out when i got RWC (bout 1yr ago) and yer had to weld a plate in. There was a littl rust hole in the rear wheel arch, but bog was ok in there, there was also another bit just near the boot lock thing on the car, not on the boot itself, on the chassis, it wasnt big enough to warrant bogging or welding, it was mostly hidden under the boot seal (Which is why i missed it).

there was craploads of dents though...never painting a car again that had this many dents....

Off topic..
Please don't call it a drifter unless its.. a drifter, which it's not... its a ke30? presumably with a 3k, and with flipped leaf springs. Its a "project car"

hhah im sorry to let ya no mate but those lines arint coming out with a buff u mite want to give it another go on the bonnet and is there clear on there bonnet or not or is it a matt colour lol,

ke70dave
2nd October 2007, 08:06 PM
hey mate, there is 3 layers of clear coat on the bonnet, and the lines only appeared on the last coat because there was too much humidity so it sprayed on white. and its not a matt colour, its acrylic paint and clear coat, you have to wait 2 weeks after you paint it before you take off the "orange peel" off the paint. it is dull untill then.

ke70dave
2nd October 2007, 08:23 PM
haha its not going any lower than it is, its exactly 120mm at the lowest point (stock exhaust funnily enough)

i was gonna get flared guards before i painted it, but i like the stock look better. so no crazy go nuts wide body action for me.

i do have about 2L of paint left, gonna hit up the engine bay when i put the 4age in :2thumbs:

well folks its been a while!

but things have been happening!

cept for buffing...havnt done much buffing..but ill get around to that one day!

more exciting things been happening.....engines!!!

picked up a 20V bottom end, a 16V head, and almost everything else i need from beerhead a while ago.

its getting a full rebuild shortly (when the machine shop opens up after christmas)

anyway heres some pretty pics

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/161367.jpg
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/161368.jpg
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/161369.jpg

and i think im gonna need another one of these.....

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/161370.jpg

so im going to get:

-acl main and big end bearings
-new rings
-acid dipped and painted block
-overhauled head (its had a bit of porting and polishing, might attack it with a dremel if i get keen)

i will be using the original 20V pistons, and the 16V head, so get some super compression!!

will also get some quad throttle bodys, and if the budget allows some cams...

and im currently looking around as to what ecu i will run it all with, swaying towards megasquiirt at the moment....

anyway will update with more pics when they time comes!

unfortunately no real updates on engine, with uni and lack of work ive been flatout just paying for rediculous petrol prices!

i am however hoping to get it in these holidays, looking forward to the tax return.

one small update i guess is the addition of a bit of safety gear, i think we should all have one of these, got it for my 21st a few weeks ago, i think its in a pretty good spot!

here's how it sits at the moment, looks alright, need to respray that bonnet though...

as for engine...

been putting this together over the last few months or so...

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/177694.jpg

and the latest thing yesterday was the fuel feed for the fuel rail, i didnt have a fitting for it, so had to spend lots of money on speed flow ones....but it does look like its going to do a good job, heres a quick pic anyway...

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/177695.jpg
