We recently completed this 4ag conversion Into my KE70 at my shop.
I wasnt super keen to hurry into the project as i wanted to concentrate on my race car but after much convincing By Brendan ( who also done most of the work http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif ) the job was complete.
The motor is a stock bigport that i got from a local importer, he got the engine about 10-15 years ago it was out of a crashed car and has been sitting in a undiscovered corned of his shed ever since. The engine was filthy and really looked like crap- but the price was good! When i got the motor to my shop i removed the sump and top covers and saw what i can only describe as an absolutelly immaculate engine! This thing must have been almost new when it was crashed. We replace the damaged sump, water pump and thew in a new headgasket, degreased the outside and hit it with a bit of paint.
I had the 40mm webbers and extractors off my race engine lying around so on that went, the exhaust system was a side pipe on the race car so i put an extra section on it to exit out the rear.... The car i have only had for about 2 months its pretty clean with 137000 orig, kms was 4k auto http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/fap.gif so as you can imagine the 4ag has helped it along a little. We swapped the whole crossmember struts and steering rack out of my donor AE86. fitted straight in using KE70 strut tops.
The wheel were on it i've just put some NRCA's (2 deg neg. camber) on it for a little better stance.
The T50 was out of my race car and is a little worse for wear but i will freshen it up in the next couple of weeks. the diff is now a "s" series.
I am really impressed with the performance and driveability of the car. the webbers obvioussly help with the performance- heaps but how smooth they are when i'm just driving normally is testiment that webbers tuned well and balanced correctly will be almost as good as EFI. Most of you probably don't care much about fuel economy but it's great, I can't tell you exactly what it is because i need a AE71 speedo cable!!!

A big thanks must go to Brendan for all his effort that he put into the car and for convincing me that it had to be done.... yes you were right!

check my tech article on the alternator wiring as it may have been a little different to what i told Brendan. the tech article way is definately the 100% spot on, bomb shiz way of wiring it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

i'm using an AE86 speedo cable in mine and it seems to work correctly most of the timeu have to pull all the plastic retaining shit off at the dash end and then tape around the speedo socket on the cluster so the 86 cable will fit snug (you'll see what i mean)

if not i used a manual KE70 cable in my old 20v KE70 conversion it used (obviously) a T50 as well and i never had a drama.

i'll move this to the *E7* section, we need more fat ones in there!!

Induction noise is unreal although it has socks on it now - not that they tone it down much.

fuk yeah jase finally got the build thread up....good to see...this lil thing is so thraoty with the twin sidies the induction noise is porn....this conversion took a little longer than planned as we ran into a few hickups but finally got there and all the trouble we went to was worth it as this thing flies.. so much better than my ae86 when it had the 16v in it

is that dizzy locked timing wise? or have you sussed out some sort of way around it now there is no computer involved?

cheers gilly....as for the timing we have it set at i think its 32 degrees advanced and that little black module next to the coil in one of the above pics retards the timing to normal when car is running havent had any troubles with it works well, the little module isnt expensive either u can just buy it from repco..it is a bosch item, not sure on part number nut im sure jase can help you out with that if ever you want to use this setup as its much more simple to wire than an ecu....

The timing is actually set at 32 degeres. It starts, idles and runs at 32.
I have used the 2 trigger wires out of the std. 4ag dizzy and used them to trigger a standard 4 pin Falcon (xf i think) module. This setup works fine although i does struggle a little on startup when cold but not too bad at all.
I used to have a little control module made by a company in NZ for about $300 (I would still recomend them) it would advance the timing gradually by 17` when engine revs got to 3250 rpm, your ignition curve would go from 15` base timing then by the time it got to 3250rpm it would be at 32`. This setup worked great for the 12 months that i was building my race car it would start and run the car everyday, BUT the first time i took it to the race track i started it up, backed it off the trailer and it stalled, I lifted the bonnett and could smell that horrible burnt electrical smell. So i went to my local Repco bought a 4 pin module, wired it up and had the car running 1 hour later. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif
This module setup ran my car for 18 months and Never gave any problems so i thought i would go with it again. I will probably buy another advance module again but no great hurry.
The reason i use 32degres? Because even with my limited testing and dyno testing on 4ag's in my race car and the Cosworth BDA Atlantic engine ( very similar design to the 4ag) i run in fromula atlantic cars, 32` always seemed to produce the best power figure. I don't know why It just did.

The heat shield is also from Repco ( I used to work at Repco and now own a Repco Repair Centre so i know what they can get) It's a ACL product- All credit must go to Brendan for making it up I handed him the tools and he made it look great http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif


There is no TVIS and the inlet manifold is a Redline brand i would also reccomend the throttle linkage setup made by Lynx, I've seen some ugly setups over the years but this was very simple and very tidy, Both available from Repco.

If you guys are keen i can supply part no's for most of the parts i've used and also put up a wiring diagram for the ignition, not sure where on the forum to post it though??

that little black box you mention, that is very interesting, correct me if im wrong but that would be the perfect solution to running quads on a 16V? eliminate the need to find a source of vacume for the dizzy? or you could just control it with an aftermarket ecu i spose....

this is an awesome little budget project so much fun for the cost and effort put into doing it...has it all....goes very well, handles very well for the mild suspension work it has and all in all just a very tidy clean cut car thats not too over the top... luv it

DriftKE70 no thanks. The carbs are awesome and working spot on. If and when I go EFI on it I will be adapting the 20v quads. can't beat the sound of quads be it webbers or efi!!

Yep, Just went to Repco and bought a very small welsch plug that i tapped straight in.
If and when i want to go Injection i can simply knock this plug out and re-install the injectors.

Cause if you do im gonna have to go read them. They were set about 2 1/2 years ago when they first landed on my race car.

I dont know my self but at a guess I'd say abit of stag sealant wont hurt especially with the revs a carb 4ag would pull and all the vacuum behind them.

For the record - RBC058 is the part no. of the welsch plugs.
Craig 86 i used a product called 3J is it a very universal sealing product and fairll similar to STAG.
There is no way that these plugs would ever pull through but 3J or Stag will help seal them if you happened to knock them in a little crooked.
