View Full Version : I wish I was an AE86.... NOT!

14th June 2007, 10:13 PM
Hey guys, I'm Felix and 19, as some of you may of seen on the latest QLD cruise, I've got a mint stock 'looking' ke70

1983 xx model (no luxury features still in, except velour seats and tacho dash)
full interior/exterior respray aroud 2 years ago in standard white
completly stripped, no carpet, plastics (except uncracked dash), parcel shelf, aircon/heater, stereo, roof lining & interior light.

4-1 Stainless steel extractors (cusco i believe)
2.5" mandrell bent stainless tig welded exhaust off chris o'shannessy's first ae86 racecar with added "road-spec" silencer and stealth exhaust muffler lol (shoots flames on deceleration)
t18 swaybar rear end with shortened RA40 axles and ke70 drums re-drilled to suit
t50 gearbox (aus spec)
14" david craig thermo fan (didnt have a fan when I bought it, allowed for some scary moments in traffic)
poly urathane bushed throughout
1" hilux brake master cylinder
custom 2 core alloy radiator
Nardi steering wheel with boss kit

Now for the motor -

7afe bottom end with a 4age 100kw smallport head (all standard as far as I know)
ecu - only has inputs for water temp, revs and vacuum, it's defiently holding the motor back, and sucks through the juice (260km per full tank)

standard height king springs with koni red shocks on the rear

The car apparently weights a grand total of 820kg

Front and rear coilovers are on hold and will be installed in around 6 weeks
and an aftermarket ecu will proberly be next on the list.

Just bought a house so not much has happened from when I bought it.

If you guys see me cruising around on the coast, give us a wave as it's my daily driver and hoping to get it out around the track towards christmas, I need the practise lol.

Keen to catch up with as many fellow keto drivers as I can.

The pictures are from the ad when I bought it. will take some more this weekend.

18th August 2007, 07:05 PM
just had it all jacked up...

not happy at all

going back to get my money back

my kid who doesnt exist could weld better, and the fact his 'reinforcing' doesnt reinforce anything what so ever...

18th August 2007, 07:08 PM
I hate it when you don't get what you pay for...

18th August 2007, 07:14 PM
yeh, fuck im pissed

next pay day = 15th... cruise is on the 23rd i think?

going to have to get alot of shit done that weekend it seems

and i am chasing some sigma lower control arms... i got too much lock that im hitting inner guard... what a sad world

18th August 2007, 07:27 PM
who did you buy the car of again???? was it a guy on here caled montgomery burns??? coz i got the other rolla he was selling, sory to hear about that aswel man that really sux wang :fap:

18th August 2007, 08:30 PM
What happened?

Coilovers or car?

18th August 2007, 09:01 PM
yeh i bought the car off him

the car is awesome, and he's a great bloke

i bought some ajps coilovers (y) their quality as well, had them installed

because i have rear coilovers, i wanted the rear strut mounts reinforced to compensate for the extra load...

he tack welded 2 5mm bars of steel to the strut mount, looks like a bird shat on it, thats how ba the weld job was, and then charged me for over 6 hours labour (including installing coilovers) Because he 'apparently' prepares race cars here i was thinking he'd know what he's doing and have the suspension set up well etc... (i would of on it myself (installing them) but dont really have time in the next few months to muck around with it and they'd been sitting on my floor for close to a month, i just wanted them in)

so yeh, front rubs, but its not the tyres rubbing (will suss out tomorrow when theirs abit of daylight)

in regards to the rear reinforcing... i could chip it off with a chisel and 1 blow from a hammer, he also sprayed it black and theirs now paint over my shiny coilovers... i paid good money for a good job

anyway, i'll sort this out during the week, just shits me to death, i wanted to drive up to QR tonight

18th August 2007, 09:02 PM
who did you buy the car of again???? was it a guy on here caled montgomery burns??? coz i got the other rolla he was selling, sory to hear about that aswel man that really sux wang :fap:[/b]

that was a mint ke (y)

i was looking at that originally, and then he opened the shed and showed me this one... after driving the 7age, the 4ac didnt appeal as much lol

but yeh, vey clean rig mate

19th August 2007, 06:09 PM
spent the day look at it all and heres a list of dodgy thing from the install

rear coilovers are pinching the brake line

re-inforcing of the rear strut mount i managed to chip off with 1 knock of a hammer.... (and i found a bar welded to the mount which was in the wrong spot, easnt even reinforcing anything at all)

no brake fluid

he didnt even attempt a wheel alignment (one wheel straight, the other around 1/3 lock)

with -3 degrees camber the tyre was nearly punctured on the bracket for the braided brake line

rear coilover rubs against inner guard (near the top)

did all the wheels up with the gun, so tight that even my dad couldnt get them undown, (100kg jumping on the wheel brace), would of been really good if i got a flat on the way home.

oh, and he charged me for it

never fear, my old mans taking it back monday (i've got to work all week) and going to point out these 'flaws' and enquire to how he could let me drive home with it in this state, and politely (or not) ask for my money back.

Futue refrence - do things urself, and if you paying someone, hang around and watch them do it

P.S if your on the gold coast and want to know what shop this was, sent a PM my way

cheers mate, yea i was surprised when you said something was dodgey on the car because mines flauless and i thought you were talking about something sasha had done, didnt no you were talking bout that other wang that cant weld. my mate knows all about dodgey mechanics, they charged him over a grand to fix a steering rack and rear axle, the axle is still fukd and they did the wheel nuts up finger tight wich provided a exciting drive home lol. anyway goodluk with it all man hope you get it all sorted :2thumbs:

21st August 2007, 10:11 AM
picking the car up tonight, they have taken it back and are fabrcating some brackets, relocating brake lines and getting a wheel alignment for me

i'll post up the final verdict tonight, lets hope for the best

Here's hoping they've actually done it properly this time...

21st August 2007, 11:10 PM
Much to my disbelief, it seems the mechanic/fabricator initially mutilated the ke70 steering arms to suit ae86 coilovers...

tomorrow i will take some photos of the reinforcing on rear strut mounts (i havnt seen this yet as its pissing down with rain with over 100km/h winds) as well as now damaged ke70 steering arms...

my dad picked up the car from the shop as i was working all day, and his verdict was that it handles like a gokart (y) Winna!!

21st August 2007, 11:12 PM
wtf lol thats fucked up, good to hear it handles well

22nd August 2007, 07:00 PM
alas more rain and wind

but i took her for a drive and boy its like a go kart and sooo very predictable

loving it (y)

24th August 2007, 02:37 PM
wicked, u will have to give me a lil spin in it when im up next, ill return the favour and u can drive mine once its done, not too long now

3rd September 2007, 10:25 PM
got any new pics of the "go kart" yet man?

3rd September 2007, 10:30 PM
no, but it apparently makes people quake at the knees when they see it

u can wait till the cruise :P only 3 weeks to go

if i've near the car with my camera on a sunny day, i may take a photo or 3

16th September 2007, 12:50 PM
Thinking of taking some photo's today

spend the morning masking up the rims

now I have 2 black ones and 2 red ones (unsure what colour i'll finally go, but make keep it like these for the cruise)

Lost my licence last week, so now i have 3 months to save up and get some stuff done to it

TRD 2way
ECU - either adaptronic or razerback

Need $$, house is sucking it all away

16th September 2007, 01:08 PM

ohh shit aye, I'm not pissing in your pocket mate! I was just trying to come across as professional.

last night I saw this guy built like a brick shithouse, with a head that looked like a sucked mango, fuck me he could talk under wet cement with a mouthful of marbles. His missus had more pricks than a second hand dartboard and was a few wanks short of an orgasm.

So i buggered off to drain my lizzard and then partied hard, it's the most fun you can have with your pants on.

and abit off topic;

licence back in a tad over 3 weeks, its going to be EPIC!!

P.S - schoolies is on atm, so thats also going to be EPIC!!

Cheers for bringing me back down to earth dave, I have no idea what I was thinking, afterall I'm an aussie, not a Pom

P.S She now sits abit lower, AJPS panhard rod ftw!

7th January 2008, 01:59 AM
i'm guessing your tailshaft is hitting your centre bearing mount??

i'm sure your collection of esteemed minds did this but it never hurts to offer advice :P

swap the bolts that hold the 2 halves of the tailshaft around so the bolt head faces the centre bearing mount and the nuts face the diff end. also push the centre bearing mount as far forward as you can (probably did this when installing the whole shaft when your single piece shaft was removed)

i had the same drama with my first and few have had it since, to be honest switching the bolts around normally is enough to fix it on a moderately lowered car but yours might be dumped now so that would create further clearance issues as the shaft is pushed further forward.

7th January 2008, 09:14 AM

exactly what I should have done when i pulled it out yesterday morning, but i for got. as soon as we get felix a T series rear half of the tail shaft, we will put it all in nice and proper. Also gotta do the exhaust gaskets as it leaks now. Blody clean car tho, and dam i love the 7age, gives me ideas for my new engin lol.

7th January 2008, 11:29 AM
Yeah we figured it out in the end, sounded pretty terrible haha, i swear that tailshaft was in and out like 10 times aye.

Official Kyouteki report, fucking mad car :) Torque is excellent and crazy and made my blood pump, def one of the more fun cars i have driven!

ECU will work wonderssssssss.... just gotta pencil it in

7th January 2008, 11:32 AM
lol me and luke,,the boilermakers hahah. did say to do that but NICK said it wouldn't work..all nicks fault hahah

7th January 2008, 10:36 PM
new rear tailshaft will be en route soon (y) Kyouteki

And yes gilly, on reflection we should of done that, but it only hits on significant bumps, therefore i will get from a to b for the next week and new rear half will go in. Had a look at it earlier, seems to of 'shaved' 2mm off the bolt so far (proberly 50 odd bumps) but i am unsure how hard it hits, depends on the size of the bump though. But grinding out the mount and pushing it forward has allowed me to drive it on a normal road for a temp fix.

and yes justin, ecu = win, just need to save abit of coin once im out of the red lol

8th January 2008, 12:07 AM

8th January 2008, 12:14 AM
but really he just wants the rep.......................... and a BJ

10th April 2008, 02:18 PM
G'day Felix, I have a home-made 7age have a couple of quick questions engine wise: What sort of arrangement do you have for the timing belt covers? (My 4age ones won't fit because of the difference in block height) Also, what is your bonnet clearance like with the rwd setup? (Mine was fwd, now being converted to rwd). Cheers, machg

28th June 2008, 07:51 PM
been awhile

i have no drama's with clearance and i believe the 4age timing belt covers worked fine - will look again in the morning

I have the good blinds that still need to go one
2 way with 4.3 ratios in my room

bad news - she doesnt run, tub-a-wear ecu has finally shat itself so a new one will be done ASAP (adaptronic i think)

spend too much money on snowboarding gear and a trip to the snow, but then get a decent pay rise + bonus so I will have ecu in asap and 2way and then skids galore

pictures of my 'awesome' broken ecu shortly

29th June 2008, 07:59 PM
LOL at shitty ecu hahahaha

wanna sell me your 4.3???

i just got one and its noisy as fuck

28th July 2008, 10:53 PM

So about 180hp at the motor? Damn.

yep so if you just get a mag wheel, and bolt it straight to the flywheel you should be able to harness all of it!!

even better, if you get 2 engines, one on each rear wheel, thats that...360hp??

sorry i just don't like "at the engine" specs:P:P

always liked your car felix and good to see you got a nice computer making it all happen :2thumbs:

29th July 2008, 08:28 PM
did ya get fankis wheels? there cheap as

come visit soon, skids shall be the goods

29th July 2008, 09:11 PM
no fanki's wheels as of yet - need time off work for tax return

have to find tune a couple of teething issues and with ant's knowledge should be sorted out by this weekend.

yeh matt, i'll take you for a strap one of these days

Will try to get a dyno reading off ant and see what the power curve is.

got me a few spare sets of skid wheels - so now is about time to finally give them some use.

30th July 2008, 09:52 PM
Fanki's wheels are MINE! epic win

strap aka this weekend? lol
