following on from this thread (http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forum/index.php?showtopic=15945&st=0)

well despite the poll, I bought a ae71 for the grand sum of $150.

first impressions werent good, the body looked banged up, but it just looks bad beause I don't know if it's been washed in the past 12 months hahah, there is only one major bit of rust... that being in the spare tyre well. otherwise there is bits of surface rust... (nothing 20min of elbow grease wont fix). the good bits. it's an ae71 :greenbounce: . the 4AC was rebuilt 1.5years ago (they even gave me the receipt) the t-50 is the best gearbox I've driven. smooth as silk. the clutch is good! will do for a while... grabs like no tomorrow (I couldnt slip it, so yah, certainally decent enough).

firstly I was going to reshell all the goodies, but I figured that we would try and register the car.. (seriously it's only like a days worth of work.) because all the stuff that needs fixing is a steering bush thingy (see techniqual section for my question) and the bits of rust.

the car came with a 5 month old big fuckoff batery, tacho dash (obviously), 1 month rego (meh), and a fresh 4AC all for the grand sum of $150.

they origionally wanted $300... but I drilled them down into the ground... and there we were handing over $150 for the car heh. I <be>drove the car the 125km trip </be>home, ill say it again.. it cost f***ing $150. lol, got bargain?

anyway, first step is for the car to be made roadworthy. then ill make another poll to see what the collective mind of 86dc reckon the next step should be.

now for the all important teaser, the spy shot :)

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/149940.jpg (http://img514.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ae71xl1.jpg)

prop's to the driftke70 answering his phone, I was hesitant to buy it (given the folks reaction, lolz) but I called beall and from another person sayin we'd be dicks not to buy it... logic, and common sense prevailed :) however, our front lawn in brisbane now consists of two ke70's (decent shell, shitbox driveline), flatmates TA22 celica, a celica GT4 and now a ae71. turning into a bloody caryard.

righto

finally got some decent shots of the car up.....

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/150123.jpg
seems the previous owner dropped something on the bonnet, given the dint. atm the grill is held on by chicken wire... and i dont know how to secure it properly for RWC. the body is reasonably straight.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/150124.jpg
a shot of the passenger side. also reasonably straight.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/150125.jpg
a shot of the rear end. the rust has already been cut and patched... i will bog it up, prime and paint it later.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/150126.jpg
a shot of the reasonably mint interior that will stripped to nothing :) no cracks in dash or anything.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/150127.jpg
would this be the cause of some shaky / sometime knocking steering?

aids. how the fuck do i fix this... its the only thing left to fix, otherwise its pretty much ready for rwc

thats basically the car so far guys. anyone that knows how to fix said aids would be really great to tell me how... because as you'd imagine, it needs to be done for the roadworthy cert.

or you can find another set of outer skins from another ke70 and replace them.

well today deleta and i replaced the alternator, fibreglassed the rust on the boot and drivers side wheel arch (the main rust problem) and boged up everything that needed bogging, fix a door, pull apart the front panels for replacement.

then followed two or so trips done his street (the cluch is mighty good for what it is... it can wheelspin second pretty easily), only to return and lock my (only) keys in the car.

i now know how to break into a ae71

total spend on the car: $299 and most likely wont need any more spending for RWC

put those piccies up callum...

today basically we bolted on some straight panels, sprayed some white paint on some bogged places, and degreased the engine... and meh, all complete.

total budget including RWC and 6 months rego is $729.

this includes: RWC certifificate, 6 months rego and CTP, and some straight panels to make it look schmick.

this now leaves quiet a large sum for skid mods.

EDIT: $2000 budget is for general work, consumables and skid parts, rego and insurance isnt included in the $2000.... so to clear things up, budget is now $2500 including rego / insurance and all.

remainng budget is $1600 after insurance is payed.

problem is the bitch i bought it off hasnt handed in the plates (bought it with rego expiring 2 weeks after purchase date, and she took the plates) this now means i have to wait till the plates are handed in before i can register it... fuck

it will be ready for the 86dc cruise though.

9th July 2007, 10:21 PM
finally got the car registered today. did some minor interior strippage.... the boot is completely stripped... no tyre and all...

gearbox is low on oil, and the 4AC had oil so low it barely registered on the dip stick (read: waaay past low) so i topped that up....

took it down to a large unguarded carpark that i know of, did some 'testing' and despite the gearbox low on oil (didnt push it too hard) it slides alright i guess for a completely stock car. note this small sliding on stock ae71 must have the following: skinny arse rooted tyres, a somewhat grippy clutch, and a runup.

within the week ill have some sierra shocks and falcon springs and my MA61's are on their way :)

righto well I bought some MA61's from someone on toymods for a nice price, they also came with some big, baggy rubber, which what looked to belong on some 4x4 (had 70%+ of rubber on them) which basically filled the gaurds, even when the ae71 is still at it's stock height, bwahah. no pics though, to shameful.

anyway, I went to a tyre busters in kunda park, got some second hand tyres fitted. the guy was real helpful and found the perfect set I wanted for $160 for four tyres all up. bridgestone potenza's ftw.

however now that the rubber was decent, atleast 80% tread remaining (see pic below)
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/151177.jpg

I decided to clean up the rims a bit to ensure they looked good on the car (after all the body looks like shit, so I should atleast have something looking good, right?) when the rims arrived, they all had a bit of surface corrosion on them, with this one being the worst (see pic below)
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/151178.jpg

so then I raided the folks kitchen sink, and found some of these (see pic below)
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/151179.jpg

first I pollished up the outer edging and the dish
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/151180.jpg

and after about 15 minutes at each wheel (yes, with only kitchen scourers!) the end result is as follows.....

that would be a negative. I'm thinking of two ways I can do it atm... first attempt will be a longer spanner, if that fails, I shall rig up a pulley system with the brick wall behind the car. if I completely fail ill take it to a service station mechanic and pay him like $20 to undo the bolt with his rattle gun.

just add a note where I was attempting to pull out the front spring... we all decided that cutting it into 3 parts would be easier, seems we were completely wrong in every sense. I think callum got them out in the end of which I have absolutely no idea how.

car looks 500% cleaner and better in pictures... in life the car is covered in dirt, havent had a chance to wash it due to these ghey water restrictions.

btw, gabriel sierra shockies from supershit cost peanuts and seriously my rear end is stiff as f**k. it has falcon springs in the rear.

front, we found the spring seat had a 5" diameter, whereas the falcon springs / rear seats have a 5.5" diameter, we couldnt use the falcon springs on the front because of this reason. so we resorted to using chopped stock springs. it's alright I guess for the timebeing.

righto, 4.3 ratio locker is in the car at the moment, but jeezus christ it took from 11am till 8pm to do it. all because of one bolt.

the bolt in question is one of the 4link rods, the one closest to the drum brake. what was happening, the bolt is like rusted to the metal tubing of the bushing it sits through. hense the only way we could de-tatch the old diff was with an anglegrinder.

this resulted in the bolt still in this 4link rod thingy. and i dont think i can remove it :( so as the car is right now, it sits on the new diff with 3 of the 4 links bolt on, and callum reports the car is stupidly dangerous to drive, which again resulted in a $42 trailer hire, and a good mate with a 4x4 to get it from deleta's to mine again.

the 4link rod thingy in question cannot be removed from the 'car' side, for the same reason for the 'diff side' so im honestly out of ideas as to how i can get it off and bolt up a new one. ONCE THIS ISSUE IS FIXED, THE ROAD TO DORI WILL BEGIN.

ill get some piccies later, as i dont even want to look at the car, peice of shit.

IF THERE IS ANYONE THAT KNOWS WHAT THEIR DOING AND CAN GET THIS FUCKING 4 link ROD OFF ILL SEX YOU. seriously, anyone, ill beer you, anything, cus its gonna be a cunt of a job to get off given my lack of tools around the place.

seek
11th August 2007, 05:14 PM
righto the bitch of a 4link rod (is that what its called? ) its the one closest to the drum, on the passenger side.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/152624.jpg

the only way we could install the new diff was if we cut the brackets off the old diff... which once complete left this:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/152625.jpg

now just note, that this bolt WILL NOT COME OUT. its like sealed itself in there.

once we bolted in the new diff, we obviously couldnt attach this 4link because that fuckin bolt wouldn't come out, so as a temporary mesure, we did this:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/152626.jpg

NOTE: FOR THE SAME REASON, THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE OTHER END TO THE CAR IS ALSO STUCK IN THE SAME MANNER.

needless to say, the car was really bad to drive.... but once i got it to my house (dont ask, im still pissed about it) i devised a plan to get this whole 4link rod off.

by attacking the 'car side' of the rod and angle grinding where the arrows are:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/152627.jpg

this would allow the 4link rod to be completely droped out of the car (otherside is attached to diff with zipties, lolz) and bolt up a new one.

so, what do we think of the plan? will it work? what am i to look out for? is it gonna be more of a pain in the arse angle grinding that 4link rod? am i missing anything?

input would be really great fellas... once this is done im gonna thrash this car so hard, given the amount of frustration its caused.

still havnt hooked up handbrake lines, but i will shortly, just need to find someone with a steap driveway so i can park the car and get under it.

anyways, tried bleeding the brakes three weeks ago, the lines were full of air, but even when we tried bleeding it, it just kept coming. basically the booster was fucked and forcing more air into the lines.

hey guys, havent updated this in a while due to having uni exams and the like, but now that their over, car will get some attention.

over the past few weeks i have bought and collected the following

- PS arms (kyouteki ftw)
- t3 RCA's (again kyouteki)
- 360mm nardi classic (ae86hatchiroku - inifinate)
- HKB boss kit (ajps ftw)
- ra40 rack ends (more ajps ftw)
- ajps lock spacer
- new rack, as mine is boned.

and i also got a cut down bumper for hao

more to the point, i installed the nardi and boss kit today, looks uber;

i have plans to get pretty much the above list in on the car tomorrow friday, so i decided to remove the RHD axle to replace the diff seal.
the axle didnt put up a fight, which i was happy about, but i was both shocked and amazed at what i just removed. :wtf:

to show the extent of the damage in a picture, i put an x,y plot on it (for the people who dont know what it is, (x)= horizontal, ( y) = vertical )

finally, one, that even shows the little ball bearings inside  :wtf:

then after that i installed that cut down bumper, token zip ties were my chosen method of fixture.

note, the light above ^ is my main tool when working on a vehicle in a unit complex. i can assure you its pretty ghey

thanks guys.
