You definitely need an A series bellhousing to bolt to it. The front main bearing is different between T18 and AE86 boxes, some say this can cause issues, others haven't experienced a problem. I'd say give it a go.

EDIT - If it's a 22spline box you'll be fine to re-use the AE86 tailshaft. Only the earlier 20spline output shafts will require a tailshaft swap. This was pointed out by Anthony below.

Myself and Anthony established in another thread that you CAN bolt up a T-18 T50 to a 4A, when using a 4A-T50 bellhousing.

The overall length of all T50s are the same. Does not matter if it has the rear position shifter (TE71-AE86) or front position shifter (TA22-TE27-TE37). The overall length is also the same as the K40 box (at least the KE30 ones).

When putting a 2T/T50 into a KE30 you don't have to change the tailshaft. Same gearbox length, and same tailshaft spline.

Im pretty sure it will fit with an "A" series bell housing (which can be had for about $50).

Some sort of tailshaft witchery may be necessary as well. If your running a t18 taily and diff i cant see any problems though.

Input splines are the same across all T50s (and probably many more knowing Toyota)

You definitely don't need to change to a 3T clutch plate. The T18 has the same input spline as all 4A T50s.

The output spline changes through early and late T18's. Your thread titel stated a 22 spline T18 T50 - this implies its a late one and will indeed work where an 86 T50 was with no changes (apart from perhaps the speedo gear if you're being fussy).

ppl should try not to throw confusing information in that they're not even sure on. It really doesnt help anyone. Javal, you bolted a T50 onto a 3TGTE that had already had a smaller 2T or 3T clutch fitted (a common mod in australia to get 3TGTE's working on the cheap). On this you're basing T18 T50s having larger input splines than other T50s. This simply isnt true and can easily confuse someone trying to find what should be simple information.

Crap, well pointed out Anthony, I hadn't noticed the 22 spline bit.
