Well, I got another little old Toyota..

TE72 and 3T-C goodness, thats right, a T18 if you hadn't guessed already.

Its got extractors, a SAAS steerer (unfortunately, no dish) , and two sets of mags (13x6" westerns on it, 13x6.5" spitfires which look a little more neg...).

Needs a heater core, windscreen, clutch, and front calipers could do with a bit of work...Otherwise, drives great, much better than it looks.

Plans? Roadworthy and rego for now. Maybe sidedraughts and some 8kg springs on T18 S2 struts, foulcan rears a bit later. Perhaps weld diff at that point...

Well updates, lol...

I went for a roadworthy last week, failed on stiff bonnet catch, wiper blades, perished front brake hoses.

Fixed everything over the weekend, so tomorrow its off to have that stuff checked off and fingers crossed will be registered on wednesday.

So far its had a new windscreen, new rotors, new pads, new brake hoses, heater tap courtesy of JHS, but thats it, its pretty sound really and I was surprised how tidy it was underneath when it was jacked up today.

So rego awaits...and then? We shall see...I have some ideas.

Yeah, I want to paint mine black. Actually, I want to satin black ALL my chrome, and I want a series 2 grille with the toyota badge.

Ahh ok, to be honest I hadn't looked too closely at them. Well, I don't particularly mind changing the lights if its necessary, thanks for the advice. Although it would be a shame...as the lights themselves are only 7 years old.

Its registered F#ck Yeah!

Rips a mean one legger!

And I ran into a mate who gave me a single sidedraught manifold for it in a completely random, chance meet up.

Solex-Mikuni love and a new clutch soon

Slight updates...

Looks like I won these Riversides on Yahoo. 13x6.5" +4 , 13x7" -4.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/173463.jpg

But of course...these things don't always turn out as planned so we shall wait and see until they turn up.
If all is well, expect to see them on with a 10mm slip on spacer in front and soil scraping rideheight. If not, look for video of me banging my head on the wall, cursing the Japanese.

I've some S2 struts and King springs situated at Kyouteki Central waiting for me to pick up.

This arvo I removed those farking awful spotlights and fitted a fresh, uncut, unfarked with grille and badge, S1 Love.

Been a good daily, 4 months or so now faultlessly.

Quick digital rendering of where its heading (blacked out wheel centres as I don't know how I'm going to refinish them yet).

Yiew! Got the rims in the post today. Will take some pics tomorrow, no tyres yet of course.

Nice fitment really, might run a 10mm spacer in the front or some corona LCAs. Now to find some 175/60R13s.

i think breno was using a simex and they have a fair few 13s

Cheers for the heads up Dave, will investigate. So far have found Fe deral Formosa FD1s at ~$90 each which seem reasonable...but always open to looking into all the options.

simex became sime, sime then went bye bye, sold their tread moulds to motorway

Tried all the local tyre shops, all we found were Fed eral formoza fd1 in 175/60R13...then as I was about to order them they came back that actually only 185/60R13s were available... Upshot being then that I have bought the 185s. I really would have rathered the 175s but they'll do for now. I personally think it was just tassie slackness but can't be arsed pushing further.

Yokohama shop recommended A539 175/50s but they were big bucks...out of my league.

Anyway, they're on the way, hopefully have springs chopped (temporarily) and wheels on early next week.

Worst of the four, nasty couple of chunks out of the outer but bead is straight and unaffected. Otherwise all in VGC. Three piece but welded, uber light. Mint inside for rims bordering on 30 years old. 13x7" -4 here.

Cool. I'd not seen these wheels before, but they're gonna suit that car to a Tee. Nice 'n period correct, too.

Yeah, probably needs another coil off in the front but we couldn't be arsed dropping the struts out again to do it. I figure it will get coilover sleeves and decent springs and shocks eventually anyway.

That looks unreal on the 13's!

How is the handling?

floody31
9th September 2008, 11:55 PM
Handling isn't bad for what it is... A lot flatter than before we chopped the springs anyway. Its just chopped stock springs and Monroe GT-Gas shocks all round, no short strokes or anything, that will come later. It feels a lot more nimble but I put a lot of that down to going to 185/60R13s from massive 205/65R13 balloon tyres, and the mega light wheels.

Hard to believe its had 90mm rear, 60mm front out to get to that height! :teehee:

I see - I am weighign up whether to go 13's or 14's, and seeing this makes me lean toward 13's!

Looks hot, how far is it off the ground do you think? Like lowest point? It looks well legal in the pics

floody31
11th September 2008, 01:36 AM
Exhaust is 60-70mm off the deck but could be tucked up a fair bit (hangs a lot lower than it needs to IMO), chassis rails are bang on 110mm at the rear and about 110-115mm in the front.

65 profile rubber if going 175-185 wide, or say 205/60s would be better for clearance with 13s, but I'm quite happy as it is.

dropped? doesnt look that different[/b]

90mm lower in the back, 60ish mm lower in the front currently.

If you don't believe me compare where the top of the rims are in relation to the bump strips in the before and after pics. 60 profile, 185 rubber versus massive 205/65 balloons too - tyres are damn near 1.5" shorter on their own.

As noted above still might chop another coil out all round; or just leave it as is and do it right a bit later.

The rear is fine, leave it as is, the front maybe can go down another 30mm. Will give you something nice to look at so you know what you're aiming for when you do it right later. Looks fine as it is though, def leave the rear as is.
