As above, looking for 20v BT ITB stacks & money is tight, + it kills me to buy all this shit again.
These dont come up 2nd hand.

Been looking at T3 & the nice secection that Jubiride have available but the cost a small fortune landed.
I suppose the real answer as to whats the cheapest would be the original plastic ones that come in the standard airbox:hehe:

cheapest I have come across so far..Do you have the dimensions..what is the top and bottom internal diameter,
Is it a direct bolt in to silvertop quads? or needs modifying.

u will need to slot the holes.

the cheapest way to do it is make your own from frp.

ive done it, its pretty easy.

i used a bit of pvc pipe, heat the end on the stove and flared it out. cut the base plate off the stock one, put the tube with the flared end on it in that, bam, 2 piece plug.

performance wise, they wouldnt be really amazing, but they cost fuck all and look cool.

The actual port is a different shape, if that answers the question mate.

yeah if those are the same ones i got, you have to slot the holes a heap. and the trumpets are a smaller inner diameter than the throttle bodies by about 2mm. really doesn't seem to make much of a difference though, certainly not $150 worth of difference. Sometimes i wish mine were a bit prettier but then i realised that if i had pretty ones they would still be covered by the ugly filters :P

How great is the difference between DCOE pattern and 20v throttles? will slotting them to suit only work for blacktops or silvertop too?

st is 45 at the opening, 43 at the butterfly.

bt is 48 at the opening, 45 at the butterfly.

so, really i would only run stacks meant for 45mm dcoe's on st's. i think you actually have to cut it so its an open slot, not a elongated hole.

wouldn't PVC melt at that temperature??

slydar
24th April 2009, 01:49 PM
the stacks are made of fiber glass. you use pvc for the plug. and either way, no, it wouldnt melt i doubt, especially with the intake air being sucked through it.

those stacks lasted at least 5 years and are still in one piece. gilly bought that engine off like the 3rd owner of the car since i had it.

ive heard of people even using pvc pipe for not so temporary IC piping.

You can get fire proof pvc if you look around.

I always thought Blacktop throttles were 50mm opening, at least thats what I measured on mine.

will still need flanges though, but its a good place to get exactly what you want...

Nice one nizlah, would be well worth a group buy??? If they did an optional flange that is,
or cut a plastic one at the bottom, heat it & force a nice trumpet into it, then clip it aroundthe outside, might cause a bit of air turbulance at the bottom but the last T3 ones I had left 1/2mm lip at the bottom of the stack
@ Slydar, they are impressive, id have them no problem

yeah man I might have some appropriate flanges available also if I go with my current intake plan since K&N have ceased production on the filters I want to run... still deciding

could you just cut the standard ones down and heat+flare the top?

i bought some 50mm pvc from bunnings last night aswell as some alloy fly screen that itll use as a filter for large items.

im going to copy slydar and cut the standard ones down, fibreglass the pipe on and then spray them matte black (to match the engine). the fly screen will sit at the bottom of the trumpets where they bolt on.

pics when done

i also noticed whilst i was there that in the plumbing section they have these 50mm pipes made of folded sheet metal which have a folded lip on the end. theyre about 100mm in lenght. they looked like they could work quite well but looked so ghetto i thought id be better off making them out of pvc.

you could use steel egg holders with the center chopped out and welded to a pipe, wish i could have access to the article I wrote that had that in but the admin isn't interested

decided i thought id try my luck making my own filter socks. spoke to a bloke at clark rubber and they stock filter sponge and some glue to suit. he says heaps of people come in to do it.

gonna give it a crack when i get around to making the pvc trumpets.

gotta make sure i buy some spray on filter oil now.

So whats the verdict?

Im leaning towards the ally ones without flanges, i need an intake mani made up anyway so may as well spend a bit extra.

Vance

the way i see it is filter socks cost $100, trumpets cost $150. for $300 ($50 more) i could get some of those individual pod filters. therefore im making everything and if i fail ill buy those individual pods.
